We have gone to Florida for February school vacation for the past several years. We have done Disney, Universal and a couple of cruises. We have always flown Southwest into Orlando from either Providence, Hartford or Manchester. This year we are considering a cruise out of Fort Lauderdale. Is it any less expensive to fly into Ft. Lauderdale than into Orlando? We have usually played with the days, either leaving a few days before vacation, staying a few days after or both, but this year our oldest will be in high school so we really would like to avoid missing any extra days. Thanks for any information! :)

Does anyone have experience with flying into Fort Lauderdale for February school vacation week?

Haven't flown in Feb, but we flew to Ft Lauderdale mid-March this year and it was more expensive than flying to Orlando.

Ft Lauderdale will be higher - maybe much higher - than Orlando. The airport code is fll. What you might do is check the days you are flying but in the months already offered. That will give you an idea.

I about cried when we booked our cruise flights for November 11! They started at $411 RT (stl to fll) and I thought I would wait to see if they went down. They went up to $1400 at one point then with the fall sale came down to $383. I booked as quickly as I could that morning!!!! My outbound after the cruise on Sunday was still $280! The Sat/Sun flights after 11:30 are really high!

What ship are you sailing on? We will be on Allure. :yay:

No experience flying into FLL, but we are flying out of there in October after our WDW/Vero Beach vacation. The SWA nonstop flights out of FLL were about $50 cheaper for us than the ones out of MCO.

We flew there on Southwest from Providence last February. We left the Wednesday before vacation because our cruise left Thursday. I don't remember the exact price we paid but it was comparable to the Orlando flights . I can tell you that Southwest was much less than JetBlue. Also, I booked the day the fares were released and I watched them go up and up. So my advice is to book early and be flexible if you can. I don't like pulling the kids out of school either but the difference in price between leaving on a Saturday vs. a Wednesday night or Thursday (during school vacation weeks) can be astronomical.

My husband and I just flew from Hartford to Ft. Lauderdale last weekend for a getaway to the Keys. I didn't compare it to Orlando at the time becuase we would not have used Orlando for that trip. We are looking at a Carnival cruise out of Ft. Lauderdale for February and would love to fly down, take the cruise and fly home without having too many extra days away. Our other two cruises have both been Carnival out of Orlando and Tampa. Thanks for the information so far :)
