Posted this on the transportation board, but not getting any help.
So I decided to post here as well.

We have tons of miles to use with Spirit, but I cannot decipher their explanations about extra charges and what-not when you fly with miles. It does have me concerned about what the FREE flights will end up costing us.

Has anyone used miles through them to know what extra charges would be incurred?

I have zero experience with this, but really would like to utilize the miles we have accumulated.

If anyone can give me some insight with how the program works, I would REALLY appreciate it.

TIA!!

I have never flown Spirit Airlines, but their mile redemption seems pretty straightforward. Fees are listed here:

Here is a link where you can see mileage requirements for award tickets:

You will also have to pay government taxes and fees, which depend on the destination chosen. You also need to book via phone, which probably incurs an additional charge![/QUOTE]

This is what I am questioning. I know when you fly rewards with SW, you pay the 911 fee of $10 or less per leg.
So is that the fees Spirit is referring to, or will I be paying the actual taxes and the 911 and every other fee that exists?

My guess is, it'll be every tax imaginable, since Spirit charges you for every tiny thing.

Just wondering if the FREE flight is going to be as expensive as one of their low fare flights. If so, it might not be worth the hassle.

I am hoping someone has actually flown on Spirit miles and can tell me what fees were incurred.
