Hi,

we are flying out of Toronto to Orlando next month on Air Canada and I'm wondering if we will clear customs in Toronto or Orlando? I'm hoping it's Toronto - I don't want to have to waste a second once we get there!

I'm not entirely sure.. we're in Edmonton, and there is a US Customs office here, Nov/04 we cleared customs here... so I'm sure it will be the same again when we leave tomorrow to go to Disney again. I would assume you would clear in Toronto! Happy travels!

You clear US customs in Toronto, but leave lots of time, last Wed AM it took 1.5 hours, the line was out the customs hall and all the way to the end of the airport.

Pretty sure you clear customs in Toronto.

Have fun!

Actually we just flew out of Toronto this past week (December 2)and we cleared customs in Orlando. It was weird because we usually clear them here. We flew with Air Transat.

Every time we've flown to the States out of Toronto (or friends/relatives visiting us) we've cleared customs in Toronto.

It could depend on your flight time. We had an early AM flight (6:00) a couple of years ago and we did not clear customs in Toronto. All other trips (different airlines) we cleared customs here.

If you are travelling out of Terminal 2 - you clear customs in TO. Long line ups (customs officers are great but the people directing the lines are not very nice) - just my opinion.

Holy crap, really? we are flying out on the 10am flight this Wed, we are going to be at the airport for 7:00am-ish.

The last two years we have cleared customs in Toronto.
One flight was early afternoon, it took about an hour, the other time it was early morning (6:30am) and the line was long initially bought they opened up other lines to speed up the process.
I found both times security took longer.

All of Air Canada's (and Westjet's) flights leaving TO for the USA, clear US customs in Toronto.

Sometimes, the smaller airlines (especially charter airlines) may not clear customs in Toronto, but in Orlando.

Thank you for mentioning about WestJet flights clearing Customs in Toronto. My family & I are flying them this Saturday for the 1st time & I could not remember reading if you clear Customs in Toronto or Orlando when flying them.

In the past when Canada 3000 was in business we flew them to Orlando & had to clear Customs there, which is no picnic. The way I remember it there was only 2 lines we can go to & it's also bad if there are other people there from other flights other then the one you just got off of. Also it sucks having to pick up your bags once & then checking them again before going into the terminal, so you have to pick them up a 2nd time. I have always wondered why can't we just take them on that little Monorail with us? Something else I don't understand is going threw that extra security screening. I mean we went threw all of that in Toronto, so why keep holding the passengers up? Oh well as long as we don't need to go threw that again, I won't complain about it.

The last time we flew from Winnipeg, we had to clear customs in Orlando, and my husband felt exactly the same way! To the point of arguing about it with one of the guys who works there, and wouldn't you know it, our luggage got lost. We rode the monorail to the other terminal but our luggage took the scenic route! It took us forever to catch up with it. To this day I'm convinced that worker literally sat on our bags while he ate his lunch....!!!

Thanks for the replies everyone!

On the bright side if you can see it the way I do. At least you knew your bags were in the Airport, but they got delayed by some Airport or Customs official since they must be to selfish or something. Logic says if you get them once, chances are they should not be lost. Did you at least complain to someone about what happened?

That happened to DH's luggage the last time we flew out of Toronto. ( air transay and we cleared in Orlando but that was in 2005 last year we flew out of Buf instead) My luggage made it to the second area fine. His was 45 minutes later. When we finally got to the resort and he was unpacking there was a little goverment note inside saying it was opened for screening. I think its his luggage actually that was the problem. Its this hudge duffle bag that you could fit two full size adults in.

We've flown the AC 10:00 am flight the last several times to MCO-try to make it to the airport by 7:00am. We always cleared customs in YYZ and yes the line ups are usually huge but they do keep moving. Make sure you customs docs are complete before you get to the front of the line and you should have no problem.

Thanks, we are heading out tomorrow!

We are having a bit of a crisis. My DD and I have passports, but our friends we are travelling with are using their Driver's license & BC - well guess who couldn't find their BC, last night? :furious:
