If I fly out of Toronto do I need to claim my luggage in Orlando or will the ME tags send it to the resort?

The ME package says international travellers need to claim their luggage in Orlando and then recheck with DME but since I'll be going through customs in Canada will my lugguage go directly to the resort?

TIA!

we have always tagged our bags in Toronto after customs with the yellow tag and they always seem to make it to the resort.

Maybe someone else will have a different anwser though.

ME picked up our luggage for us and was in our room at the Poly in about 2 hours. We flew from T.O. too and were leery about it too, but it worked out great.:)

As long as you pre-clear US customs before you get on the plane you will not have to claim your bags in Orlando because you won't need to clear US customs in Orlando.

It's only people who arrive in Orlando from airports that do not have US customs pre-clearance who have to identify their bags in Orlando while clearing US customs.

Whenever I fly from Toronto to Orlando, I don't see my luggage until that evening at my resort! I love Magical Express! :thumbsup2

Magical Express always used to make us nervous, but after 3 or 4 times of our bags arriving without incident we finally trust it now! :) The only asterix is that if your flight arrives after 10pm in Orlando then you have to pick up your bags yourself at the airport, otherwise they'll "magically" appear in your room!

This is so good to know thank you! I was thinking the same thing as the OP.

As long as you fly out of one of the airports in Canada that have US pre clearance facilities in them then you will be treated like a domestic traveler when you arrive at your destination. The only thing that we can't do is check our bags with them for the return trip you will have to bring them with you when the DME bus picks you up 4 hours before your flight.

This is true, and be very careful! In October we had documents given to us by Disney the day before we were to leave that told us that we could use the airport check in and baggage service in the POP Century lobby. This is still not true if you are ultimately flying to Canada. We checked with them just in case the legalities changed and they in fact did not. Our first connection was Newark but were connecting to Halifax and they didn't seem to be aware of the problem.

How do you `Pre Clear`customs in T.O

I haven`t flown to the US before... do we need to do anything special at the airport

No need to do anythinhg special. All US bound travellers will be directed through US pre-clearance.

after you check in with your airline the first place you will go to before security is US customs, you will have your bags with you. After you leave there, there is a place to drop your checked bags, if you have the yellow DME tags on them this is the last place you will see them before they arrive in your Hotel room. You then proceed to airport security. Once you arrive in MCO you will be in a domestic terminal and can just walk right out to the bus loading area after taking the monorail to the main terminal.

I'll be flying from Winnipeg to TO then Orlando.
Where do I go to get my luggage in TO?
I know I have to go thew customs in TO will I have have to go thew security again?
How long will this take?

I'm flying West Jet for both flights if this make a difference.

Just follow the signs for connecting flights to the US and also double check with your airline they may be able to check your bag all the way threw.

You will be very clearly directed wherever you need to go. They will not let you get lost or skip, just follow the people in front of you, you will all have to do the same thing. There will be staff posted at doorways and you can ask questions if you think you are getting mixed up. After clearing Customs and Immigration, claiming and rechecking your baggage you will follow the signs or ask directions for connecting flights and proceed toward your departing gate. You will likely have to clear security again, not sure about Toronto but that is how it's been at every other airport I've been through.

It seems like a complex thing to do but it happens a lot every day in Toronto so they have it down to a science, they won't let you get lost or in trouble. It's hard to say how long it will take, that depends on what time and day you are travelling and how many other international flights are arriving when you do.

Just a note flying from Winnipeg you will not have to go through customs after you get off the plane as you are flying domestically. Once you land just follow the info and directions for US connections. They should lead you to an area to pick up your bags before going to US customs Pre- clearance, after that you will then re check your bag, if you need to. Just double check with the WestJet agent when you check in for the start of your trip.

Thanks EastYorkDisneyFan and Tinkershelly. That's what I thought.

We only have a two hour and 45 min layover I hope we will have time to grab a bite to eat if not we land in Orlando around 1:00. I'm not a very experienced traveler. Last year we went via Chicago and had a three hour layover that was so long we had time to eat explore and get board, we had no problem finding our way. At least I've been to the TO airport before...mind you that was 15 years ago I even had a box cutter on me for that trip.

you shouldn't have to much of a problem with getting something to eat between flights, however it make take somewhere between 30 minutes to 1 hour to get to the gate area, once you are there in Terminal 3 where WestJet fly's out of there are some quick service places like Timmies and Second Cup, etc.

We have travelled from Montreal direct to Orlando and they've always picked our luggage.

also, We've transferred through Pearson and the only challenge THERE was that we had to pick up our bags, go through customs, then put them back on the conveyor for the flight to Orlando, at which point they picked up our luggage. I think it should be fine. ( I don't think you're considered "International" because you pass customs BEFORE the flight )

Sorry for hijacking this tread..

But we are flying Air Canada out of Vancouver and then transferring in Toronto before going to Orlando. This will be my first time transferring with in Canada we usually do it out of Dallas or some other US city.

So just so I understand more… everyone who flys from Canada to Canada before heading to the US they have to claim their luggage at the transfer airport and then take them through customs? Is that correct or does it depend on the Air Line..

I thought once you check in at the departing airport that your bags just get transferred themselves and you just want to worry about picking them up at your final destination
