Flying out of Tampa instead of MCO

We are going at the end of August. I got flights down from NYC for $89. We wanted to return on 9/7, labor day. I have been checking flights but they have been very high. Today I went on jetblue and got a return flight for $109 for one of us and $149 for four of us. The flight leaves from Tampa though. We have season passes for seaworld/acquatica, and have 2 days at the end of our vacation, so I will have my husband pick up a rental at MCO the day we check out the Polynesian and get a rental that we will use for 3 days and then return it to Tampa airport. Has anyone ever done this? Are the rentals usually expensive? Thanks for any help.

It usually is prudent to check and confirm a rental car booking before you book flights out of different airports. Simply because the one way drop off fees might be such, you end up spending more than had you just flown out the original airport to begin with.

With that said. I assume your dates are the 5-7. How many persons are in your party? How much luggage do you think you will have and what is your budget for a car rental?

There are a lot of rental companies closer to the Poly (including National/Alamo at a couple places on site). Make sure you check picking up at those locations also.

I do agree with Yellowjj, rentals may be expensive, especially labor day weekend. Another option is to check on prices to pick up when you arrive. It MIGHT be cheaper to have a car for your entire stay instead of just last couple days.

I just booked with thrifty for the 3 days for $125. It was for a "you pick it car" which is for a ford focus or larger. I know that is not that big. We are 2 adults and 5 children (12,12,6). We will make it fit for that price. lol We will also be able to go to Aquatica for 2 days since we have annual passes, so it will be
worth it.

My family of 4 wouldn't fit in a Ford Focus with all of our luggage.
When we rent a car in FL we usually get a Taurus or Impala, something that size. Sometimes we still end up with a carry on in the back seat and I'm not a heavy packer.

Thrify and Dollar are the same company and there is a Dollar rental car location at the Wyndham across from DTD. I am picking up a mid-size SUV next week for a 5 day rental for $129. Beats have to go all the way back to the airport and pay the additional airport fee's that are added to rental originating at any airport.

I'd be surprised if more than a total of 5 seat belts in a focus, or Taurus.

not familiar with thrifty's policies but most of the rental car companies state how many passengers & pieces of luggage each vehicle will hold.

Sorry, meant 3 children. Yes, I know a focus will be small but really just using it to go to airport. I will check out price of rental out of Wyndham. Thanks for the advice.

I checked Wyndham and it was cheaper. Thanks. We are staying at the Polynesian. I plan on sending my husband to go pick up the car. I guess he will have to go to the TTC and take a bus
to DTD? Is that the easiest way?
