Anyone on the board flown out of Rochester to Orlando?

We've done the Toronto-Buffalo drive to get cheaper fares, and it looks like Rochester would add another 45/60 minutes onto the drive, so...

Anyone with experiences to share? Good/bad things about Rochester - the nearby hotels (in case we need to overnight) or the airport itself?

I quite liked the Buffalo airport - is Rochester similarly sized and as modern?

TIA, Jeff

Rochester Airport is a clean, modern airport....a little smaller than Buffalo's would be my guess. It's located on the western side of town which makes it easier if you're coming from Canada.

Plenty of airport hotels nearby....any google search will bring up
the many chains that are represented there.

My only question would be "Why use Roch Arpt when you live in Canada?"

Taxes!! on flights from Canada are absolutely outrageous.

The best answer is the obvious one: $$...

Flights for 4 out of Toronto typically go for $1700 and up. Same basic set of flights for four out of Buffalo could be had for $1000 (even after the rotten CAD-USD exchange rate!).

We've booked our flights for Christmas to MCO out of DTW on Spirit and the cost was Cdn$1400 - including first class of the return flight. We booked flights from YYZ to Regina next month, and the cost was $2500 for flights of roughly the same length. That's why you fly out of an American city if you have the opportunity.

I think Rochester is a bit closer to an hour and 15-20 minutes past Buffalo. (Buffalo to Syracuse is about 2 1/2 hours, and Rochester is pretty close to right in the middle)

Wait until the ferry gets up and running....then the trip will be a lot shorter. I would drive the 3 hours to save the money!

I had friends who flew out of Rochester last year ... 3 adults and 2 children ... total cost was $1000 Cdn ::yes:: We like to drive, but if I could get 4 flights for $200/PP I would definitely consider it. And as for the drive, we're used to doing the 20+ hours to disney ... a few extra hours is really neither here nor there to us.

Another friend flew out of Flint at March break, but I don't remember her cost. I know there are a few Londoners here on this board that have flown from Flint and quite liked the experience and the price !

For those of you who may use Rochester as an option to fly out of there is now the ferry from TO to Rochester as a way to get there. Check it out The Breeze

My work mate just took the Ferry to Toronto yesterday and had a GREAT time! She said customs went quite smoothly.

It was $40 for the SUV and her two kids. There was a children's play area, and she said there was a movie theatre as well as a restaurant.

So I think you could be to the Rochester Airport almost as fast as Buffalo, if the timing is right for your flights.

I think we'll be heading to Toronto on the ferry in the early fall just to give it a try.
