I was just checking the prices of flights for our May 14 - 23 trip. The prices for flights are $300.00 for a decent departure and return time. I booked by flights today because I assume price will only go up.

My bank account is crying right now --- $600.00+ short. I am going to have to get a second job just to support my Disney addiction....Hello, my name is Lillian and I am addicted to Walt Disney world and anything related to Disney.

All together now......Hi! Lillian welcome to the support group!

Where is the "airfare" wars when you need them?

No surprise there. With the price of jet fuel climbing as rapidly as gas for our cars, it is no wonder. Airlines are a business, costs go up, so do your tickets.

Oh I feel your pain.
We are leaving June 4th & I can't find a decent airline fare.

Right now it is $342, flying on NWA...straight through, with the exact times we would like.
I just can not bite it yet over $300, so I am still waiting.

Once it goes under $300, I will buy the tickets. Especially since it is the exact times we would want.
If I am paying that much, we are getting EXACTLY what we want ;)

There was a story on the news the other night indicating that airfares were going UP due to the continuning rise in fuel.

It actually mentioned both NW and Airtran as the leaders in raising the prices.

The airlines just don't seem to be having "fare wars" right now.

I also saw another news story this morning indicating summer vacation bookings are already going well which does not lead to a need for sales.

I too think it's the fuel. I have a conference in July that I am supposed to go to in Chicago. The fares had been hovering around $200 for a while and I just couldn't bring myself to buy it for that much. This week, Friday I think, it jumped to $221.

I know the MSP to Chicago routes are mostly business so they don't discount them much, but I paid like $165 last year and was hoping for at least sub $200. But with gas prices being what they are, I understand that the airlines have to pay for it just like we do for our cars.

It stinks, but you know they have to pay for the gas, the fees to be at an airport, the employees. Sometimes when I look at all the little things, it's a wonder that some of the prices I have paid that they are making any money at all.

At least MSP is in a market where you CAN get a discount! I live in central Wisconsin and believe me, there are no deals here! I've been watching airfares for our upcoming May trip and as good as I can get is $283. Will probably ticket this wk as with fuel going up, so will the cost of the tickets.

Hi,

Airfares outta MPSp are awful even before the fuel hike!

However, I just checked suncountry yesterday for a May l7 departure and roundtirp 9 days and the fare was $220. Not bad. I did not book cuz our plans are not firm yet.

check it out.

herc.

Also, if there are other airports within an hour or two of your origin, check the prices out of those airports. For example, flying out of Grand Rapids (through Detroit) to Tampa saved me about $80 vs. flying out of Detroit. Fares out of Rochester, Buffalo, and Albany are always cheaper than fares out of Syracuse.

If it's a tradeoff between driving an extra hour or 2 to get to an airport, vs paying an extra $50 or more, I generally will take the extra time. (on the other hand, I'm usually travelling by myself, and almost never in a hurry to get someplace)
