Flying into Tampa -- rental car questions

I'll spare you the long story -- but for family visit reasons, we are flying into Tampa (instead of MCO) in January. I'm expert at Alamo at MCO -- but no idea about TPA...and I can see from airport map that Alamo is shuttle bus (which doesn't thrill me). I'm not tied to Alamo, just used to it.

Any input on rental cars at Tampa airport is appreciated. TIA!

We fly in/out of Tampa frequently and always rent a car. We've used Alamo & National offsite at Tampa many times and their shuttles always run very frequently and we've never had any trouble with it. But my 2 children are old enough to help with the luggage and we can manage transferring our luggage ourselves just fine. I know the shuttles are more challenging with smaller children and strollers, etc.

We've also rented from Thrifty onsite at Tampa and that was also fine.

If costs are roughly equal, we still prefer Alamo or National so that we can choose our own vehicle. We also likek Alamo or National because we can easily add spouse as an additional driver for free either with our membership or with a contract code. If an onsite place is much less, then we'll go with that.

My family and I have rented from their Avis location before and we have never had any problems with them before.

Word of warning, the Hertz location at TPA is considered only second worst to SEA, so I would avoid them unless you are booking a Prestige or possibly Fun collection car and are a Gold Member (Note: They do not have a Gold board either).
