Flying from Edmonton to San Juan?

Hi there,

Our next cruise is not until January 27, 2019 but because it sails out of San Juan, Puerto Rico I am looking at typical flights to see what we should expect in terms of schedule and price. So far, it looks like flights are horrible (15+ hours) and expensive ($1,200). It looks like the schedule (while not shorter, but more manageable) is better out of Toronto and slightly less expensive, although it means booking two flights independently of one another, so might be less convenient.

Does anyone have any experience flying to San Juan from cities outside of Toronto? What was your strategy for finding a good schedule and reasonable price? Any advice is welcome :)

Thanks!

Hi Brandyleeann!

I would suggest looking at flights out of Calgary. Yes - flights from western Canada to Puerto Rico are not great. Terrible scheduling and routing on the most part. I live in Calgary and we sailed out of San Juan in 2017. The best routing and best price was with American Airlines. We flew via Dallas. We arrived a couple of days before the cruise and then we flew home the day we disembarked the cruise. It was the only airline that had a schedule that would get us home the same day we got off the ship and definitely the least expensive option.

I can't recall how much our flights were, but definitely over $1000. It's not cheap by any means and really hard to judge what flights will be a year from now. I would avoid flying through Toronto at all costs. That airport is a nightmare and if you nave to overnight at all that will cost you the difference for sure. It's worth the drive down to Calgary!! Hope this helps!!

Cheers and happy planning!!
