Passengers also urged not to bring wrapped gifts

ASSOCIATED PRESS

WASHINGTON — Transportation officials are advising travelers against bringing wrapped presents onto airplanes or packing their film in checked bags during the holiday season. The Transportation Security Administration is implementing a passenger education program to help move people efficiently through crowded airports during the holidays. Passengers may be asked to unwrap their presents during screening, and travelers should carry all film in their carry-on baggage, as equipment used to screen checked baggage will damage undeveloped film.

Yup I hadnt thought of that. I have 4 wrapped presents (card games, candy) that I was going to give to DS on the plane. I may have them unwrap them as we are waiting for the plane to take off!

No, Barb -- you'd have to unwrap them before you go through security, not when you get to the gate.

OK, so I guess now wrapping paper is lead-lined?

"Wait, wait! Our million-dollar x-ray system can see through the bag, but what IS that gaudy wrapper preventing us from seeing what's inside the box?" ;)

I guess they're trying to say that if you're stopped and searched by hand, the stuff maybe/will be unwrapped.
