My 9yr son and I will be flying from Mass to FL in Oct by ourselves. MIL and husband will be driving down a few days ahead of us to MILs winter home in Melbourne. How do I keep my flying anxiety under control so as not to scare my son? Yes, I know I'm the grown-up here.

I would recommend a trip to your local library and reading some books about fear of flying.
There are a lot of online programs available but they all have a fee. I found some good books and read them and felt much better. Also my doctor has prescribed Xanex in a small dosage that helps but doesn't leave me groggy or impaired.
Talk to people about fear of flying it will help.
You are always safer in an airplane than your car, (which you probably get in everyday?)
Remember knowledge is power and what you learn about avionics and flying can help immensely.
If you have any other questions let me know.:p

I suggest you make your anxiety known to the flight staff immediately. My prediction is that they will not only keep an eye on you, but as time permits interact and distract your child so you can breath and relax.

Yeah---you are the adult. And we believe our children need to see our imperfections and weaknesses as well as our strengths.

Definitely talk to your doctor. He/she will prescribe something for you. Also the suggestion about letting the flight attendants know is a good one.

I too have a son that age that was scared to fly last yr and my dr prescribed something but i didn't have to use it, I bought him a laptop kids computer at a toy store , to take on the plane and it keep him busy and he was fine. I wish you and him the best!
