Fly on Friday the 13th?? Yep, we`ll turn superstition into 23 nights of fun!! A Sept/Oct 2024 TR

Finally caught up!!!

The room at the Saphire looks amazing! I wish I would have remembered about that little spot in Jurassic area to have a sit down and a beverage.

There are a few things we didn't get to do - with the timing of Milton coming in :rolleyes2 We had a great time - but there were definitely things we missed out on thinking we would get to do them on another day.

Amazing pictures as always.

We had a snooze, but not for long, then we got showered and changed and headed the very short walk down to Strong Water Bar where we were meeting M & A for our early dinner.

Both women were waiting outside for us and headed in where we got our table and Fernando came over to greet us which is always lovely, he knows the two ladies well too and we have a lovely chat before we start perusing the menu, although I`m never sure why as we know the menu by heart, but you never know, they do change it up regularly, removing some dishes and adding new one which is lovely for us guests.

I opted for a spicy margarita but in a tall glass so it wasn`t very strong, Tom went for the New American which is just lovely!!

i-xh85WnP-X2.jpg

M had the Fountain of Youth and A had the Espresso Martini one of which I like, but I never got the taste for anything coffee flavoured, except the occasional milky coffee of course, but folks do love these types of drinks.

i-fhTzkX5-X2.jpg

I think we must be a bad influence, but whenever we have dinner with anyone, it takes ages to order food as we are so busy chatting but we do order a couple of dishes to start off with, M chooses the Rainbow Ceviche which is Corvina with aji amarillo, shrimp with salsa verde, salmon belly with soy, lime juice, ginger and garlic, we had never tried this one and it was lovely. Apologies for the slightly blurry pictures but we were all hungry and ready to eat.

i-QTvx4PL-X2.jpg

i-K9TnXJn-X2.jpg

Some of the other dishes we ordered were the Tuna Tiradito and the Grio which is one of their best dishes, highly recommended and it is marinated and fried pork chunks, sweet plantains, pikliz with a spicy chimichurri dip which is just beautiful.

i-Sgx7KQ6-X2.jpg

We were chatting so much as we always do when we get together and enjoying the beautiful food, we were thinking of looking at the menu for another dish to share, when the lovely Chef Carlos brought out one of his specials which was medium rare ribeye with a chimichurri sauce, avocado salad and two truffle potato croquettes and it was a stunning dish to share with friends.

i-V8nC7Bz-S.gif

i-t6WLcrv-X2.jpg

And the food kept coming......❤️

Rum upside down pineapple cake with vegan "chicharron" and comes with a lovely cinnamon ice cream.

i-vCt737V-X2.jpg

The other dessert they brought for us was the Banana Bread Pudding which is accompanied by rum n raisin ice cream, I have to admit this is not a dessert I would eat as I don`t like banana dishes and I loathe rum n raisin ice cream, but the other 3 did enjoy this dish and good to see them enjoy the dessert.

i-9HPz4Xx-X2.jpg

And up next was one of the nicest parts of the day. I had gone to the bathroom and came back to the table, a lady appeared at the table and said she wanted to say hi to us as she knew us from the TR`s which was so lovely, and she was such a lovely lady to chat to. Her family were sitting close by and we got to meet them too and they were so nice, so of course we had to get a picture.

Here we are with @snoopboop and we have the ok to post the picture of us together.

i-MhPJGZS-X2.jpg

We could have spent a lot of time with snoopboop and family, such nice people and we were so glad they had come over to say hello. We have met so many lovely people over the years because of the TR`s and we`re always so happy when folks do come say hi, especially when they are as nice as snoopboop and family!!!

We finished our meal with M & A and headed out but of course stopped off to say bye to snoopboop and family who were still eating dinner we didn`t want to just leave without a quick hug.

After thanking M & A for dinner which had been lovely, we popped back to the room and freshened up before heading to Citywalk for the evening, it had been such a lovely day so far.

Carole, meeting you and Tom was one of the absolute highlights of our entire trip. I hope to run in to you again on a future trip someday!

Thanks Carole for a wonderful trip report and taking my mind off things for a while. I can see myself in some of the places you mention, and I love the food reviews. I think Adventura is kind of ugly, but I like the tropical vibe so it's RPR for me.

You are so welcome Ruth, I think having a distraction is a good thing for you right now🥰

Yes, I don`t think Aventura is pretty at all, doesn`t appeal to us, but many folks like it, something for everyone is a good thing. Yes, tropical vibes are good for us too.

It is lovely to look back at all the places we enjoyed, glad you do too 😊

Milton certainly affected a few folks trips, it is a shame to miss some stuff out due to weather, but you managed a lot too.

That Sapphire Suite is just lovely, it has to be our favourite room between both hotels.

Glad you like the pics and glad you`re caught up!!

Awww....what a lovely thing to say, we did enjoy meeting you all too ☺️

We would love to meet up with you all if you are ever there at the same time again, I`m quite sure we would have a nice time chatting a few hours away :wave2:

It's me! I am the one person who uses shower caps
There can’t only be one:p, I use them when deep conditioning my hair. Often, @ the resorts when taking one of my numerous showers every day due to the humidity. If i washed my un-natural blonde hair a couple X a day, I’d probably be bald lol
I do wish the parks opened later in September on a more regular basis because they look completely different in the dark and riding the rides are different too, your perceptions vary so much and I do think they are even more scary in the dark.
Absolutely! What’s odd is even when they are open in the dark, the parks seem to clear out quickly then vs other parks in the area.
I like the locker system here, some don`t but it works fine for most people.
it’s been a recurrent theme to complain about all the lockers @ Universal from the rash of ex-disney people morphing over.

I understand they aren’t accustomed to using them, well, Tron has them. I don’t understand complaining about something that is designed for safety and is inflexible.

I`m not sure some folks do a lot of research before a trip and many don`t seem to know about HHN and park closing times.
It’s mind boggling

he had organised their office yearly golf day yesterday where advisors and clients get together for a wonderful charity and he had done most of the organising this year and it had been a huge success.
Good for him! Does Kyle golf?
Bar17 for us is not as good as it should be
every time we stop by have high hopes. Nope, for me it’s management issue as to training of staff. Can’t say they are overworked, rarely is bar full; however, the staff always looks a bit put out…as though they waiting to punch out of shift.
Tuna Tiradito
Looks sushi grade, lovely
specials which was medium rare ribeye
Yum, they should put that on the regular menu for the more meat & ‘tater eaters among the tourists.

Un-natural blonde...er, what`s that.....:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Yep, good idea too with the treatments, love a good conditioning treatment!

Tom mentioned he was surprised so many folks were leaving as it was getting darker, the parks are so lovely all lit up.

I never thought about Disney folks that might not be used to lockers to be the ones complaining, makes sense, again.....maybe reading up on info beforehand might stop the complaints.

Yes, the staff at Bar17 seems quite disinterested and it`s a common complaint, they`ve only been busy once when we were up and they struggled to cope for sure. I think it hasn`t taken off as they`d hoped initially as a "venue". At least they filled in that huge empty open space with some tables, it does look a little better than it did completely empty as it was for so long.

No, Kyle doesn`t golf, not yet anyway, but I think he may in the future.

That Tuna Tiradito is lush!!!!

The line for the boat wasn`t too bad tonight, however from Sapphire it can be longer at times as folks from Aventura and CBay regularly use the boats too, but tonight we got straight on the boat and were soon winging our way to Citywalk.

i-Gj4sDGw-X2.jpg

Our first stop tonight in our mini -mini bar crawl was to Fat Tuesday in the centre of Citywalk and our first thought tonight was....where is everyone??

Citywalk seemed deserted for a Saturday night during HHN season, we remembered nights when you could barely move around here on most weekends and especially on a HHN night.

I do forget which drinks we ordered, but they have a set list of drinks and they are very generic massed produced drinks, but they are very, very nice!!! And of course you have to get the extra toot on top!!

i-nL7577P-X2.jpg

Although you do have to be careful with these drinks to avoid the dreaded brain freeze!!

1732202178722.gif

That is me!!!!

Brain freeze from a drink, agony for a few moments.....go straight in for the next sip 🥴

i-PPWZL9n-X2.jpg

Sitting on those seats overlooking the lagoon is lovely, it is so warm and very peaceful tonight, we only had a few folks around us tonight it is usually much busier than this and even the lady running the bar commented to us it was going to be a slow night. We did enjoy sitting in the warm tonight with some fruity drinks watching the world go by, albeit not that many folks!!

They had placed some Halloween themed props around the central area and they had been repurposed from HHN in 2022 from one of the scare zones and they looked good!

Tom was being very slow taking this picture tonight and I did eventually realise why as the guy on the right of me managed to creep up beside me and I had no idea they were there, which is not hard to do to me as I can be oblivious to who is around me a times, other times I don`t miss a trick.

They were very nice and really brought a little bit of Halloween to life in Citywalk.

i-RDd9hQ6-X2.jpg

Of course the thing on a lot of theme park fans minds right now is the opening of Epic Universe and it is very exciting to hear all about it and the hotels, especially Helios for us so we did plan tonight to go in and have a look although we had seen the plans and layout before we got here and it is going to be spectacular for sure.

The preview centre is in what used to be the Universal store at one point and is right in the centre of everything, so you can`t really miss it and it is a good display that shows just how incredible this new chapter in the life of UOR is going to be.

i-B2ZgfNW-X2.jpg

i-Lmqx4xh-X2.jpg

i-LZ74FQx-X2.jpg

Being honest there are only two areas of the park we`re really interested in and those are the classic monsters and Potter, that`s what interests us the most and although I`m sure it is all going to be incredible and done to the highest standard the other two areas we don`t know much about. Wrong generations maybe.

But the hotel for us is something we can`t wait to see, we know so many people that are going to be working there and they are thrilled to be part of the newest and most anticipated hotel in Orlando. Ok that`s just my opinion that`s the most anticipated of course 😉

Although this coaster does very much appeal to us!!!

i-PN25BMr-X2.jpg

One place to visit for us is the Dead Coconut Club which is located upstairs in Citywalk and they retheme this club for different seasons not just for HHN but Christmas and Mardi Gras too and they do it very well each time.

i-2BfhdBN-X2.jpg

A couple of the barmen we have known for a long time usually work there but we missed them tonight, not that you get the chance to chat much as it is really loud, but the atmosphere is fabulous and again, despite it not being too busy tonight it was nice for half an hour or so.

I have no clue where the cocktail pictures are from here, we both got a different one and they were nice enough, I think I`ll stick to regular drinks from now on and not the specials for Halloween, they are far too sweet for Tom and I.

i-c4p72WR-X2.jpg

The theme runs through it is very well done, but I do think it`s missing something this year, not quite sure what though. We find a seat and enjoy the drinks but the music is incredible and adds a lot to the atmosphere.

But it is loud!

1732205634004.jpeg

i-8rVmJg5-X2.jpg

It really is worth a visit whatever the season they are celebrating, they carry the theme well and it is genuinely a fun place to be.

i-cCZCS5K-X2.jpg

i-X5rQQD7-X2.jpg

Citywalk up here tonight was even quieter and everywhere seemed to be not as busy as they usually are.

We thought about sitting at one of the bars in Cowfish, but we had a wander round and enjoyed walking in the heat when it wasn`t too busy and right about now there was a tiny little breeze appeared which was most welcome as it was still in the 90`s tonight according to our bartender.

i-F3BKL2b-X2.jpg

i-DKDr7rS-X2.jpg

We were dreadful tonight getting pictures, although Antojitos food doesn`t appeal to us, the cocktails always look so good and they have a little truck outside just for drinks, so we order two, I go for a spicy mango margarita and Tom has a plain old margarita.

Both were lovely and quite strong, I don`t think I could drink many of these and then go do something useful!!

i-xvDGrwJ-X2.jpg

Tonight we wanted to go and try the bar in Big Fire, again, the food hadn`t impressed us at all here but we had been told by friends at the hotel we`d enjoy the bar as they had some very good barmen, so yep, we wanted to try it.

i-W7zggVB-X2.jpg

It was fairly busy but we got the last two seats at the end of the bar and we did indeed have a very good bartender.

Tom asked for an Old Fashioned and they did it the proper way with smoking the glass and making it a little bit of a show as he made it, I did take another picture as he was smoking it, but far too blurry to post...I`m going to blame the last margarita!!! Nah, just me!

i-DLwgBxP-X2.jpg

Tom declared it the best Old Fashioned he`d had in Florida, quite an accolade indeed.

i-GwtC7hm-X2.jpg

Sticking with Tequila, I asked for a spicy margarita, he said unfortunately he didn`t have any fresh jalapenos to make it for me but asked if I wanted to try his variation that he makes up, he said if I didn`t like it, he`d make me something else, so of course I said I`d try it.

It was beautiful.

And made with something as simple as Tabasco, I`d never have thought to use that instead of fresh jalapenos at a push. I was definitely going to try this once we were home as it was indeed very drinkable 🥰
and we always have Tabasco at home.

i-C2hg9Dt-X2.jpg

There were two other couples we spoke to and they were both lovely and nice to pass the time with. One couple Tommy and Jade were from San Diego and Elise and her husband, I forget his name, always feel bad doing that, but they were from Cocoa Beach area and her parents ran a restaurant there. If we were in the area we would certainly look them up.

It was one of those nice evenings that was a lot of fun, we always enjoy chatting to folks and sitting at the bar is ideal for that, we had a good few laughs and it`s always lovely finding out where folks are from and why they`re here.

I had one more spicy margarita, Tom said he was fine, but I was enjoying this rather strange but lovely margarita.

After that we headed out and decided to get the boat back to Sapphire, we sometimes walk and cut through RP but we looked and there was barely a line for the boats which at this time of night can be truly horrendous especially for Sapphire, but we waited a few moments before getting seated in one and headed home appreciating this lovely little breeze that was taking the edge off the heat tonight.

Back in the suite, we weren`t as tired as we thought we`d be, I had some water while Tom found something to watch on tv, it might have been Two and a half Men, a good show to fall back on, and we hadn`t seen it in ages, so passed an hour watching that tonight while chatting about how lovely a day we had 😍

SUNDAY SEPTEMBER 22ND

We slept well again, those beds are so comfortable, Tom said I was out before he said goodnight, doesn`t surprise me, and my first job when we woke up was to check the half marathon website to see how Kyle had done and he had excelled with his time, so sent him a quick email congratulating him on another fabulous result, he replied saying they had all really enjoyed running it today which is good to hear!!

Once we were showered and dressed we walked over to RP and the Club Lounge for breakfast, it was a little busier now than it had been on previous mornings, but still so much quieter than we thought it would be, nice though to have it so quiet.

We chat to the staff for a little time this morning but head down to the boats as we are going to the Studios for the morning. One thing everyone seems to ask is, which park is your favourite and I always think it`s IOA because we love VC and FJ a lot, but we seem to spend a lot more time in the Studios on most trips when we look back on what we do, but either way both parks are places we love spending time in and enjoy so much in both parks.

I think we had a little wait for the boat this morning, and heck on a deck, it was hot and would peak again around 96F which was bliss for us, but right now there was no breeze, a little breeze would be nice. I`m being greedy here aren`t I!!!

We sat on the boat and I popped my hat on as the sun was blazing in as we sat and waited then we moved off and I saw a lady suddenly looking at me, she did smile and say It`s Carole, the blogger isn`t it....I said yes, and she was so lovely in her comments about the TR`s and she asked after Kyle saying she felt she felt she had almost watch him grow up on the TR`s, which I suppose is very true, many folks have watched him since he was around 14 or 15 years old in these TR`s.

It was very lovely to have the brief chat with her and I believe (I didn`t write it down as I said I`d remember) her name was Angel so a big hello to Angel if you`re still reading :wave2:

The boat is a lovely way to get to Citywalk and it does take you right to the centre where walking to either park is very easy with a few moments to IOA or Studios.

I do like the new entry system to the parks, facial recognition works well, but goodness knows what causes some folks to have an issue getting through, maybe it`s their ticket for some reason but this is where they really should have or would be nice if they had an AP only entrance, there seems to be less issues with AP than there is with tickets. But, for us no issues and straight through.

It was such a beautiful day and the colours in the park really pop on days like this and everything just looks so vivid which is stunning.

We do go on Minion ride as the line for EP was very short, so we got on more or less with no wait at all. It is a fun little ride, we both preferred it with the 3D glasses but it`s worth doing and of course you get to dance with a Minion afterwards which is always nice. The newest Minion attraction was a one and done for us, so we walk back slightly and head the opposite direction we usually go.

The store that was once the wonderful Lucy Tribute Store followed by the Hello Kitty emporium was changing again and it was going to be a Wicked Tribute Store.

Wicked is my favourite show ever, The Wizard of Oz is one of my favourite movies from childhood and I was worried Wicked would let that down, but it didn`t, I adore the show and have seen it five times, four on Broadway and once in London. But, I did wonder how this was going to enhance the brand other than merchandise opportunities.

I have now seen a video walkthrough of the tribute store and it is bland and doesn`t truly show how wonderful Wicked is, but I`m sure I will buy some of the merchandise all the same......:rolleyes1

The movie however, I am not sure about. I saw a clip of Ariana Grande and I thought it was all CGI initially, I never saw one flicker of emotion on her face at all through the clip and it did not look real to me, but I checked and it supposed to be real!! So, the jury is out for me right now on it as I never thought it would be a good idea to try and capture something so wonderful on film.

i-BJBtwfC-X2.jpg

This is what it looks like today, certainly impressive on the exterior

(Picture from Orlando Informer)

1732285479987.jpeg

We took a LOT of pictures today, probably more than we would normally take on a typical day but everything looked so good in the sunshine today and it is a beautiful park.

The Brown Derby is a very small store and the only time I ever go in is when we are there for the Holidays as they have a very nice tree in there, but aside from that, I`ve never found any reason to go in, I always thought it looked like it should sell ice cream or desserts of some kind.

i-mvVzDKP-X2.jpg

i-g5Nn5kG-X2.jpg

With HHN being on at this time of year, during the day they do leave out props that are just too big to remove daily and the ones that are left exposed and not offensive in any way. The ones that may have something gruesome or slightly offensive will be covered up so no worries for those who are bringing little ones who ask every year if it`s "safe" to bring them to Universal. I`m not sure what they think they`re going to see in reality.

i-PRzbwMr-X2.jpg

Schwab`s Pharmacy is a cute little ice cream/shake store that for years we never bothered to go into, but it serves lovely ice creams including a Dole Whip which is nice, but not very creamy, it is however very refreshing on a very hot day. They also do a very lovely salted caramel ice cream which is delicious!

i-mKGzKTL-X2.jpg

I did like the exterior of their smaller Tribute store, it was very much like a theatre from the 1980`s and again, attention to detail is incredible here in both parks.

i-Z7XvL5G-X2.jpg

We were loving wandering down this street, it is always so pretty and vibrant too and we didn`t stop to get any character pictures today, The Simpsons, Scooby and gang and Marilyn were all out, but it was lovely to just saunter and take our time which is our favourite way to do the parks on any given day.

Pantages Theatre is the perfect place to host the Horror Make up Show and this is a long running show that has evolved a little over the years, but it is basically the same show as it is very good, very funny and well worth a visit to see it.

The schedule is listed outside so it has all the times on there and it is on many times a day, fantastic show and the hosts have all been doing it for such a long time, one of them is Summer Aiello who is the wife of Mike Aiello who was involved with HHN for many years, she is probably my favourite of the presenters along with Robyn Kelly who had quite a career in Hollywood before she came here.

But, no matter who is presenting, it is always a fun show with some very strange audience participation, but always done with fun!!

i-WxdJbj7-X2.jpg

i-3ZH8L3n-X2.jpg

I adore this building, it is beautiful and does evoke that old Hollywood theme for this area. It`s a building used as a meeting point for tours and such but I have always felt they missed a trick and it should be a very high end restaurant....not likely to ever happen of course as a theme park might not be the best place for such an option, but I like the idea.

i-VTBp5R8-X2.jpg

But, for me, I could see both the building above and below as part of a beautiful food experience here.

i-Kc6dLRn-X2.jpg

We wander through Central Park area and again we wonder why the HHN decorations left out are not as inspiring as they were on previous years, this was one scare zone that always impressed, but again hearing from everyone it was a let down again. We never regretted not doing HHN this trip. This area calls out for lit pumpkins in the trees, it always looked so amazing in the dark.

Doc Brown was close to the train and was having very detailed conversations to one guest who didn`t look very enamoured to meet him, it was quite funny to watch these guests not really know who the character was supposed to be, I guess not everyone had seen Back to the Future!!!

i-5FvRn4Q-X2.jpg

i-G6cfszQ-X2.jpg

We are the folks who never knew much about The Simpsons, not one episode had we ever watched, Kyle was not a child who was interested in watching it either, so it might not be our favourite part of the park and we won`t miss it when it is finally replaced, whenever that may be of course.

I think we know most of the character names of course and the general story line of Homer and where he works, doughnuts of course too but although we enjoy the area we have no clue who Jebediah Springfield is except to imagine he might have discovered the town! Who knows!!

I do know the Lard lad ice cream dessert is beautiful!!! Haven`t had one for a few years, but will get one another time to share between us.

i-xK3FTc3-X2.jpg

i-XSNPv8h-X2.jpg

Duff Beer is also not for me, I`m not a big beer drinker anyway, but neither Tom or I really enjoyed when we tried it. The bar is a nice place to sit and enjoy some shade and another type of drink other than beer.

And there is a tiny little store to the side of it too, of course, I don`t think we`ve ever bought something from there in all our visits!!

i-grm6PNk-X2.jpg

More of today to come!

I think Universal is just so busy for HHN that at this point, they are just calling it in.

Being Floridians, we know so many people that go every year and the general consensus was, meh.

Congratulations to Kyle on another fantastic race! 🎉

I know I would walk through the Wicked experience and purchase something, even though I’ve never seen the show 🤣 I have heard that the soundtrack is really good. I guess if you just keep Ariana singing, maybe you don’t notice her acting ability 😉

Do you have a favorite show in the Parks?

but I have always felt they missed a trick and it should be a very high end restaurant....not likely to ever happen of course as a theme park might not be the best place for such an option, but I like the idea.
This! Love the theming. Years ago enjoyed a SpongeBob themed breakfast there, in the back area of the restaurant which they don’t use for HHN.
Duff Beer is also not for me
Yuck, reminiscent of Budweiser to me. No thanks. Sure seems to be popular though

Love the mini bar crawl review :)

Love the City Walk pub crawl!!!!!!!!

Amazing pictures!

Thanks, glad you enjoy them.....well we did plan a larger bar crawl doing the hotels, but never managed it, I think we may be over those days, especially in the heat!!

So true, we have never heard so many long term HHN visitors including TM`s who work there complain and share their disappointment in the event now.

Very sad for those of us who have enjoyed it for so many years when it was a spectacular event for the most part.

Congratulations to Kyle on another fantastic race! 🎉

Do you have a favorite show in the Parks?

Thanks, he is an amazing runner, in 3 years he has gone from not running at all to absolutley smashing his own records in whatever type of race he runs. You`ll know that dedication as mr worfie would have been the same, it`s definitely a passion.

The soundtrack is incredible, me singing alongside it, not so much!!! Is she even an actress?? I don`t know much about her to be honest.

Hmmm. Favourite show, I think my automatic response is Horror Make up Show, but Bourne is something else isn`t it, love the Blues Bros too, so many good shows around.

Are you a Bourne fan? I don`t miss T2 at all, I used to use it as a snooze time when we spent longer days in the park, a mid afternoon show was an ideal nap time, Kyle always marvelled I could sleep through it at all, but I did!

This! Love the theming. Years ago enjoyed a SpongeBob themed breakfast there, in the back area of the restaurant which they don’t use for HHN.

Yuck, reminiscent of Budweiser to me. No thanks. Sure seems to be popular though

Love the mini bar crawl review :)

I didn`t realise there were themed dinners in there at one point. Didn`t they do a Mexican something or other for a few years there, never bothered to go see it. But, I imagine an old Hollywood styled restaurant harking back to the glamour days, but I guess in the centre of a theme park it wouldn`t work, but can you imagine wearing a vintage gown with elaborate hair to a swish dinner with elegant cocktails....yep, would work for me!

Yep, I thought it was gross, but agree, you see a lot of folks drinking it and seemingly enjoying it.
