Fluff: Ladies: Haircolor question (inspired by the haircut thread)

I have colored my hair off and on for a few years now. My hair is a light/medium reddish brown, and I really don't like the red in it. I color my hair between a light and medium ash brown to tone down the red and then add blonde highlights.

Doesn't help - there is still red in it in the sunlight, but atleast it isn't as dramatic. I can thank my father for the red in my hair - my mom has dark brown hair, so I got a mixture of both.

Like I say, I've always been a blonde, it just use to be natural! ;) I think my hair naturally is a light to medium brown color. It got much darker after having ds. I dye it to a champagne blonde, kind of a medium blonde. I have done highlights too, but I'm not very good at it. I love the two tone look, but need help doing it! Someday I'd love to go red, I just need to get the guts up to do it! My bro is a redhead, the stinker!

Been coloring my hair since age 14. Have been all the way from snow white to a bluish black and everything in between. My skin is very white so I look good with vibrant red hair. Thing is, reds are very hard to hold. Even permanent shades of red change after each shampoo. Sometimes that's NOT a good thing! Finally got frustrated 2 years ago and bought 7 wigs. Love 'em!!! The new kind are so light weight you really do forget you're wearing them. I even had one on when I rode "test trac" at EPCOT and it never budged. Run your fingers through it and you're set. Rain doesn't faze me any more either!

I've been coloring my hair for years. I think my natural color is a light golden brown, but I'm not sure. :teeth:
The last time I had my hair colored I did it light brown, and added lt. ash blonde highlights. I really need to get my hair highlighted again soon.

I'm like a lot of you--I don't know what my real color is anymore! LOL

I've been coloring it myself for about 15-20 years now. I had light blonde hair as a kid, but as I got older it got duller. My mom had always dyed her hair to cover her gray, so I started to color it to jazz it up. I used the same brand--Nice & Easy--and same color she did--Medium Ash blonde. When I first did it no-one noticed. Then I got a little daring and went to Light Ash blonde and that got some comments, but usually the day or so after I did it. So I switched to a light golden blonde, and that was really different, it was blonde with gold undertones that were almost red. I love that look. But I have always wanted red hair. One of my sisters & one of my brothers have red hair as do 2 nephews. So about a year ago, I started experimenting with auburn hair dyes. The first time, someone (a guy who always tries to be funny) asked me if my brain rusted! So I've gone back to the blondes, but I think I'll try the auburns again.

I've always done it myself---I like doing it now. Too cheap to spend the money for some one else to do it. (If there was a way to cut my own hair I'd do it) Years ago, the chemical smell was almost overwhelming, but now the smell is bearable and almost nice! I switch back and forth between brands, but I tend to use Clariol products. They tend to go on sale alot, and there are tons of coupons for them.

My natural colour is a dark brown/chestnut colour. I dyed/bleached it a lot as a teenager (streaks of white, brown, orange, blonde, pink and purple all at once at one point). At 21 I discovered my first grey hairs, and I've been colouring it off and on ever since. Moreso for the last few years.

I'm too chicken and dislike roots too much to do a permanent colour, so I use the Clairol Natural Instincts temp colours. Funny thing is, the more you use them, the more permanent they become. I've been using the Malaysian Cherry colour for a while, thinking of switching to something along the lines of the Cinnamon.

My natural hair color is light mousy brown. I highlight it with two different colors: dark, reddish blonde and pale blonde. I love the way it looks and I get many, many compliments. I will always color my hair as I HATE the mousy brown color. I think you become mousy brown when you are a natrual blonde as a child and then it turns brown. That's what happened to me anyway.

Sounds too familiar. I used every brand of store color and a bunch from Sally Beauty Supply and could not get any to really "hold." They all start a nice shade of bright red and mutate day by day into something drabber. Some faded to a passable reddish shade but some were pretty icky. That was the one good thing about being a bleach blonde, it stayed bleached. The dark roots were another story though.

I find that when you do your hair a lighter red it fades faster than when it's darker. I get a really pretty red when I use Loreal Colorspa in "Redwood." It's the washout dye but it seems to stay longer.

Well, I'm 13 and have been dying my hair for the past few years. LAst summer I had bleached blonde tips, later dyed pink. (I have naturaly DARK brown hair) Then I dyed it a lighter brown, and got some somewhat bright red highlights. Since they fade reallllly fast, I kept getting them re done. (WHOOO! YAY FOR FRIED HAIR!) This summer I was supposed to have blue hair, but things didn't work out. So I got a new SHORT cut, and I have blonde/platinum highlight dealy.

My natural color is medium brown with red highlights.

I've had grey hairs since I was 18 and it really got grey after I had chemo in '90. Since then I have colored my hair at home (DH actually colors it for me).

I usually use a light golden brown as I've heard that as you get older you should go a little lighter. I've been using that color for about 7 years now. Before that it was medium golden brown.

wow, my hairstylists only charge $24 for a color/cut and they increased their prices by $1... I think my natural color is light brown, but it's been dark red, eggplant, roxy red, golden brown, ash blonde. For the summer I'm 10NB, which is a little blonder than my regular 1/2 8NB & 1/2 10NB (which=9NB for the winter).

The haircut thread got me thinking, who out there colors their hair and what color? I've been doing my for sixteen years. The first fourteen were blonde, including bleached white, including two-tone with brunette. The last two were copper red, somtimes with a blonde streak, sometimes with dark on the bottom. I just got daring and dyed it all a very dark burgundy (think black with purpely highlights). I like that so much that I'm seriously considering black. My natural color is dark brown. I now, for the first time since I've been dyeing my hair, have light roots instead of dark roots.

Bottom line, what's your natural color and what are you using on it? BTW, I do it at home. I've never been to a salon.

TIA.

I am a natural brunette. Every summer I get highlights, I don't get them to light though because I don't like to get touch ups too often. My hair grows reall fast. I get mine professionally done at a salon.
