I posted this on the budget board because I am saving on my copays and going to the county flu clinic. There is a clinic exactely 10 days before we leave for Disney. We have never had side effects (flulike symptoms) after receiving the flu shot. So I chance it or do I get the shots when we get back? What's your opinion?
thanks

I would absolutely get it before - think of all the germs you'll be exposed to on your trip. It will be great to have the extra protection.

I vote to get it now so your immunity can build up before you get there! Hurry!

We had our shots just 7 days before. All that happen to us was sore arms.

Just got mine and I felt a little ill/ very tired the day after, but that was it. I think I even remember reading in the info sheet that they gave us that any side effects usually only last 1-2 days. So even if you were to feel a little yucky afterwards, you should be totally fine by ten days later. I would definately get it. Have fun on your trip!

I get one every year and the only side effect is a sore arm. I would MOST DEFINITELY get it before getting on a plane or vacationing in Disney World. I try not to think of the germs everywhere! :rotfl:

I had a Dr.'s appointment the day before leaving for our last-week's trip (where I would have had insurance pay for the shot) but I figured I needed to build immunity so I went to Wal-Mart 10 days before and paid $25 for my shot.
Airplanes are flying cans of germs!

Definitely recommend getting your flu shot prior to visiting WDW.

I've never had any reaction to a flu shot.

Do we have a "knock on wood" smilie?

*LOL*

If you have your receipt, you should call your insurance company. Most will reimburse you for the cost of the shot. You just have to mail them a form. It is much cheaper for them than paying for an office visit. I did this a couple years ago, when my doctors office ran out.

I agree. Get it before and have the protection :).

I second, third, fourth, . . . . . . . . definitely get it before. :goodvibes
When my DH and got ours a couple days ago we were told it is the same formula as last year. So, if you got it last year and had no effects then you'll be fine. Neither of us had anything other than sore spots the next day. :thumbsup2

It takes about two weeks for the shot to be effective so you are cutting it pretty close. Side effects should be VERY minimal ad gone way before 10 days!

I SECOND this- exactly what our DRS told us...SOOOO, i got mine last week- 25 days before we leave since it takes 14 days to take effect....NO SIDE EFFECTS except an Achy arm for 2 days..........

I would get it. You can not get the flu from the vaccine!

We never get the shot. My 7yo asked what we get instead. My 18yo answered "the flu". :rotfl2: We usually only get it every couple if years and since no one in our extended family has immune system issues it works for us. Have fun on your trip!

NOOOOOO

Every person I have talked to has had a reaction and ended up getting sick!

I'd wait and take some Lysol wipes with you.

And I say BS! to those of you who say you can't get the flu from the vaccine. It can sure make you feel pretty blasted crappy. And I'm talking fever, chills, aches etc...

Um, guess everyone in my family has super awesome immune systems then cause me, my husband, and 2 sons (10 and 4) all got the shot this year (and last year and year before) and none of us had side effects other than the arm being a little sore the next day.
