Bare with me here....

We have 31 days till we fly out to disneyworld. We have saved and saved for this trip and are excited beyond all get out, as
1. We haven't been since 2005
2. Our 7yr old has never been to disney world and he was MADE FOR DISNEY. He's so animated, such a character himself, wants to go so bad. (he doesn't know we're going, we want to surprise him) Our 14yr old has been there twice. Both DH and I our disney freaks and proud of it.

But I am going to stress myself out worrying about the flu. People in my area (wisconsin/ill. border) are dropping like flies. We have all gotten our flu shots , but that doesnt mean squat. I am going to drive myself crazy. It's so stupid and irrational to worry about something you have no control over.

Our vacation in 2005, our oldest DS came down w/5th's disease the night we flew out. (bright red rash on cheeks and fever) Got there and the first day we woke up, he was so stiff, we had to carry him into a warm bath to loosen him up, and give him lots of tylenol. He rode a stroller for the first few hours in the park... but by noon, he was good to go, running around like crazy... but every morning, we had to do that. (Dr. said this was all fine)

So.

1. Have you ever gotten sick? And had to cancel your disney vacation?

2. Ever gotten sick DURING your vacation?

3. Haven't booked yet, (doing so soon) but does travel ins. even cover if the family comes down w/the flu? What is the best type of travel ins. ?

4. I would never want to spread the flu to other people, but do the airlines even let you fly? If you're somewhat sick? (meaning if you're there and need to get back home?)

Tell me I'm crazy and a loon for worrying over something so out of my control.

Laugh and point at me....

Tell me that's what I get when I plan on taking a trip during flu season. (but hey, it's also low crowd season.)

But tell me your stories....

Er... ok then. LOL... guess I'm the only paranoid flu freak out there. :wave2:

I think you'll need to ask whomever is offering your travel insurance what they cover. And, call your airline about their illness policy.

If you've all had your flu shots, I'd be sure to have hand sanitizer to make sure you're knocking out those germs frequently, but I wouldn't personally worry beyond that. I have three kids and I don't want the flu either, but at some point you have to stop worrying about it and just have fun.

Did your family vaccinate? Ours did, got a little sick in December but not enough to ruin our trip.

We told our pediatrician that we were going to WDW in February and she had this sheer look of terror on her face due to the Flu season. So, I don't think that the OP is that crazy. We leave WDW 2/11, send me an IM and I'll try to convey the flu status.

DW and I are probably going to be on the crazier side when it comes to germ prep, prevention. Think it's well deserved this season and especially with DS0 (5mo).

Yikes! Our trip isn't until 1/14 but I got a cold a couple weeks ago and it occurred to me that the same could happen next year and mess up my trip. You're right to say that worrying about it isn't good...in fact it was stress that pushed me over the edge and made me sick. So let's stay calm and just do our best to avoid it.

I think the plan is for me to Lysol everything at home and work and while out in public, use hand wipes obsessively and at work, wash hands a lot (and sneakily Lysol the copier buttons, door handles, etc. when co-workers aren't looking)...also try to avoid stress, get a lot of sleep, no hand-shaking and keep the medicine cabinet fully stocked with Zicam, Emergen-C, vitamins and cold medicine. And try to avoid people who are sick. I'm probably going to be really antisocial next January so as to not expose myself to so many cooties. Sorry for sounding like a germ-avoiding freak, but I have waited too long and saved too carefully to have our trip messed up at the last minute.

Great that you got shots! We do too! I don't know what to tell you about the flu...I'd ask your doctor, but when I felt that cold coming on I stayed home for two solid days resting, guzzling hot tea, juice, water, popping Zicam, zinc tablets, etc., napping, eating chicken soup...and it pretty much went away. Then I went to work and it came back but I tried.
