Finally! :cool1:

Walt Disney Imagineering has added a new audio composition that’s exclusive to our attraction, which will play along with varying sound effects while Guests make their flight through space.
The new “Starry-O-Phonic Sound” compliments last year’s refurbishment which added storyline elements, new lighting and “darkening” effects, updated décor, accessibility features, interactive queue elements and a ride photo system.

FAQs:

Q: Why wasn’t on-board audio or a musical soundtrack added like the one at Disneyland?

A: The Imagineers view all of our Space Mountain attractions individually and want each one to maintain its own distinct identity. The Walt Disney World attraction was the original Space Mountain, opening in January 1975, so as the Imagineers refreshed the attraction, the overall goal was to keep it the classic “Space Mountain” experience.

Q: Why wasn’t the audio installed when the rest of the work was done in the fall?

A: By postponing the audio enhancement, we were able to reopen the attraction earlier and then were able to accomplish the installation of the audio aspects at night.

Translation: We had SO MANY guest complaints when we didn't add music like they did at Disneyland, we threw some speakers up on the walls to placate the masses.

Sounds (get it :lmao:) good to me -
I look foward to trying it out in Feb. :thumbsup2

DS will be THRILLED. I will be looking for volunteers to ride it with him, because even AFTER the refurb it is too rough for me. He can ride by himself, but it's not as much fun. DH will only ride once or twice, then he has had enough.

I was surprised when I rode it last time just how rough it is. I don't remember it being that rough. I'm like your DH, I'll ride it once or twice but that's it.

I FINALLY figured out why it bothers me. There is nothing behind your head! The back of the seat only comes up to the base of my neck, so my head gets bounced around for the duration of the ride. By the time the ride is over I feel like I have a concussion.

That's great and all... but it's too hard for me to get in and out of. :( I bang my knees, etc.

You need to toughen up those knees -
I have exercises I could recommend :rolleyes1

We're so use to the one at DL, when we first went on the one at WDW, I turned around and said, did the music break down? Then by the time we got to the end of the ride, we had been whipped and banged around so much, I turned back around to Steven and was like, "What the hell was that!?" We weren't prepared. LOL

Dirty.....

I agree...way too rough. I guess I'll need to ride it again to see/hear the new sounds, but, I'm not really looking forward to it.

I should have warned you. ;)
Everest and RnRC have seats that come up high enough that you can brace your head and neck, so those are fine. Space Mtn. has been moved to my "MAYBE once a trip" list, along with Dinosaur. I can't believe it took me like 11 trips to figure out why Space is so much worse than the other coasters.

What's funny is that even though I don't like the need to hold onto my own head, I get FAR less sick on space mtn and I think it's because the vibration of my head against the headrest on Everest and RnRC do me in.

Space Mtn is on my "maybe once a trip" list, but, RnRC is on my "maybe someday if I have a child who would only be able to ride if I went with them" list and Everest is on my "not allowed to repeat" list.

We love RnRC. I was afraid it would hurt my back, so it took me a long time to get brave enough to ride it. But it doesn't hurt my back at all! :thumbsup2

I love Everest, too, but I can only handle it twice in one day. The day I rode 3 times it made my head feel weird.

DS LOVES all of them. The only ride he refuses to ride is ToT. He really, REALLY doesn't like it. Once in awhile if we are with a big group of friends he will agree to ride once, but then he is finished. This year we never did ride - DS didn't want to and DH and I just didn't bother.

You will be shocked at the things you will ride because your child wants to. Like Big Thunder, over and over. Or tea cups. It isn't always the thrill rides that will get you! :rotfl2: But at least DS is old enough now that we can tell him to go ride and we'll wait for him at the end.

If we are ever in MK at the same time as you when we are all there in June he will be more than welcome to sit with us :thumbsup2

The thing is, I get sick enough that even my kid won't want me to. After my one ride on Everest I was incapable of moving or speaking for about 3 hours. (I did at least stagger upright out of RnRC.)

I can get through Big Thunder twice, but, after that, I'd be puking -- no fun for anyone!
