It's being reported that the South Florida Water Management District recently approved a permit for the construction of "Disney's Contemporary Suites Vacation Club Resort." The permit supposedly includes diagrams of the C-shaped building whose images leaked out on the net several months ago. Looks like the Contemporary DVC may indeed be coming!.

Application states that it's a DVC property, 16 stories, pool area looks like it has a spiraling slide into the main pool, and a kiddie pool, and a Mickey-shaped hot tub (guessing), looks like there are other items at the opposite end of the pool from the slide (maybe waterspouts?). Mostly it's full of geotech and stormwater management info.

So - 'Buh-bye' North Wing - 'Hello' big round DVC resort - with a great view of the MK from a number of the rooms.

I imagine that great view might well boost interest in DVC membership.

I wasn't going to post this info, because I realize I will get plenty of " oh yea, right, a CM told you , they always lie and mix things up, yadda, yadda, blah, blah, etc." But now that this is out, I will comment on what I heard yesterday at the CR. We spoke to several CMs that told us to check on line at the Reedy Creek site and you will see proof of the new DVC building on the old North wing site. They claimed that they are now waiting for the asbestos to be removed and then the building comes down. We went outside to check it out, and you could see that the whole wing was empty, there were NO furnishings or drapes left, a lot of the doors were open, and you could see into the barren rooms. Looks like it's coming down to me.:sad2:
OK, I'm standing by waiting for the flames:furious: from those that never will admit to anything until an announcement is made.

The tennis courts have been torn out and the racquet club building is demolished. This is in line with the first stage of construction outlined in the permits which is builing the retention pond there.

The sucker is coming down.

Clearly there's enough out there on this one to make this very reasonable. I personally think that, barring some unforseen change, its going to happen. Its just a matter of timing.

Besides, this is a News and RUMORS board, so there shouldn't be any problem with posting a RUMOR. You're right though... some do forget that.

Just a few weeks ago, I was fairly certain the Contemporary had successfully dodged a bullet at the last minute, and the north wing was safe. Now the situatuion is again unclear, but the evidence appears to have swung back to demolition. There are better locations (and far, far better designs) for a Contemporary and/or monorail DVC than this ill-concieved curved tower.

One thing is certain: If - or when - demolition actually begins, there will be no denying the project any longer. That would give DVC three confirmed new resorts (including Disneyland), even if Disney fails to formally announce the project. While the Contemporary development will not be ready for sale for a while, it will be obvious to current and furture DVC members that it is coming.

We'll know one way or the other soon.

a 16 story project will take time to complete. taking into consideration the existing buildings which need to be removed. With AKV next, they will have time to start this and possibly get a DVC in DL before this may become a reality. I would expect at some point California will be an option for ownership. I hear they promote DVC very heavily there. Possibly a few years down the road, CRV will be selling.

If you look at the various drawings it looks like half the building will have Magic Kingdom with parking lot views. Of the other half two thirds will have pool/bay lake views and the other third the depressing Contemporary view. Foot print looks a lot smaller than the existing building (towards the end there is a photo of the existing building with the drawing super-imposed on top of it).

Seems like they will extend the Contemporary's concrete jungle style to the new structure. Convenient for Disney, why worry about trees when you don't have to?

I requested some DVC material the other day and received a call from a CM yesterday. I asked if the contemporary rumor was true and he told me no, but did say the Animal Kingdom rumor was true. So as of now Disney is still denying this rumor.

It's not Disney that is denying it, just some CMs .

I wasn't saying its not going to happen or isn't in progress, I was just passing on what was told to me...and yes CMs do sometimes lie.
