Florida man molests 4 teen girls while swimming at Disney World's Typhoon Lagoon

Absolutely sickening. Hopefully the courts will do all children that are coming to the area a favor by throwing the book at him. ugh. people disgust me!

that cinches it, DD 15 is not going anywhere alone except maybe the quiet pool

Not to point out the obvious, but this kind of thing could happen anywhere at any kind of pool... I mean, the guy walking buy and touching the girl would happen in a restaurant or mall. I'm glad the girls did the right thing and reported it, as well as the witness who saw him report it as well. I hope he is convicted and serves a very long sentence.

Going to Disney is like going to a big city. Considering the numbers, people die there, people get born there, there are ex-cons and criminals there. Disney does a great job of making people feel as if they are in a safe little bubble, but life intrudes.

I think people believe a bit too much in the sense of perfect safety there, but really, you have to have the same sense of self protection that you would in a large city, at a concert or state fair or anywhere there is a lot of people.

This could easily have happened at an offsite pool (and probably does, every week, as sickening as that is). I give Disney credit that where there's a problem, they step in quickly and deal with it. That's all they can do.

Pervy guys are a fact of life for every woman, young or not so young. We can teach them to speak up and be assertive, because this sort of thing happens too much. When you're at a place with crowds, your chances of it happening increase accordingly.

Well said Travelgrrl! I don't know why people think they need to take less precautions while traveling at WDW than they would if traveling elsewhere...bad people abound no matter where you go.

I'm sorry but yes I know the law states this is "molesting" but come on when you think molesting its not a guy touching a girls butt.

Yes its sickening and wrong and this guy deserves jail time.

I will definitely keep an eye out on my kids.

Are you going to stand right next to her every time she swims? Because you just being nearby wouldn't have prevented this.

Its interesting that right now there is another thread up where the OP is considering letting a whole group of kids, some young as eight tour the parks unsupervised. So far unanimously the PPs have said, sure go for it so long as a responsible teen is with him/her.
Sigh. In the Disney bubble no bad can come to you I guess. My kids sure won't be park touring at eight or anything close to it.

I guess I'm curious here. When an adult stranger is touching your daughters butt, what ~should~ you think about it?

I'm not prone to violence. I was once, long ago, but I found Buddha and learned to be at peace with myself. 2 years ago a 25 year old man pushed my son off his bike, for kicks I guess. I was there, saw it first hand. Heard him laugh about it. Then I broke his hand before he knew I was there. No charges were filed against me and the kid did 7 months for pushing my kid. I don't feel the least bit bad about it. I'm not even sure I attacked him out of anger.

Point is, if I had seen this pervert... maybe even if my daughter wasn't involved... he might have been seriously, grievously injured. Mobs have sprung up over stuff like this.

If I am reading you correctly what would I call it?

Instead of molesting I'd say its more groping.

Like I said its wrong and the guys deserves jail but IMHO I think the media is hyping this a bit much.

Like somebody said before this is not just a Disney issue its a fact of life issue.

'Molesting' is a legal term that includes groping. It is indeed the correct word.

Basically, being sexually accosted or fondled, without anything getting penetrated by anything, or else it rises to more of a sexual battery or rape case.

And those are words I never thought I would write on the DIS Boards. :teacher:

I agree with those who said that a parent being there wouldn't have stopped this. Unfortunately those teens are already dealing with what a lot of women deal with throughout their lives. I can't stand pervs!

The technical term is frotteurism. But the legal classification of the act is molestation. I don't see how calling this what it is is media hype.

Maybe if we took this sort of thing seriously enough it wouldn't be treated like a game by the people who do it.
