First the good news . . .

OUR TICKETS HAVE FINALLY ARRIVED :Pinkbounc :cheer2: :Pinkbounc We're now just 8 days aware from leaving home and I was seriously beginning to panic about our tickets, but the lovely postman brought them this morning. I've also realised I've not done my daily plans yet, mainly because the park hours seemed to change every other day I've left it until now. So I think I'll be far too busy to sit at DH's cricket match this afternoon (especially since it looks like cold and rainy :umbrella: he he).

The second excitement is we booked our next holiday yesterday  Two weeks in Lake Tahoe (California/Nevada stateline) skiing with our friends next Easter, with a couple of days at the end in San Fransisco. The kids can't stop chattering about it (nor can the adults come to that). It will be my first time skiing other than in Europe and I am SO excited :cheer2: :Pinkbounc :cheer2: :Pinkbounc :cheer2: :goodvibes :goodvibes (can you tell :rotfl2: ). So much planning to do now.

But sadly . . .
Our trip to Florida next week will be tinged with sadness though. As usual, we will visit old family friends in West Palm Beach. We had an email from Jo this morning to say that her DH Frank has had to go into a nursing home yesterday following complications from his diabetes and heart problems :sad2: We were afraid this would most likely be the last time we saw Frank (he's over 80, bless him) and has been going downhill rather rapidly the last couple of years, but to know for sure is heartbreaking. Sadly he is suffering from acute dimentia so we know he most likely won't recognise us. He is a Floridian through and through and has been the most amazing person to know; we count ourselves lucky to have know him and been part of his life :grouphug:

Annie - great news your tickets have arrived.

I have friends who go skiing at Lake Tahoe most Februarys and speak very highly of it - they have skiied all over the place (well, places there are snow ;) ) so have a lot to compare it to!

Sad news about your friend :( :grouphug:

Excellent news about your tickets:Pinkbounc

I wish I could book a holiday to SF/LA...but whenever we go we always end up booking to go back to FL:)
Happy planning for next year.

Sad news about your friend :grouphug:

Very sad about your friend.

Hope you have a fantastic time.

I hope you manage to see your friend, Frank, even though it's bound to be a visit tinged with sadness for you all.

I'm very envious of your Lake Tahoe trip - friends of ours did the same LT / SF combination this year and said it was fantastic! DH and I have said we must try skiing in Canada / North America next time ... but it's finding the 'next time' that's the difficult bit!

How's the packing coming along? ;)

Great news about your holiday next year, and this year for that matter, but sad to hear about your friend - Dementia is a very cruel disease. Hope he doesn't suffer too much more.

Sorry to hear about your friend :grouphug:

Great news about your holidays :cheer2:

Michelle

Thanks for all of your thoughts about Frank, everyone :love2:

It's been a really hard to choose where in the US or Canada to ski. Our friend Jon and I are both keen skiiers, the rest of our families are catching up - but it was really mine and Jon's choice to ski in North America, something we've both always wanted to do over the years. We had a great Christmas ski trip to Italy together last year, but decided we wanted to try somewhere other than Europe. So many places, but we got such a good deal with this one that the problem was solved.

I shall now be visiting the Ski shop in Orlando (how strange that sounds ;) ), just in case there's a bargain or too, not that we need anything, but you've just got to look . . . just in case

Still no further with my planning, really must concentrate on that today :wizard:

I've visited a couple of times and it seemed to have quite a small range (although it was August), and no cheap prices, but as you say, you have to visit just in case.

I just picked up another pair of skis in Snow & Rock for half price. I demoed them last season but decided I couldn't afford them, so I was very pleased to see them in S&R's sale!

Regards

Rob

Ooh yum, one of my fave shops on a visit to London :cool1: What are your skis then, Rob?
