Hi Steve,
Mostly from what I've read about Hampton Inns is that you can't go wrong staying at one.

We're also driving from southern NJ this week, and have 2 Hampton Inns booked for the drive down, one in Santee, SC, which is a bit south of Florence, and one in Brunswick, GA.

Depending on where we're at with our drive, we'll decide which one to cancel, as we'll have until 6pm the night of arrival.

Have a safe drive and fun vacation:)

Thanks, Steve look for the green ribbon, we'll be staying at the BC Villas:)

Forgot to mention before, and you may already have these links, but I'll post them anyway just in case:
One's a great site all about I-95, with loads of lodging info. on every exit.
The other is MSN Maps. It's like Mapquest, but personally, I think it's more detailed.

Two years ago we stayed at the Hampton Inn on US 52 in Florence, SC. I would not stay there again. We have stayed at many Hampton Inns up & down the East Coast.

I talked to someone at the front desk of this Hampton Inn before we checked out. Turns out this was one of the very early Hampton Inns & is now about 16 years old. It just did not feel like a Hampton Inn. For the amount they quoted me when we called from the SC Welcome Center, I expected better. The mattresses felt very soft & worn out & did not fit the springs on the bed, so we always felt like we were falling off the bed. Also they have al loutside corridors, no indoor hallways. As a Hilton Honors member we did not receive our bill on/under the door like we should have. The walls & bathroom door frame were dirty & marked up - needed paint, needed cleaning; etc. I will say they lived up to their 100% satisfaction guarantee.

I believe there are two Hampton Inns in the Florence area around I95.

On one trip last year we stayed at a very nice Sleep Inn at the same exit in Forence.

If you make it about an hour further down I95 to Santee, SC, then I would recomment Clark's Inn & Restaurant. If you like bbq, at the same exit is a Maurice's bbq - very good food & friendly employees.

We live in Princeton and we left here at 3:30AM to avoid rush hour in DC and were in Florence for lunch time at 1PM. I think you could get MUCH farter than Florence, and I'd also avoid stopping in Brunswick. We stayed at the Hampton Inn last year, and the place was a dump!! The lobby was nice, but the room we were in was VERY dirty. It looked like the carpet hadn't been vaccumed in 2 weeks, and there was mold everywhere in the bathroom. The exhaust fan was full of it!!! This year, we're stopping in Savannah (exit 94) and staying at the Country Inn and Suites.

Uh oh! We've got a room reserved at that very hotel...But not for long! Thanks for the tip, jel0511
