Anyone else affected by flooding in Casitas 2 on September 18 th and what were your damages?

We were in the Casitas Room 2244. We stayed @Csr Sept 8-18.
Our room overlooked the lions' heads fountains.
CSR is truly a beautiful resort.
We packed all our suitcases on September 17Th as we had to catch the ME to the airport on the morning of September 18th. I fell asleep around I A.M.
Had to pack 7 pieces of luggage for the family.
I was woken up between 4 and 5 A.M. By the sound of water running through the pipes. My dh also woke up. I commented that it seemd awfully early for someone to be taking a shower and I wish the would hurry up and finish. Well about 20 min elapsed and then I heard voices coming from outside our room.
I looked out the window an saw a river.... no kidding a rushing river cascading over the edge of the balcony... hotel staff was running into the room next door... 2243.. with towels. My husband told me to get back to bed.
He said the resort staff will handle the problem and they will le us know if need to evacuate. I lay in bed not sleeping listening to the hotel staf running back and forth. Then the fire department arrived and we could hear banging on metal and the sound of running water would stop and then start more banging. This went on for another 15 min and finally the sound of running water stopped.
A this point it there was no getting anymore sleep. My husband took a shower and said there was no hot water. No shower for me or ds 15.
Received a telephone message from housekeeping around this same time not to use the bathroom.ave
Our room appeared to be dry. Our luggage as well as my DKNY backpack..
Blacck with red patent leather was all stacked under the windo and against the wall of the adjoining room(2243... the one with the river running out of it. I picked up my Knapsack and it was heavy, sopping wet. At this point I realized the carpet and the floor and our luggage was all wet.... we had to still have breakfast and catch ME in about an hour.
My dh was furious... bad enough having to take a cold shower... and called the front desk to find out what had happenned . The manager at the front desk had no idea about flooding in the Casitas and said he would check into it and call me right back. He found out that the guests in room 2243 had broken off the sprinkler heads and the fire department had to come in and cap off the sprinklers. Housekeeping then came to our room and apologized for our luggage getting soaked and that our luggage were like sandbags that kept our room from being completely flooded.
We had to catch our flight... the mgr provided me with a nylon disney back pack as a tenporary measure and we barely made the ME with wet luggage and no breakfast.
The worst part was I took over 100 pictures and my digital camera was in my backpack and is ruined. Disney will replace the camera but the problem is my SD card has been destroyed... the camera shop cannot retrieve the pictures... they said by trying to turn on th camera it burned out the card.
We had 10 dys off wonderful birthday and anniversary pictures that are irreplaceable. My ds will never have anothe 15th birthday.. We planned for this special trip and now due to being int he wrong place at the wrong time we have no photos of this trip.
I also am exhaustd from doing 4+ days of laundry.
The resort mgr said the sprinklers did not malfunction... it was due to the negligence of the guest. He apologized but said there was nothing he could do for us as we were leaving.

How horrible! I'm glad they at least are going to replace your camera.

That's terrible and I would be upset to lose my photo's too but they can't take your memories of your child's 15th birthday! :grouphug:

Wow! That's incredible. I wonder if someone was smoking.
There may have been someone smoking..It wouldn't surprise me.The grounds at CSR are so beautiful and there are many benches around the fountains and pools where people could sit, as well as private alcoves around the lake yet people would pull their chairs out into the pasageways or sit in the stairwells and smoke.
I was never given the reasons why the sprinklers went off only that it wasn't due to a malfunction.
The flooding and lack of sleep was a terrible way to end this vacation.
It was not the resorts' fault but unfortunately I can't take any action against the individual involved as the mgr said Disney was handling it.
It can't take away the memories but it put a real damper on our special vacation...
I will give a full trip report without pictures when I have more time.

I'm so sorry about your last night!! Did you have any photopass pictures made? Maybe you could suggest that Disney could replace your pictures with those? I know it would never recover all of those photos, but it would be a great gesture of goodwill.

I am so sorry you lost your pictures. Did you have any photopass pictures that you would be able to use. I'm glad Disney is giving you a new camera but I know it doesn't bring back your pics from this very special trip. Even without your pictures, you still have all your wonderul memories - maybe you could journal your memories as a keepsake of your special trip.
Sending hugs your way!!:grouphug:

No photopass pictures. We had a voucher for a free Photopass 5x7 but I forgot to use it. I couldn't figure what photo pass was all about.
With trying to get all our ADrs , reading the dis, as well as Tour GuyMike I was just a tiny bit swamped and perhaps in someways overpacked and over prepared.
I had over 413 disney dollars left from my Visa Card pts which I was going to apply to my hotel bill but I didn't have a chance to due to the my morning being all messed up so they did an express checkout which was charged to my credit card instead. I guess I won't be using my Disney Visa quite so much
this year as they only allow you to amass $700. worth of Disney dollars.

I believe the limit is $750 per year, so you could add $750 next year to the $400 you have left on there already.

What a NIGHTMARE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What compensation did they offer you besides a new camera?
New Disney luggage would have been nice....

How sefish of the persons who purposely damaged the hotel- I hope that the law catches up to them

So do I. Some people just have no common sense. Since the incident I have learned it is not very easy to break a sprinkler head... :furious: :furious:
We loved all the beutiful flowers at CSR. One day when we were on the bus to DTD and a woman got on the bus with her family at another bus stop. She had picked some of the flowers. Canna Lilies, Bird of Paradise and was just carrying them in her hands to DTD. I could understand if she put it in a vase in her room to enjoy...but to carry them around DTD???:crazy2:

I thought how stupid...the flowers will die without water and iff fewer than half the guests at the resort picked a flower there would be no flowers left for others to enjoy.
What enjoyment is there in carrying around dying flowers?
JMHO

That is awful! I'm so sorry that happened to you and your family.

Simply awful of someone to ruin someone elses vacation for being stupid. I'm sorry you lost all of your pictures, but you'll never forget the wonderful time you and your family had.

Here's a big HOWDY from your neighbor down the road.:wave2:

I'm so sorry that this happened to you and ruined your pictures!

Even though you are now at home and Disney has offered to replace your camera, I think the Manager's attitude was not enough and the resort needs to be more on top of things when catastrophes like this happen. Even at night managers need to be aware of what is going on in rooms in their resorts and proactive in quietly notifying neighboring rooms of potential problems. What if you had been dealing with a sick child and needed to use your bathroom? I know they didn't want to wake people but from what you describe, the water and noise was pretty bad.

Based on a difficult AKL hotel experience we had a few years ago, I would summarize your night and difficulties in an e-mail letter to Disney and snail mail as well. They need to know how your situation was handled and the loss of your daughter's pictures!

Again, I wish things hadn't ended your trip so badly!

I agree, I believe the resort could have handled the situation better. The manager said they have been having meetings to establish some sort of system for handling these emergencies. He was upset that he had not been informed of the situation... until I called.
The sprinklers going off sent an alert to the fire department. My concern was if there had been a fire in that room it would have been nice to have been informed. A courtesy call or knock on the door....
Housekeeping said Disney would replace all our soaked Disney purchases.. Guest claims said the limit was reached for my backpack and camera and they could not do anymore.( BTW I had to send them my camera for verification )
I spoke to guest claims but they said they can only look at property damage and can only reimburse up to $500 for damages according to the hotel Act of Florida.
My camera was over $400 , my DKNy re and black leather backpck was $250..... never mind our luggage etc.
I was advised if we were still at the resort reimbursement would be made by the resort management and they would have taken care of everything.
I was advised to itemize everything and submit a claim to my HomeInsurance. With our deductible and everything we lost we may not be able to afford to replace everything that was damaged and be quite a bit OOP.
I am just thankful we were not injured.
I am thankful that this is out of the norm and not a regular occurrence at Disney resorts.

I guess it wouldn't hurt to write a letter to Disney.
Who should I address it to... Resort Manager @CSR? GuesT Claims? Or Guest Services?

Thanks for sll your kind words. Dis'ers are the best.

Wow! That's incredible. I wonder if someone was smoking.

I doubt that was the cause. I doubt cigarette held directly to the head would not be hot enough to melt the trigger. Probably idiot hanging from the head or something. If the center trigger melts (which what sets off sprinklers in a fire), is pulled out somehow, or the entire head is ripped off the sprinkler will go off.

I'm surprised the building's fire alarm didn't go off. Luckily it sounds like each room is its own sprinkler zone and the ones in your room didn't go off. In the dorm I used to live in each floor was it's own zone and if a sprinkler gets triggered a valve opens and pops every single sprinkler on that floor. There's three sprinklers in each room and many in the hallways of this building so that would cause some major flooding and damages. Never happened in my building but I heard of it happening in another dorm on campus. The entire floor got flooded out and lots of residents lost their TVs and what not. Last I heard they were still having mold issues and this happened a few years ago.

Sounds like nobody knew where the main valves to shut off the spriklers. I think the night staff should learn where those are at so if it happens again the water can be shut off quickly.

I hope Disney does the right thing and pays for your damages.

How about sending a copy to all three? That'll make sure it gets to the right people. Do it the professional way and have the notation that carbon copies were sent to the others so they'll know. Probably wouldn't be a bad idea to also send a copy to the people in charge of all the resorts.
