Hi everyone....Total Board Newbie here so be kind to me!! (also explains lack of fun in my signature....I'm working on it honest!!)

My lovely lovely boyfriend is taking me to Orlando for 2 weeks in 8 days time where we will spend at least 80% at WDW....excited is an understatement!!

My query is over shoes and bag...A week ago I ran in the London Marathon and simply cannot bear to wear trainers right now!! I have the comfiest flip flops (Animal - swish style) and I was going to wear these while my feet are still recovering. Will I be able to wear these on rides or do you have to wear shoes that will not fall off?

Also - I wore a running belt during the race (like a bum-bag/fanny-pack but for serious running/sports) and although it was comfy it did leave me with a few grazes - and now I can't wear anything round my waist like I was planning to for days in the park....I do have a small pouch-type bag (6 inches or so square and an inch thick) with a long strap that goes round my neck and over my shoulder - will I be able to take it on rides or will I have to put it in a locker?

Not intending on carrying any valuables just my lip balm, hair elastic and my autograph book and pen ;o)

If anyone can help/advise - I'd be really grateful....
Thankyou!! Mel

Last year, I did "bootcamp Disney" / commando (hustling to get it ALL in) all in my comfy flip-flops. I loved it. Soarin' was the only attraction that had us remove flip flops, which was fine. You get plenty of time to remove them and put them back on - it is gentle and relaxing.
Your pouch sounds ideal. Expect it to be searched when you enter a park. You can take a small bag like that on EVERY attraction. Perhaps you'll want to put it in a plastic bag for the Kali River Rapids to keep it dry.

HI and WELCOME!:welcome: Flip flops will be fine as long as they have support-but being a runner you know all about that! We use a back pack-but we have two boys who need snacks and drinks all day- Im sure your bag will be fine for just you and your DB (disney boyfriend)! Hope you have a great trip!

Thank you so much for the responses - I feel a lot more relaxed about footwear and bags in the park now!!

Amazing how a little thing can make you worry so much!!

Hi P Mel,

When I first went to WDW I wore trainers or Timberland sandals which were very comfy but a bit boyish! I have bought 2 pairs of flip flops in Florida - brand is called Reef. Not sure if you can get them in the UK. They are really comfy. When we 'do' the parks we are there morning, noon and night! I bought them in a shop at City Walk at Universal. Even for flip flops they are quite stylish but most importantly very comfy. So much so that DH bought a pair on our last trip.

When you go on the water rides you don't have to worry about soggy shoes as your flip flops dry very quickly as you're walking on to the next show/ride. When you ride the big coasters where your feet are dangling I'd just take them off and either sit on them (lots of folks do this) or you hold them or leave them at the side of the ride for when you get off. As for bum bags (you could ask your fellow traveller to wear one!) or take a small, cross-body bag. ( I bought one from Fossil - again at City Walk at Universal) to put your valuables in. You will be able to keep it on you when you get on the rides as long as it's not too big.

I bet you'll have a brill time. Enjoy!:yay:

When we were there at WDW last year, we saw tons and tons of people with those shoes that look like clogs but are in multi colors. If I were wearing flip flops, I'd just get a pair with an extra thick sole so you don't feel the heat of the asphalt too much.

Enjoy your trip!!!!!

I will occasionally wear my Crocs to WDW, but really prefer flip flops. I'm leaving for WDW in five days and all I'm packing this trip are flip flops (Teva Mush x3, Montrails x1, and Havaianas x2). The only time we've ever had to take our flip flops off is on Soarin. We usually just leave them on the floor and since you come back down to the exact same spot, all you have to do is slide your feet back into them.

As far as bags, your bag sounds perfect. You should not have any trouble taking it on every ride. I usually take a small backpack and have never had any trouble holding onto it on any ride.

Thanks again everyone - I will pack my Animal Swish flip flops with total confidence...thick soles and cusioned fabric straps....perfect!!

You got the right idea.

One of the things I love about Disney is that you can really dress comfortable and not feel out of place. I bring sandels that are broken in and they are very comfortable. No socks for me on my entire trip.
