I'm hoping someone from Calgary who has flown to WDW during the holidays can help me out on the best time to purchase airplane tickets.

We are booked for our first trip to WDW, leaving Dec. 27 and back Jan.4. I was lucky enough to get 2 tickets through Air Canada using my aeroplan points. They are on the United Flight through Denver ( both ways). Now I'm trying to book the other 2 tickets for my DH and DS. I'd love for them to be on the same flights DD and I will be on. But currently the cost would be $750.00 round trip for one person.

Is this a reasonable price to pay for a round trip ticket from YYC to MCO during the holidays? The planes to/from Denver are small and seem to be about 40% booked. The flight from Denver to MCO is maybe 25% reserved already.

I guess my question is should I go ahead and book at this price or do you think the price may drop some in the next few months?

Its a bit of a balancing act to get a better price but also get the tickets on the flights you want. I would prefer that we are on the same flights as it make its easier, but if that doesn't happen we can always split up too.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

I am not from Calgary but I have flown many times to Orlando during the holiday season. In 2005 I used airmiles for my wife and myself and paid almost $800.00 /person for my children to fly down from Toronto. In 2000, I paid $600.00 / person round trip from Toronto. I think that $750.00 airfare from Calgary is quite reasonable to pay. I would get them now and try to ensure that everyone is on the same flight. Rarely do you ever see the prices drop for that time of year. We are going on a family trip to WDW again this year als. It has been 5 years since we have all gone so it will be exciting to do it again. Have fun

That's about the price March break tickets were from T.O. this year. Unfortunately, that seems like a reasonable price in comparison.

Thanks very much! :thumbsup2 I think I will just get the tickets now instead of driving myself crazy checking flights everyday. Plus I can't complain as I got 2 tickets at a great price (close to free).

That price is high. The prices will definitely drop. It's up to you whether you want to wait or not. Good luck:goodvibes

We usually fly out of Edmonton which has similar choices/prices with the exception of the direct Westjet flight that Calgary enjoys.

We went down for last Christmas and since I booked WDW more than a year out (Sept 08) I was really watching for flights. I was checking Air Canada, Northwest, Delta, Westjet, United, Alaska, etc a few times a day for about 5 months.

We finally got our tickets when I checked AC at around 1:30 AM in Mid February (10 months before we were to fly) and got United flights through Denver with our preferred times for $209 each way not including fees and taxes. I never did see anything close to this price for our dates after we booked, though my sister got Delta flights ( in Sept) for the same Christmas period for around $450 including fees/taxes.

I see AC has a bunch of those $209 one-way fares out now, but only to the end of June. Who knows if or when they'll extend those prices. I'm currently dreaming of a quick trip in November and I'd expect the lower fares in August if AC's timing remains the same when announcing these sale prices? Historically speaking, you won't see many deals for flights later than Dec 19 or so anyways.

When to book is all about your comfort levels. If I were you I'd grab anything even close to $600 pp. Would I go $750 pp, maybe, just to be sure I had all our flights set up just the way I want them.

I'd hate to be on another flight while my family flies off ahead of me.:)

Thanks Dis_guy and drag n' fly.

I was able to pick up tickets down to MCO for DH and DS for $375 each on united.ca (one way with taxes) but know I'll wait for their return flights and take my chances.

I noticed Air Canada is having their Olympics specials again (today its 15% off all flights) but of course the dates end before the holidays:sad1:
