Has anyone booked their flights for Christmas already? This is getting confusing, we have waited until this morning to try for Virgin flights (11 months in advance) to fly Christmas Day, to be told they have completely sold out! As have BA. We did'nt book until early March last year and I thought I was being organised.

HELP!!!!!!!

Twinks,

When you say you have tried Virgin this morning, who exactly have you phoned? Virgin Holidays receives an allocation of flights for its holiday and fly-drive packages which it can sell many months in advance of the 11 month window and these often do sell out. However, I think it's unlikely that all Virgin Atlantic flights have sold out this far in advance.

Can you be a little bit flexible with dates, or are you restricted to a particular day? Try phoning around various agents - we usually try Virgin Travelstore, Flightbookers and Expedia.

Which day(s) are you looking to fly out and back?

Thanks Debbie

I am trying online now, although almost all say it's too far in advance!

We want to fly Christmas Day and be back around 8 January, we have had no problem the last 4 years flying on Christmas Day. Virgin Travelstore are showing no availability too!

I think I'm right in saying that scheduled flights can be booked 335 days in advance, so your outward flight should become available on Tuesday of this week (2004 being a leap year).

I have heard from a few people, that although officially scheduled flights can only be booked 11 months in advance, some travel companies are allowing people to book flights before this, based on prices/timetables that these companies 'expect' to be able to confirm once they are within the 11 months - if that makes sense!

A colleague fo mine has booked for next New Year and has been told that he is 99% certain to be able to get the flight/price he has pre-booked.

This practice seems rather unfair to me - especially as many people wait until the 11 months beforehand to actually book.

We booked in December 2003 for December 2004 i.e.12 months ahead at Virgin Holidays. We booked a flydrive holiday but are not picking up the hire car. They charge more if you don't want it but a lot less than the insurance costs. We wanted Virgin Premium seats and last Christmas couldn't get a reservation at 335 day ahead. Flydrive price is about same price as seat only.
