Today it looked like there was a small blip in flight prices. Book round trip on Airtran from Detroit to Orlando. We will land at 8am on our first day, so a FULL day, and the MK is open till 2:00am that day.

A couple of questions:

Anyone flown with Airtran and can comment on service. So far I like that they have free drinks and free XM radio...MORE then Spirit offers.

Can anyone recommend a hotel neat DTW with free Park n Fly. I have heard they exist, but not sure which ones they are. If not, at least a nice clean place, as we will have to leave the hotal around 3am.

I am SO STOKED

Sean

We flew out of Detroit last summer to Orlnado and will fly out a Buffalo this August with Air Trans. They are awesome.... very nice staff, clean plane, great service, SUPER price! No complaints. Buffalo is a little closer than Detroit for us which is the reason for the switch.

Have a great trip neighbour ...greetings from Woodstock!:wizard:

Good to hear! I always fly Spirit, so other discount airlines are good to know about.

Some nice perks also!

I've flown AirTran a few times. No problems other than a lost cup holder on the stroller (I couldn't get it off the stroller but it somehow came off during flight).

Bring your own headphones as they don't give you any. They may have some for purchase, but I'm not sure. We flew at night the last time so I tried to sleep.

No complaints here about Air Tran - flights have always been uneventful and we've flown with them many times.
I just booked Rochester to Orlando yesterday for a long Thanksgiving weekend!

We flew with them just recently and loved it. Our flight was over booked. So they were looking for 4 volunteers to be bumped. We are a family of four so I went up to find out what they would offer for the bump. We were flying out of Portland ME. so what they would do was taxi us to Boston about 1.5 hour drive. Then put us on a direct flight to Orlando. If we agreed we would get 4 free round trip tickets any where Air Tran fly's, food vouchers for the Boston airport and bumped to Business class. Plus we would only arrive 45min later in Orlando than our original flight. We took it.:goodvibes
Now I'm looking into where to fly FREE with Air Tran next.:thumbsup2

We`ve flown airtran 3 times & never a problem. You do get free drinks & a small snack (crackers or pretzels). & radio. They do offer WiFi for a fee. Don`t have a bad thing to say about them. Can`t comment on the hotel though, we fly from Buffalo.

We stayed at the Springhill Suites last week. Their Park & Fly package cost us $89 and included 8 days parking. We've also stayed at the Fairfield further north on Merriman and can recommend either. With both hotels you park in the hotel lot overnight and then move your car to the adjacent parking facility in the morning; you're then taken to the airport by the parking lot's shuttle. The hotel will provide you a voucher when you check in which you use to "pay" for your parking when you return.

These two hotels are rated #1 and #2 on tripadvisor.com for Romulus-area hotels. Just whatever you do, stay away from the hellhole that is the Howard Johnson's...

On our night flight last year someone knew a code for a free 24 hrs of WiFi. Check the brocures or ask if you notice someone else with a laptop, before paying. My neighbour's (live down the street) that were flying with me got free WiFi and the lady next to me was the one that gave them the code.

AirTran didn't have a red-eye this year, so I had to book with Delta (non-stop). It was even cheaper than AirTran or Southwest :confused3

Keep an eye on your flight times..Air Tran is famous for changing them....even the evening before your flight!!

I stayed in the Farifield Inn (Marroitt) and it was beautiful- rooms looked brand new and they had breakfast in the morn too. Maybe not at 3 am though!! Park and fly is connected to the hotel. As for the HOJO~ STAY away for sure all the posts talk about black mold in the bathrooms.....

Flew with AirTran the end of 08. Everything was fine. They do change the flight times often to make sure you check it time and again if you are trying to make detailed plans. I wouldn't bother until three weeks before your flight because after that they aren't usually changed.

The only thing I would say sucked about AIR TRAN was the placement and seat arrangement they did with our family. We were all under one reservation but they scattered us in the plane. My two children and boyfriend in one row, me one row behind them but across the aisle, and my mother one row ahead infront of them. I don't understand why they couldn't have had my mother and I together in the row across from my children and boyfriend. Why scatter us around? That being said, I would still fly with them.

I flew with them and I didn't have any problems.
I have stayed at Embassy Suites a couple of months ago with my son's hockey team and it was wonderful. Free happy hour with munchies and a warm breakfast with eggs, pancakes, bacon and omlets made to order. It was very clean, the beds were very comfortable and the service was unbelievable. They do have packages for Park n' Fly.

Not only are they infamous for changing flight times, but they also change you from a direct to a connection...so keep your eye on that reservation regularly.

I really liked AirTran. The free satellite radio was great and the customer service was nice as well. When our flight times got changed around (and one flight was changed from direct to connection), I just called and they allowed me to pick new flights, no charge, as long as the new flights were within 24 hours of the old ones.

Also, the last time I did Stay, Park and Fly, we stayed at the Best Western Gateway International. I believe it was $90 or so including 7 nights of parking. The hotel was clean and big and they had a nice pool if that would be a factor. I have also stayed at the Crowne Plaza which is gorgeous but tends to be on the pricey side. Have a great trip!

The only reason I can think of for this is that AirTran allows you to pay to select your seats in advance. If you want to guarantee that your family is sitting together, you need to pay for your selections when you book. As others book and pay to select their seats, AirTran will just move those that have not around the plane until all seats are full. A suggestion is to do online check-in as soon as they allow. You can select your seats for free at this point and try and get most of your family together (or near each other).

Never had a problem. We will be flying with them in two weeks going to DW. Can't wait.
