Flights booked at last

Have finally got our flights booked after hours and hours of searching websites trying to find airlines that provide an infant care chair for DS who will be 14months- dont fancy sitting with a toddler on my lap for 9 hours- and its safer too!!! Using VA from Gatwick - managed to get 10% off with my flying club membership and got regional connections for 10 pounds each!!

Great - I just wish they'd had these infant seats when our children were small!! It was torture holding them for a short flight muchless a long one!! Especially a big baby as my third was. I agree about the safety issue as well.

Some airlines will let you take a car seat in the cabin for infants to sit in -useful if you are intending to hire a car too .... but admittedly, less so if not !

Might be a consideration for the future, or for other Dis members

When we boarded the plane they didnt have the seat for twin boys who were 23 month old then. Even though we ordered these when we pre-booked our seats. They said we woud have to have them on our laps for take off and landing. For any turbulance. On the way back they didnt seem to care if they stayed on the chair or not. I would check with check in that they were definately ordered.

sorry if I gave a negative feedback here, but with a 14 month old baby you would want the seat if they were a sleep otherwise all the moving around if the flight was turbulent would interuppt thier sleep considering its a long haul flight.

Good luck, but keep checking its ordered.

We tried to buy a car seat we could take on the aircraft but could not get one anywhere - sales people were looking at me like I was mad!!!

We got on well with the infant care chair on Virgin. We have used it twice (age 16 months and 23 months) On one trip they hadn't noted the request so there was a shortage of chairs for the number of toddlers on board. We did get one for DD who was then 23 months but another family with a slightly bigger toddler went without, but they were happy to do so. so definitely check your request.

We liked the chair a lot. It kept her contained so she could not get down and she slept well in it. However, DD's legs were kind of dangling which we felt might be uncomfortable and she did kick the seat infront a lot. We took her shoes off pretty quick. The crew prop cushions behind the seat which tips it forward a bit- not sure why. Also the seat must go in the window seat. We prefer to have her in the middle so we can take it in turns to colour or read with her. Last trip at nearly 2.5 we did not use the chair. She was better in the regular seat.

Hope you have a good flight. We found that if we got the later flight home 7.40pm I think, DD would sleep the night and almost escape the dreaded jet lag. We always try for that flight as sleeps better as it feels like bedtime.
