So, having been good and saving nicely we have got £1000 in our flight fund and will have the remainder on the 30th April to book our flights in full at my £500pp budget for 4 of us. (20/8 to 3/9 LGW to MCO indirect).

Imagine my shock today when I saw that the £480 flights with US airways have gone up to £730!!! Overnight an increase of £250

I actually feel a bit sick - someone mentioned that doing constant searches on these days can cause prices to go up.

If we travel the following day so do 21/8 to 3/9 we can still get the flights for £470 if we fly back into heathrow which is fine as we are on the south coast so eithe London airport suits us.

Is this normal for flights to go up like this - we don't do credit cards but am wondering whether we should now borrow some money from a relative and get a booking in.

Thoughts?

I have been on flight watch for two weeks up till payday, the flights were £204 with monarch going on 20th April up till Monday this week, when I went to book them Tuesday morning they had gone up £26 per person?? Now I know this is a fantastic price still but just wanted to share this with you x :wizard:

Flights are going mental! We're going in Sept & I'd hoped to pay around £550pp (from Edinburgh), but the price kept creeping up. Then 2 weeks ago I saw Virgin from Glasgow had come down from £658pp to £585. I decided just to book it. Being nosy I had another peek a couple of days ago and Virgin are now up to £1058pp!!

I don't know what's going on but to jump from £585 to £1058 is nuts!

I hope you manage to book something soon within your budget.

clear your cookies and look again, or look on a diffrent computer they may go back down.

If you see it at a good price you don't mind paying you should book my whole holiday went down to a good price now it's 2000 more but I have also heard prices change if you keep looking

I have booked with US Airways last week.

Paris to Orlando via Charlotte. October 2012

I paid roughly £410pp (rounded to that number given the fact that we have 2 adults and 1 kid paying around 90% of the adult fare)

4 days later, the same flight is priced at £475
there are still flights with the price I paid, but the layovers are much longer

There are only a set amount of low fares, once they're sold, they're sold, and judging by the seatmap for my flight, lots of people already booked even 6 months out.
It might be days or weeks before the price decreases again (if it ever does) and there will only be a very small amount of seats at such fares.

Booking a flight is a bit like the stock exchange, you need to be able to pick the right moment to make your move.
I always go by one rule : if it looks good there is little chance it gets better.
Of course I had the luxury of having £1400 available on my account, otherwise I would have been as disappointed as OP

The flight prices debate was on watchdog the other day. There is no pattern, they change as and when they feel like it, with no logic most of the time.

Best advice is book if you like the price, wait if not.

Best price I can find is £469 with Delta but flights times are not very good at all and shows only a few seats remaining.

LHR 14:25 → MCO 00:18 14h 53m 1 stop (ATL)
MCO 10:30 → LHR 12:15 20h 45m 1 stop (ATL)

I heard that some of these sites notice via your IP address and if you keep checking, put the prices up. Don't know how true this is though!
Definitely try the deleting your cookies or use another PC as a PP suggested.
