Our flight is scheduled to land at 4:10pm, we're taking ME to our resort, and then we want to eat at the DTD Rainforest Cafe for dinner. What time should we make a reservation for that we'll safely be able to get to in time?:confused3

I would say around 7 or 8......

Where are you staying and do you plan on relaxing after you check in or heading straight to dinner?

From the time the plane lands to get to your room I would guestimate at least 1.5 hours. And that is if your plane is on time.
Agree, I would not make one before 7 p.m.

ME takes about 90 minutes from touchdown to arrival at the resort, but I'd allow two hours just to be safe or if your flight is a little late.

Figure 30 minutes to check in, and get to your room.

Another 30 minutes to freshen up and walk back to the bus.

Finally, another 60 minutes to wait for the bus, ride to DTD, walk to the restaurant from bus stop.

That's four hours -- 8 PM based on your ETA.

Planes can always be delayed. I would do as the others have said and wait until 7 or 8. My daughter met us in WDW in May and was supposed to land at 2 pm and at 2 pm she was stuck in a delay in Denver. She also booked the Princess and Pirates Party and basically missed it. A dinner reservation, if worst comes to worst doesn't cost anything at least if you miss it. Have a nice trip.

I agree that you'll want to make it for about 8pm.

You may want to consider a relaxing morning the first morning, with an 8pm dinner, it may be a rather late night. :goodvibes

An 8pm dinner would usually feel like a late night, but we're coming from the pacific time zone that day, so 8pm will feel like 5pm to us.:goodvibes

On the other hand, we'll most likely be pretty tired from flying all day. Our flight leaves at 6am, so a very early morning for us. Also, unfortunately a relaxing morning the next day is out of the question. We'll need to check out of ASMo and head on over to CSR, where our 7 night package is reserved. We have to do it fairly early in the morning so we can get our KTTW cards (with themeparks tickets and DDP on them), and hopefully be at DHS by 10:00am.

I'm not sure just what to do. I know we could hang out at ASMo for the evening (swim and have dinner there), but I thought going to the Rainforest Cafe would be a fun dinner for our multigenerational party (young grandkids 9 & 5, hubby and me, an uncle, and grandma). Grandma isn't going to want to swim, and probably won't be impressed by the super busy CS restaurant at ASMo (I'm guessing). But I think everyone would get a kick eating at the Rainforest Cafe.

Maybe we'll be okay if I make a reservation for around 7:30pm. Hopefully we won't be so travel-tired that we won't want to eat.:upsidedow

I think you have the right idea just to stay at the hotel instead of trying to rush to get to a dinner after all the travel. I would want to relax after a long flight. It will be a long day for you. You will have plenty of time to impress the family when you have the dining plan and are somewhat rested.

You think that is the better course of action for us? Maybe you're right. I don't want everyone to be completely exhausted the next day for our first full day at WDW. I want everyone well rested and ready to have FUN!

I wonder what grandma (she's 66) will think of the food at ASMo? (I know she'll get a kick out of all the big icons at the resort!)

Does Grandma still eat pizza or Italian? Giordano's delivers and has a menu with pastas, salads, sandwiches in addition to their pizza.

You could always order pizza for Giordano's and have it delivered to your resort. Dinner by the pool with Pizza/Pasta may fit the bill for your group after a long day of traveling.

Really that late at night I think the crowds won't be too bad. I mean there will be people especially with parks closing and people wanting to get a snack, but the food isn't too bad. We did a CS there one night when we were there for 2 days before we could get to BW. They have salads and stuff that grandma might not mind? It's pretty eclectic.

Grandma will most likely be glad to finally be off the plane and if she's never been to WDW amazed. I would just get something to eat at the food court and not worry so much about impressing them. Like I said, look at the places you will eat once you are rested and have DDP! My daughter met us (flying in from Phoenix by way of Denver and had a delay there and her flight ended up being about 4 hours late. The had a Princess and Pirate Party booked that night (against my better judgement, there was another while they were there that could have been scheduled) Well, needless to say they missed most of the party, were very tired (early flight like you) and just needed to get settled in.

Like I said don't worry so much. Have a great trip and safe flight. We are driving to WDW from NJ on Thurs and will stop overnight in SC. (I have gone cross country and visited your beautiful state!!)

Thanks for the great advice.:thumbsup2

I think just having fun and eating at the resort is the way to go. We'll walk around and get some great photo-ops with the icons, take the kids swimming (if it's not too cold), or if it is too cold then check out the arcade, and have dinner at the CS restaurant there. I'm sure grandma will find something there that she'll like. And, like you said, we have lots of wonderful ADRs planned with the DDP.

Actually, like your daughter, we're flying by way of Denver as well. We'll keep our fingers crossed that there won't be any delays.

(Hope you can come back to Washington for another visit someday. We love it here! It really is very beautiful.:) )

Have a great trip to WDW and drive safely!:wizard:

Ooh, this sounds pretty good too. Thanks for the suggestion.:thumbsup2

I'm sure you will have a great time. Like you said you could explore the resort especially since you will only be there for the night. I have eaten a few meals at the food court at ASMu and they had pizza/pasta, turkey and chicken dinners, any type of salad you like made to your liking, chicken fingers/hambergers etc, fruit, ice cream and bakery. I may have forgotten some items and don't forget this is just what was at ASMu.

I, too, hope we can get out to Washington again. We have gone crosscountry 6 times over the years and all the trips were wonderful! On the last one, we actually didn't go all the way just as far west as west of Glacier NP in Montana. It was beautiful. I love the west!! Have fun and all of you will!!

What you could do is just make a reservation for 730. That way you have it. If you decided when you arrive then there isn't enough time or you guys are just too tired, just call and cancel it. As long as you cancel it an hour or so before (just to be fair to walk up guests or those who are calling last minute), I cant see there being a problem with this.
Enjoy your vacation!
