The kids were asking today about the route our plane will take when it leaves Manchester and I didn't know.

Are there any AA (aircraft anoraks:p) folk out there who can post a link that shows the flight path.?
Our lass, sat reading this over my shoulder, says we go over the Atlantic Ocean apparently - didn't know that!!

It's a Virgin flight by the way.

Thanks,

We flew out over the Wirral and said "we can see your house form here!" to my BIL. However I think that depends on the wind direction as I, and my dad who is a seasoned Atlantic traveller, have flown down over Cheshire, and up towards Scotland on previous flights.

Then we flew over the Atlantic, over the tip of Greenland I think, and then all the way down the east coast of North America, starting at Newfoundland.

It looks a ridiculous path on a map, but if you have a look at a globe, you'll see it's pretty much a straight line. I should guess that they try to fly near land, and hence airports, should an emergency landing be required, but I've never researched that one!

We always fly Gatwick - Orlando and there are many different flight paths, although I think I'm right in saying they are variations of two main ones - either across to Canada and down the eastern seaboard (i.e. the one edie w mentions), or more directly across the Atlantic to Florida. I think the inflight magazine maps them all, but that doesn't help you now!

Virgin Flyer is a great, unofficial Virgin website which has allsorts of anoraky information - you might find something there.

There are quite a few websites where you can track flights and it draws on the flight path taken by the aircraft.

One is .www.flytecomm.com but if you plug "Flight tracking" or similar into Google more come up. All you need is the airline and flight number of the flight you want to track.

The only drawback of this method is that you can only look when the flight is actually in the air!

Hmmm very interesting! Didn't know you could find things like this :teeth: How do you find out what aircraft you'll be on though - I really really need to know of course:crazy:
