Flight out of San Diego after Cruise

Normally if you get off right away, the airport is only 3 miles away. Depending on what time of the year however they do get fog which can delay docking.

If the ships on time, and you get a quick taxi and check in and security has no lines; sure. If several of those things don't happen; maybe. If none of those things happen; no. How much are you willing to risk it?

The airport is VERY close to port and when we sailed from SD in april there were tons of taxis waiting at port. However, when we sailed there were a lot of issues with customs at the SD port and getting on the ship was delayed 90 min and getting off was also delayed 90 min. I think our flight was around 12:30-1:30 pm and we had no issues making our flight. Hopefully the customs issues were just a weird fluke as sailing resumed earlier this year.

In San Diego there's so many things to do right near the port within walking distance or a short transit ride away. Don't be so quick to leave 😉

They have started a major remodel on Terminal 1 which is creating lots of traffic backups

That might be doable as the airport is so close in SAN, but it's definitely risky....

We have a flight out from San Diego at 7pm after our cruise in October. We are not sure what to do with our bags, but I think we might just rent a car and sightsee a bit more before going to the airport around 5. Or, we may see if the Manchester Grand Hyatt (where we are staying prior to the cruise) will let us store bags until later in the day.

I would definitely check with the hotel. I've had success with this on several trips with different hotels. Also you can search for luggage storage services. NYC has one I've used in the past. Using one can be a little pricey (around $10.00 a bag) but it does allow for dumping luggage and touring. I don't know why more places like cruise terminals don't offer this service. People are willing to pay for a safe place to leave bags while waiting to be allowed to check them into a flight.

I was searching and came across this thread.

Flights leaving San Diego and not ideal for cruises passengers! Maybe others have discovered that as well.

What about a 1:30 flight. That should be okay, right?

1:30 will definitely be fine.

I also wouldn't stress too much about an 11:25 AM flight if you can do express walk-off--without traffic the drive is only 10 minutes. Heck, you could walk it in 45 minutes if you had to.

There is heavy construction on Terminal 1 right now. If you are flying SWA you should allow extra time.

Do you have any idea how long this will continute? We just booked the WBPC for Oct 2023. By November, we'll be looking at flights.
