Flight from YVR to LAX (Vancouver, BC to Los Angeles)

Fairly Newbie flyer here ... we usually travel by car and fly rarely.

Also ... please excuse this double posting ... I'm going to also post these same questions on the Disneyland Forum. Thanks for your help!

1) Would like to depart Vancouver: July 1 (preferred) or June 30, 2017

2) Any hints or tips on how to get "best" rate for flights from YVR to LAX (Vancouver International to Los Angeles International Airport)?

3) Which Airline do you recommend and why?

4) What was your cost for 1 ticket? When was your flight? This will give me an idea of what kind of "good" rates I should be looking for.
