For some reason I thought an 11:00 AM departure time was ok from MCO/Orlando once we return on the Wish to Port Canaveral. And then I saw that Disney suggests a LATER departure time.

We have a private car transfer from the port to MCO at 8:15- but have to stop at our hotel close by to pick up additional luggage. I thought it would be easier to just take hand luggage on the cruise. We plan to do walk off disembarkation.

How worried should I be about catching the flight? We need to be at airport no later than 9:30 to check in and drop luggage.

What time do you think we can walk off in the morning?

We’ve done 10:30 in the past, once quite comfortably and the other with the airline attendant closing the check-in one second after us. It’s doable but stressful and risky. Anything wrong happens - walk-off delay, car trouble, traffic - and you might be looking for another flight.

Express walk-off starts at 7:30, but there is usually a line starting sooner than that. By 8:15, you might be in line for 15-20 minutes. I would move my transport to 7:45 and bring all my luggage onboard or, preferably, move the flight.

Time wise - you should be ok/but cutting it close. Walk off early/no sit down breakfast.

I think years ago DCL recommended flights 11:30 and later but even with this time (even if it was so), you need to worry for an emergency. The ship coming in late for whatever reason, traffic detours, accident, TSA line at airport (two different lines crazy long when we flew home in October), etc.

If you have already booked, Good luck!! Let us know how you make out.

I know on the Fantasy walk off started about 6:30 last week and they no longer call luggage tags, you just go. Not sure if the Wish is using the same system or not. With that said we've been sitting at the Navy Exchange, right next to the airport, at 8:30 and that was even after eating breakfast in the MDR. If the ship docks on time you should be OK.

Disney says 11:25 so you're pretty close. The only way it would be an issue is if there is a late arrival back into port, which isn't totally unheard of, but it's very rare.

In my experience, DCL has never called tags in PC unless they arrive late. They can get all the luggage off and placed in the appropriate location before the first guests get off the ship. We had tags called in Galveston, Miami, Dover and Copenhagen however.

Look at the timeline.
IF the car service is there on time and you have been able to get off the ship (it can be very crowded during debarkation) you will be in the car for 8:15. Again, that's all a big 'if', everything has to go as planned and the car service does not get stuck in traffic or a long line at the port.
Hotel for luggage pick up may be close but you still have to drive there and get someone at the hotel to retrieve your luggage. Probably 20 minutes at least. So about 8:35.
Drive from PC to MCO is about an hour assuming traffic is going well. Last time we drove this there was a backup of traffic near the airport which we could never explain. No accidents, no reason for it, but it was still a backup and we had to sit for 5 minutes. So, you arrive at airport about 9:30.
You need to check your luggage so now you have to find your airline counter and do that, about 15 minutes from walking in the airport door to dropping off luggage. So now you're at 9:45.
Then the real fun begins. You need to get through security and time wise, that is anyone's guess. Could be 20 minutes, could be an hour. Let's go with a good estimate and say 30 minutes. Now you are at 10:15.
You need to find your gate and get ready because boarding starts 30-45 minutes before the flight actually is due to leave. The gate closes about 15 minutes before your flight leaves, so you don't have much room for error. So, if you manage to get to the gate by 10:30 you will be okay. You can't get there at 10:55 and think you are getting on because the flight leaves at 11. That's not how it all works.

To my eyes, you're cutting it close if you have a car pick up at 8:15 and a flight at 11. I would either change my flight to a later time or have the car service pick me up at least by 7:45 and even then, I would be worried. If even one of my scenarios above are off by a few minutes, you could be looking for new flights at the airport.
You do what you feel is best but look at your options closely.
This is all JMO, please take with a grain of salt.

Ok - we'll ask the car to be there at 7:45 - and we'll walk off at 7:30. Thank you.

I was worried about bringing all the luggage on board because then we have to wait for it to be offloaded and I remember that taking time..

Thank you - I need to hear these things. I also didn't remember that we had to go through customs/immigration when we come back to the US.

Thank you!! I'm moving the car service pick-up. Good to hear that we COULD get off the ship at 7:30. I live in an international but small place - where everything is close and there are few delays. Being back in the US is going to be an adjustment!

I was on the Wish sailing 11/4-11/7 which was late getting into port due to a medical emergency and while they are not common it does happen and I would be leery of any flight before noon honestly. Not to mention many of us struggled to get there to the sailing on time as a major car accident caused massive delays from Orlando to port on 11/4. We were over an hour later than our boarding time and should have arrived actually 20-30 minutes early according the the GPS. Traffic can really be an issue.

MCO can be a nightmare with getting through security and if you have to check luggage that can take awhile as well. It might work but it will be tight and very stressful. I would do what you can to not need to do the stop at the hotel. I would express walk off and line up 30-40 minutes before it starts. For me it would be too much stress

MCO's website suggests being at the airport 3 hours before your flight.

For years Disney Cruise Line said no flights before Noon.

The Disney transportation buses from DW say 3 hours before flight time.

My own experience was almost missing a 12:35 pm flight despite being at the airport at 10:15 am. TSA was a mess and we literally walked right on our plane as it was already boarding when we got to the gate.

Based on the above, I would book a later flight.

Until this year most of our cruises have not been out of Canaveral so that is probably why it seemed unusual.

If it were me I’d move the car up about 15 minutes, forget the hotel stop and just bring all the luggage with you (whatever it saves you embarkation day will cost you double in stress the last day) and then do express walk-off. Should be fine to get to the airport in time and get through security then as long as you don’t make pitstops for food/stores/bathrooms until after you’re through security.

But it can move faster because people aren't removing jackets and shoes and taking out 3-1-1 bags.
I don't have it, but seem to get it about half the time when I fly. I don't know why. But the airports I most frequently travel through have pretty quick TSA. I didn't get it the last time I went through Orlando, but they were diverting regular TSA screenings over to TSA-Pre to speed things up.

To save time going through TSA at MCO, check out this free program. (Read about it in this forum).

Reserve by Clear. It gives you front of the line access to screening. Not combinable with Clear or Pre-check.
