What would you do?!?

We just cannot decide how to fly to Florida for our wedding/honeymoon!

The options are:

VA Economy (this worries me as I hear the LGW-MCO fleet is in bad shape.)

VA PE - An extra £800 which we could write off as an additional wedding cost, but it is a lot of honeymoon spending/hotel upgrade etc. etc. (We wouldn't go without anything on the honeymoon, but I can;t help thinking "£800 pays for half of our Floridian stay etc. etc.")

KLM/Delta via Detroit (economy) - did this in October, great flights, lovely planes, but a long journey.

VA economy. Save your money my love, and put it towards an experience, item or part of your wedding that will give you fantastic memories. A plane journey, good or bad, will soon be forgotten in the scheme of things :thumbsup2

What is putting you off VA economy? It's what we've always done and are fine with it but then I don't have anything else to compare it to.

Just reports on here about the planes being more uncomfortable than other economy seats. We flew VA economy to Vegas and LA and found it fine.

Sounds like a no-brainer to me! Go ahead and cover half your trip with the 800 saved by flighing Economy!

Sadly that's only half of 3 nights () out of our 21 night stay, but it is a big chunk o' cash.

Now its all written down it does seem a pretty obvious choice to make.

Compromise. VA economy on the way out and then, end it all of with a wonderful flight together in PE.

TBH I don't think there is a huge difference between PE and economy. Okay, the seats are a bit wider and you have a bit more legroom, but the food is the same. I personally find I am less critical on my way to a destination, full of anticipation, than I am on the return. You know how it goes - holiday is over so you just want to get back. If I upgrade only on one route, I always make sure it is on the return - especially since this is a night time flight and 40 winks would be great.

I'd personally not do the indirect one with it being with your wedding just in case anything goes wrong with the luggage if you have any stuff you need for the wedding :)

as for the VA flight, do what you can best afford. I've not had any problems with their economy except the tv was a bit dodgy on our return flight but they gave us £200 vouchers in compensation for that :)

:goodvibes

Thanks guys, VA E is looking good.

As long as we can get good rates for the return (we fly back during East hols) then that'll be us. :)

Going against the majority here - it is your honeymoon and I would say VA PE - it is great. We think it is worth the extra money and the service is Fab :cloud9:

We have often considered flying PE, but since seeing the premium seats that are located just in front of the most forward economy section we have decided to save our money, and spend it while over there.

Hi,

i wouldn't be worried about what was said in previous posts.
i think most people will be comparing them against the newer fleet that flys out of Heathrow (which are nicer, but as said newer)
I would fly Economy, once your on the plane you dont really care as long as you get there in one piece.
PE is a nice treat if your used to flying in economy, which a Wedding in my eyes would certainly qualify as a treat, but remember that once you fly PE you find it very hard to go back to economy (we do)

I think that's the trouble, I've flown a few different airlines in premium/Business/First so I always find Economy a bit more uncomfortable.

Sadly that was when my parents still paid for my flights, now it's on my bill I find it hard to part with the cash for what is essential 8 hours out of a 14/21 day trip.

I've only ever flown in the bubble so I can't speak for that but honestly, I ended up getting extra legroom seats once when there was no PE availability and it may just be me, but the flight was more comfy than the PE trips (!!??), food was the same, and the only difference was priority luggage collection/check in and no priority boarding. Re. the latter, we were right near the front on that flight and so we were boarded last - it suddenly made me wonder why anyone would see boarding a plane to sit on it for an extra half hour on an already 9hour flight :confused3.

Don't get me wrong, if I got a good price for an upgrade I would go for it, but at full price I don't know that I would do it.

Upgrading to Premium Economy with Virgin is worth the money, but is much better in the 'bubble', it's a totally different experience.
So much more room and the cabin crew seem more happier and because they only serve that upstairs section they are more responsive to your needs too.

Do you know I only found out a year ago that there are PE seats not in the bubble. I have always ended upstairs. How do they decide who gets the bubble and who gets the downstairs? Just curious what this is based on as I have never specifically requested it - didn't even know any differently (aside from wondering howcome there were so few PE seats :rotfl2:)

i would just ask when exactly is your butt going to appreciate the £800 you spent on it???
800£ would pay for alot of memories, DC, mickey at your wedding, amazing cake/flowers/dress...
sorry but i could justify £100 an hour on any chair.... jmho

It probably won't - but may start communicating with you via pins and needles after four hours .....:rotfl2:

It doesn't really make economic sense - but the thing is here, this is a wedding/honeymoon trip and different rules apply if you know what I mean. I can tell you what I would do here and now, but if it were my wedding I think I would be tempted to splurge a bit - at least on the homeward journey to end it off on a hight note.
