Iam currently planning a surprise 21st birthday trip for my daughter in August/September this year.

Ian planning on staying 3 nights in New York and then moving to Orlando and spending 5 nights at the Hard Rock Hotel & then 5 nights at the beach club.

My questions are has anyone ever used Delta to fly direct from Edinburgh to New York JFK and if so how was it and also does anyone have experience of flying between New York and Orlando and if so which carrier to use or avoid.

Can't help with the EDI to NY flight but we have done NY to Orlando several times. All of them will get you there quite happily. Most domestic flights you will have to pay for your checked bags so factor this in when comparing prices.

Our personal favourite is JetBlue. They have a really good seat pitch and in flight wifi which is free as well as decent selection of TV to watch.

We flew from Orlando to Atlanta with Southwest in August. Great flight (less than an hour 'door to door') and included one checked bag each, which was a real advantage (and money saver).

Thank you Elise79. I have heard other good reports on Jet Blue on another thread and think this is my front runner so far. All carriers seem to be coming out at much the same price for the domestic flight.

I would also consider a multi city itinerary to book all flights on the same ticket

chmurf thanks. I have looked at that but the price is much higher when I add in the domestic flight.

Another vote for JetBlue here, I did two flights with them last year. We had a problem on the second which was to do with a radio and they had us off that plane and onto another and away within an hour.
I don't know the price difference off the top of my head but they have tickets called 'more space' which not only gets you extra legroom, it gets you express through security (which I found to be worth every single penny at JFK) and first onto the plane (useful as everyone seems to have the max carry on and you can end up a long way from your bags - if this bothers you).

Domestically we've flown with American Airlines and Delta - pretty much the same.

Spirit sometimes has good prices if you join their $9 fare club, even when paying the membership

Thank you all for your replies.

I have taken the leap and booked the direct flight from Edinburgh to JFK with Delta and the return flight from MCO to Glasgow with Virgin. I have decided to book my JFK to MCO flight with JetBlue, the price seems good and I get a checked bag included in the price. I may add on the extra space option as it is only $30pp and includes priority boarding, prebooked seats, extra leg room and a speedy security check at JFK. They have a good selection of flight times too.

We're planning a 3 week trip with multiple internal flights for 2017. From research is seems that the flights are roughly the same prices, only increasing when the convenient time flights start to sell out.
