Flexible date question

My apologies if this question has been asked before. I couldn’t find it in a search of the forum.

Can the flexible cruise date be used to move funds from an upcoming cruise to a future booked cruise or does it have to be to a new reservation? I’m guessing a new reservation, but hopeful. We are booked on a February cruise, but with the latest announcement I don’t want to risk someone testing positive at the port. My youngest child is 3 so unable to be vaccinated.

We are at least a 15 hour drive from the port so it could be a bit rough to get home with a positive. We have a cruise booked in August, and I feel much better about it. I plan to call on Monday, but thought that I would check here though to see if anyone had encountered this situation.

When you modify a cruise under the flexible modification policy, it retains its original reservation number, and that is how they ensure any cancellation penalties in effect as of the date you move the cruise remain attached to the reservation (and since you are within 60 days of a February sail date, you are in the penalty phase). For that reason I would think you would not be able to add the funds from your cruise to a separate reservation number in August.

You could always cancel your August cruise since it does not have any penalties attached (assuming it is not Concierge) and immediately rebook the same room by moving your February reservation to August. But you would have to pay today's prices which may be higher than when you originally book the August cruise. And if your August cruise has FCC or a placeholder attached, you'd lose that.
