My daughter's 2nd grade class is doing the Flat Stanley project. She really wants her Stanley to go to Hollywood. I'm posting on this board in hopes that there are a lot of Californians here. Would a Los Angeles family like to host Stanley for a couple of days and show him around L.A. ?

I posted on a couple of other areas of the DISboards, but this seems like a good place to get to Cali!

Thanks!

LOVE Flat Stanley. We are in Northern California otherwise I'd love to show him around.

Our class will have 23 Stanleys traveling around. So if you'd like to host one, please PM me your address and we will put you on the list. That Stanley appears to be a popular guy. :)

I have no kids, so I have never heard of the flat Stanley project. Does oit havew anything to do with the Stanley Cup? Could someone please post an explaination, and maybe a photoi?

Have you ever seen pictures of a Roaming Gnome?

Flat Stanley is similiar. He is 2D paper and travels by mail and people record where he went and what he saw.

OP send me a PM if you want me to try to show Stanley some wildlife.

ooo I'd love to take a Stanley into the forests of Oregon and all along the Louis & Clark trail here :)

Sorry, I can't help with Hollywood, but I helped out another poster a year or two ago with her kiddo's Flat Stanley project. I took him to the zoo, the beach, and tanning at the pool down here in San Diego :) If you ever change your mind about the location, let me know!

It's a paper representation of the kid, sometimes full size on butcher paper or smaller cut outs of themselves, that get sent all over to experience places and events the kids may never get to do themselves. It's a real fun project based on the children's book 'Flat Stanley'.

My son's flat stanley once went to vegas with my parents. We have pictures with show girls and gambling. Not all the pictures were shown at school.

Thanks for all the offers! While my daughter really wants Stanley to get a picture with the Hollywood sign, there are 22 other Stanleys in the class that need a place to visit. They will be sharing all of his adventures as a class so if any of you are willing to host a Stanley, please PM me your address. I'm making a list of all the addresses and specific plans the hosts have for him to give to the teacher. She is so excited about this project and I really think it will help our small town kids see the whole big world out there. Thanks again. I knew the DISers would always help out!

If you still need it, I could give Stanley a nice tour of Hollywood. I'll PM you.

Ok, I tried to send you a PM but apparently my post count is too low to do that. So, anyway, I have done Flat Stanley pics in Hollywood twice already for my nieces so it would be no problem. PM me if you want my help.

I think if I post one more time, it'll let me respond to your PM...trying that now...

I don't care to sound like I just came out of a cave or something, but what or whom is a flat Stanley? I don't know the guy or whatever it or he is? Or is it a she?

Othwerwise commonly known as a school project.

I am sorry, maybe I am up past my bedtime, or something, but I still am not getting this concept, not entirely anyway. Paper? What is so interesting or exciting about that? Are there pictures somewhere that can show what this looks like or what? TIA

The actual "Stanley" is made of laminated paper, but that is not the exciting part. The exciting part for the host, is being able to show off the most exciting parts of their city or community to a 2nd grade class by taking "Stanley" there and getting pictures of him "doing" and "seeing" exciting things. For instance, if you were going to a 49ers game and you brought Stanley, it would be very exciting for a group of 2nd graders to see a picture of Stanley with a professional football game going on in the background. Really creative hosts would dress Stanley in paper or fabric 49ers clothing for the photo. It's a fun way to be creative and to show children different parts of the world and interesting new sights.
