Flags to be flown at half-mast UPDATED 9/13/2012 See post 8

[Disney Dreams]

I know this has been of some interest here on the Disneyland boards in the past when it has occurred.

Historically, U.S. flags on Disney properties are flown at half-staff in accordance with US Presidential Proclamations.

This proclamation is for August 31st and I would presume that Disney will be displaying U.S. flags accordingly.

DEATH OF NEIL ARMSTRONG

BY THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA

A PROCLAMATION

As a mark of respect for the memory of Neil Armstrong, I hereby order, by the authority vested in me by the Constitution and the laws of the United States of America, that on the day of his interment, the flag of the United States shall be flown at half-staff at the White House and upon all public buildings and grounds, at all military posts and naval stations, and on all naval vessels of the Federal Government in the District of Columbia and throughout the United States and its Territories and possessions until sunset on such day. I also direct that the flag shall be flown at half-staff for the same length of time at all United States embassies, legations, consular offices, and other facilities abroad, including all military facilities and naval vessels and stations.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand this twenty-seventh day of August, in the year of our Lord two thousand twelve, and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and thirty-seventh.

Do you ever have that moment where you know something, but for a second, you forget it?

So, I went to the Park for a bit this morning. I walked under the railroad and into Town Square. Ah, Disneyland. Main Street. Pretty. Music. People. Hey, the flag's a half-mast. Wonder why that - oh, wait, right. - pause for respectful moment. Whoah, they're all at half-mast. Well, of course they are. Nice tribute. And on the day of the night of a full moon -- somehow appropriate.

We were wondering (briefly) why flags were at half mast yesterday (here at home, not at DLR) and then my DH remembered it was Neil Armstrong's funeral.

Side note: I loved the family's press release. Instead of flowers, they asked that people, on the night of the full moon, go outside, think of Neil, and wink as he is looking down on us. (paraphrasing)

A PROCLAMATION

As a mark of respect for the memory of John Christopher Stevens, United States Ambassador to Libya, and American personnel killed in the senseless attack on our diplomatic facility in Benghazi, by the authority vested in me as President of the United States by the Constitution and the laws of the United States of America, I hereby order that the flag of the United States shall be flown at half-staff at the White House and upon all public buildings and grounds, at all military posts and naval stations, and on all naval vessels of the Federal Government in the District of Columbia and throughout the United States and its Territories and possessions until sunset, September 16, 2012.
