Flabbergasted in WDW ** 1st trip report!! All completed now :)

Okay, I should tell you that I have been over here laughing my heinie off reading your trip report. I feel like I was there with you and you are one funny chick! I am really enjoying it. I have only read up to message number six but I am having such fun I had to stop reading to come tell you THANKS!

:lmao:

Enjoying your report, but what you are saying about DLP is scaring me :scared: for my trip later this year.

Cass, take my description of DLP with a grain of salt. I never like anything french. When people ask me what they should do when they visit France, I always tell them to get to the nearest airport and go somewhere else.

DLP is small. And kind of dirty. But, the rides are fine. I could be wrong, but I think DLP was the first to have the Rock'n'Roller coaster.

If you have a car,you might want to give Parc Asterix a try. It's not Disney, but they do have some cool rides, and a different atmosphere.

Interesting trip report! You really travelled a long ways (and several time zones) so I wasn't surprised when you fell asleep on the plane and it wasn't even going anywhere! I did that a couple of years ago and the worst part was we had to pack everything up and switch planes because they decided the plane had a problem. I never fell back to sleep and I was exhausted after camping for a week!

Shame about the wrong bed size and door not working. We've had door problems too at WDW. I love your Eeyore picture - it's precious! And don't feel embarassed about riding in an ECV for your feet; that's better than making your feet worse by walking on them or not seeing things after traveling so far! Good report! :thumbsup2

That's exactly what DM said about the ECV. I didnt like being in it (though it got a lot better once I stopped bumping into every trash can on the way) and I was worried about the cost too. Then Grumpy pointed out that we paid €600 each for flights, and about $2500 for the rooms, tickets, and DDP..$35 didnt seem much after that, and at least I was able to enjoy everything.

Usually we have no problems with flights, but the last couple years have been so bad. I noticed that on the US Airways flights, they have 2 seats, then 4 seats, then 2 more. Usually it's 2,3,and 2. No one except kids were comfortable in that plane. Grumpy is about 4"11, and she could barely fit her legs in. The return trip was even worse.
I also noticed that ALL of our flights were completly full. I have a degree in tourism, and cant find work. Everyone keeps telling me that the tourism industry is doing soo bad, and people don't travel anymore, and that's why we now pay more and get less than before. Yet every flight we've been in since 2003 has been completly full. Go figure that one out!

Great trip report so far - it's always fun to read about a first timer's trip to WDW. :) Your report is helping me pass the time until our upcoming trip...only 8 days!! :thumbsup2 Glad you enjoyed the Lights at MGM - we thought they were just amazing when we saw them!

8 days !!! I'm so jealous. It hasnt even been a week since we came back, but I cant wait for our next trip. Glad you're enjoying my little TR :)

Loving your report AND your Avatar!!!

We need to start a petition and make them do a Rock'n'Roller with Bon Jovi !!! Or how about a character meal ?

I'm enjoying your tr! Isn't traveling with family fun????

Day 5: Epcot, POFQ and Magic Kingdom

January 1st. Happy New Year !
We were up early and finished packing, then I called Luggage Assistance for the 300th time and made sure we could leave our luggage in the room and they would come get it and transfer it to POFQ.. For the 300th time I was told yes, no problem, just let the front desk know.
Okiedokie.
Left 2 enveloppes on the table, one for housekeeping (I left one every morning) and one for the luggage people. OK let's go, I want to do Soarin' today!

First stop, the front desk to check out. It was raining a little, and we had packed all our sweaters. While Grumpy was waiting in line to check out, I went to the gift shop. We'd seen Grumpy hoodies in the parks that DM loved, but hadnt been able to find one for her yet, even at Mouse Gear. YES they had it in the gift shop !! $59.50, ouch, well, it's her birthday ...
I tried to find one with Stitch or Donald for myself, but they didnt have my pooh size :(

I joined Grumpy in the line and gave her the hoodie. She loved it and put it on right away. The line was going slow and we saw our luggage being taken to the storage room. OK that's good, at least they didnt forget.

We got a cool CM at the front desk who gave us "1st Trip" buttons, checked out reservations, and just chatted with us. I forgot her name, but she was from Puerto Rico. She said she was sad we were leaving, but she knew we'd love French Quarter. We told her about Everest, which she said was her favorite ride. Yep, ours too. Especially when we're not in it.
She told us we had 4 TS left, 2 CS, and 8 snacks !!! We only used snacks twice so far, both for fruit bowls at the food court. I wanted to save them for something "more expensive" and now we had 8 we had no idea what to do with.

We waited for the bus to Epcot. The first one was already almost full when it came (with Sports & Music guests). Standing room only. Not gonna happen, let's just wait for the next one. We let people cram themselves into that almost full bus, we're the only ones not going in. Well, about 15 seconds after that bus left, another Epcot bus came. EMPTY. We had the bus all to ourselves! The driver told us to go straight to The Land as soon as we got there - NO, really ? And here I was, hoping to get FPs for Maelstrom!!

There was a long line to get into Epcot, and we had a nice conversation with a family from the Midwest. I also spotted a few lime green Baggalinis in the crowd, but didnt have the guts to go ask their owners if they were DISers.

We went straight to the Land. I told Grumpy to wait for me while I got FPs for Soarin. Got them, and saw that the standby line was only 35mns. So I called her and told her to get her grumpy butt here right away, we were going to be able to do it twice!!

IMG_0697.jpg

The line went fast. We got to be in the 2nd row. I was soooo excited about this ride and LOVED IT ! It felt incredible, almost like if we were flying. My favorite part was the one above the ocean, and the fireworks at the end. Here's another ride when I couldnt stop myself from grinning the whole time. Just incredible. I was so happy to have FPs for seconds!

When we left the ride, Grumpy and I both agreed that this was the best ride we'd been on since we got here and that we couldnt wait to do it again. She went to the restrooms, and I bought her a Soarin' shirt. Hey, it's her birthday.

IMG_0699.jpg

She was thirsty, so we went to Sunshine Seasons for drinks. I told her to use our snack credits. They actually gave us 1 OJ and 1 Gatorade for only 1 snack credit. Nice. One down, 7 to go.

I saw "Living with the Land" was right next door, and there was a Fastpass thing. We had 20mns left before we could get FPs again, so we sipped our drinks and waited. When it was time, I went to get the FPs.. only to see that the machines were covered and the wait was only 10mns.

What else could we do ? Get more FPs for Soarin', of course!!!!

Already time to go, our ADR at Le Cellier is at noon and we have to go to Canada for that. I booked that meal for Grumpy, who loves steak, especially if it's still moooing in her plate. I thought I would just pay OOP for myself and get a salad, but we had 4 TS left that would expire tonight, so we had to use them.

On our way out, I took a photo of Grumpy proudly showing off her new Grumpy hoodie :

IMG_0704.jpg

The path to Le Cellier :

IMG_0715.jpg

Inside Le Cellier :

IMG_0728.jpg

Grumpy had the seasonal salmon and crab timbale appy, the petit filet - we asked for regular potatoes instead of mashed - and creme brulee. She wanted wine, but I asked her to get a smoothie too since it was included in the DDP. I had the mussels (without the cheese sauce), the stir-fry beef with noodles, Moose and sour apple drink.

My moose ! It was so cute, I couldnt eat its face. Just the antlers and tongue :)

IMG_0736.jpg

Grumpy said her steak was the best she's had in years, that it melted in her mouth, and that it took all she had not to lick the creme brulee dish.

IMG_0739.jpg

I liked the mussels, and the stir-fry was good too. My first time eating red meat for a couple years.
That lunch came up to $103 !!!!! Yikes !! Now this was definitely a good use of the DDP.

On our way out, they were doing a Le Cellier trivia and Grumpy won a little thing that said she was a Le Cellier Trivia Winner. She immediately pinned it on her shirt. We went to shop in Canada, I wanted a stuffed moose, and people in the shop congratulated her on her "win". We spent $70 on stuffed animals in that shop. My moose is so cute, it's wearing skis and a "Canada" hooded sweatshirt. I called him Moosell.
(Tried to take a pic of him, but I cant find my memory cards.. maybe later!)

After Le Cellier, we toured the World Showcase a bit, and took some pictures :

IMG_0757.jpg

It was about 2pm, and we wanted to use our Soarin' FPs and be at POFQ soon, since we had ADRs at MK that night and wanted time to relax a bit.

Back to The Land we went, and used our first set of FPs. This time was not as great as the first, maybe because we knew what to expect, and also because we were in the 3rd row and had dangling feet in front of us, and we could see the bottom of the screen. Still, it's Soarin, and we enjoyed it.

I convinced Grumpy to go check out Living with The Land, that had a 20mns wait. The line went really fast, I'd be surprised if we were in it for more than 10mns.

Living with the Land was a nice, quiet educational ride. I took a bunch of pics.

IMG_0766.jpg

IMG_0769.jpg

Check out this Mickey Head "Cinderella" pumpkin !!

IMG_0798.jpg

We then went to ride Soarin' for the 3rd time, and this time we got to be in the FRONT ROW ! No feet ! It was awesome. I could do Soarin' all day long and never get bored (note to self : try that next time!).

Time to take the bus to Port Orleans. Check in took a while, because.. drumroll.. they couldnt find our luggage. We'd left ASMO at 9am, and saw our luggage being stored, it was now 4pm and they hadnt transferred it yet.
We had hoped to change before going to MK tonight, but it didnt happen.
Instead, we took a nap in our new room.
Before we went, I stopped at the food court to use our remaining CS and snacks. They expired at midnight, and we'd be at Magic Kingdom then. I got a lot of drinks, rice crispie treats, and chips. They let me trade each CS for 3 snacks. Not a great deal, but better than leaving then unused.

We both said WOW when we got in our room. Toto, I don't think we're at All Stars anymore.

IMG_0805.jpg

YES ! TWO BEDS ! No more smelly-feet-snoring Grumpy, well not in my bed at least.

We waited, hoping to get our luggage before it was time to leave for MK. Next time we do a split stay, I'll remember to pack a change of clothes.

Off to MK we go, and straight to Liberty Tree for our ADR, with only a short stop to take a pic of the castle.

IMG_0811.jpg

We werent too excited about Liberty Tree. Still full from Le Cellier, we really didnt feel like eating again. But we had to use those TS.
It turned out to be my most favorite meal of the trip. Mostly because of Chip & Dale !!
The character interaction was awesome. Goofy put his head on mine, from behind me, and suddenly I had whiskers in my face. Of course, I SCREAMED. Goofy didnt expect it, and couldnt stop laughing. It took him a while to get his composure back. We took a zillion pictures with the characters.

Chip & Dale were awesome. Grumpy didnt know them, and said to me, "Oh look, twin rats!". Chip was very hurt and cried, so she apologized. The characters came to our table THREE times. Minnie was a little rushed the first time, but better after that. Maybe she just had to go to the bathroom really bad.
Chip & Dale stole the show. I instantly regretted not booking Garden Grill. Next time, for sure.
Our waitress was Samira, and she was super nice. The food was OK. I didnt touch the meat, but Grumpy said it was good. The green beans, mashed potatoes & mac'n'cheese were my favorite food of the trip (I know, such finesse!). Grumpy liked the dessert (apple cobbler) and ate mine too.

IMG_0833.jpg

After dinner, we had time before SpectroMagic. Country Bear Jamboree was a walk-on, so I suggested we go in.
I didnt have high expectations. I knew it was going to be lame. But I couldnt have imagined that level of lameness. We were cracking up, it was so bad. Oh I'm sure little kids like it. And it was better than doing nothing. That's about it.

(I have to break this post in 2 because there are too many images)

Day 5, Part 2 !! Spectro and Wishes

On the way out, I stopped at a candy place (sorry, don't know what it's called, but it's in Liberty Square) and bought some character candy, Stitch things, and a huge Princess lollipop for my niece. She's not actually my niece, but my sister's girlfriend's sister's daughter - try that one three times, real fast! Her name is Maeva. She's five years old, and just lost her dad in March. He was only 37, and a had a heart attack at work - the same place her mom works at, and she hasnt been able to go back since.
They never had a lot of money, and definitely not any to spend on Princess things. Soon, when her mom feels better, I would like to take her & Maeva to WDW. This kid needs some magic.

Back to that night. It was almost time for Spectromagic. We found a space near the bridge. This was really great, however my night pics stink. I took 60 pics, and only a few came out okay.

IMG_0892.jpg

This next one is my favorite of Spectro :

IMG_0897.jpg

IMG_0902.jpg

IMG_0913.jpg

After they took the ropes off, we crossed the bridge and went to get a space to see Wishes in front of the castle. Another thing that had me wide-eyed for 20mns. Right before the show started, the guy in front of us put his little girl on his shoulders. At first, it bugged me. But when I saw our pics, I thought this actually made the photos better ! The little girl had mouse ears on, and it almost look like Mickey himself is watching the show.
Grumpy didnt want to watch. She'd seen the fireworks from the Poly, she said, and they werent any good. I told her they will be a million times better from here, and if she doesnt want to stay, she can go back to the resort by herself, because I'm not going anywhere.
She sulked. Then Tinkerbell flew over us, and Grumpy joined me in Flabbergast World.

We'd had a long day, so after the fireworks we didnt stay for EMH and just went back to POFQ. I took this photo when we left the park. This will be our last one of Magic Kingdom this trip ! Even though we didnt do any rides, this was my favorite night at MK.

IMG_0962.jpg

That's all for January 1st :) Tomorrow, a quiet, rainy and cold day at the Lake Buena Vista Outlets and Epcot.

Oh yeah.. when we got back to our room, guess what was NOT there ? Our luggage !
GRRRRRRRRRRRR !!!!!!!!

marivaid - this is great!! I'm all caught up and loving it!! :thumbsup2

One of your favourite TR writers??!! :woohoo: THANK you so much!!!

My mom tried to take a photo with us but couldnt figure how to use the camera, so I said something like "you suck" to her and Tigger hit me on the head!

:lmao:

I took all my Fantasmic photos in "Foliage" mode

You're killing me here. :rotfl2: Hey, looks like it came in handy though.....
IMG_0766.jpg

:lmao:

I'm so glad I'm not alone in my EE experience. :teeth: I read people on these boards saying EE is fine and it's not scary and I truly wonder what planet they're on. ;)

Chip and Dale are the best! We didn't know a lot about them either before our 1st trip but they are just the funniest characters and we made sure to meet them repeatedly on this trip. Even my 12 year old had tears in his eyes from laughing at them!

Oh, and Soarin' - isn't it amazing!! We loved it too!

Can't wait for more!! :)

Day 6 : Shopping, Sleeping and Epcot

We woke up around 8. Still no luggage.
There's something about waking up in questionable underwear that makes me become nasty. I picked up the phone, called luggage services for the SEVENTH time since yesterday, and told them that if I didnt have my luggage in 15mns in my room, I would come get it myself, and since I had no clothes to change into, it wouldnt be pretty.

Looks like I scared them enough, because 5mns later there was a knock on our door. I tipped the guy $10, he apologized, I told him no problem it's here now and that's what matters Happy New Year blah blah blah. Happy New Year, Clean Underwear !!!

The weather was crappy today. Rainy, cold, and just blah. We wanted to take the boat to Downtown Disney, and walked to the dock; it was barely 10, and the first boat was at 11am. So we decided to go to Lake Buena Vista Outlets instead.
Our cab driver was silent for the whole ride. I'm not going to vent again, but the cab drivers at WDW really stunk.

Grumpy at the boat dock this morning :

IMG_0967.jpg

The Lake Buena Outlets are pretty cool. Less "flashy" than the Premiums or Prime Outlets (formerly Belz), but they had good deals. We found shirts at $7 at Aeropostale, buy-one-get-one-half-off sneakers at Reebok, $9 sweaters at Gap for dad... we only were there for 2 hours, but found presents for everyone - including ourselves

We got back to POFQ, thinking we'd take a "short" nap and go to Boma. We got some chicken strips at the food court before going back to our room. We both fell asleep. Grumpy woke up before me, and gave the pool a try, but it was chilly she said, and she only went for a few minutes. Me ? I slept 'til 5pm.

Neither of us wanted to go to Boma, so I called and canceled. I didnt want to stay in, though, I already felt bad about staying in for NYE. So I asked Grumpy if she'd like to see Fantasmic or Illuminations again; she chose Illuminations, because we had been so trampled at Fantasmic, plus she didnt like MGM. So Epcot it was - again. Remember this is the woman who didn't even want to go to Epcot ONCE because it was going to be boring !!!

Tree Top Thingy :

IMG_0977.jpg

No ECV for me tonight. I felt fine, and didnt want to spend $35 to use the thing for an hour. I felt so good, actually, that we walked all around the World Showcase. Grumpy spotted a wine shop in Italy, and went in to see if she could have a glass of wine to go. Yes, she could. So, she got two :)

We had to buy her a poncho, because it was still raining (I bought one the day before in Canada and strangely enough, remembered to take it). It was also VERY cold, I dont remember ever being this cold in Florida.
I sent Grumpy to get us coffee and found a bench facing the Lagoon, somewhere between America and Italy. There was only 1 person with me then, a man who was holding a sleeping toddler. He told me to push the bench as close as possible to the railing (fence?) because once the show started, people would not hesitate to stand right in front of us.
He was right !I saw people doing it at the Mexican CS the other night.

IMG_0986.jpg

Grumpy took forever to come back to get "coffee". She bought popcorn, pretzels and hot chocolate, but forgot my coffee. I can't drink chocolate because of the milk in it. Oh well, no biggie, the pretzel was hot and good.

We waited about an hour for Illuminations to begin. It was beautiful. I think I liked it better from Mexico, because we could feel the fire, and this time it was too far. We had a much better view of the Globe though.
This Illuminations was a little different from the first one, they didnt do any of the "Peace on Earth" stuff when all the countries light up and say Peace on Earth in their languages. Does anyone know if that was the special Holiday Illuminations, and was it the same as the one they had on NYE ?

A few pics.. sorry about the fence :) I didnt want to stand up and block the view for the people standing behind us.

Tomorrow is our last full day at WDW :sad2: :sad1:
And Grumpy's Birthday !!! :dance3:

It's Grumpy's Birthday!!!!

Day 7 : Grumpy's Birthday ! Chef Mickey's, Epcot, Spoodles and La Nouba

Stitch woke us up at 6am. Gawddd I love Stitch, but not at 6. I really hope no one listens or records these calls, because I told my favorite fluffy alien to shut the **** up and let me sleep !!!

Had to get up though. We had ADRs for 7.50 at Chef Mickey's. At 7, as soon as Disney Dining opened, I called to make sure that they had it on the reservation that it was for a birthday. They didnt, but I was able to add it.

Got ready - mom wore her Grumpy T-Shirt and Grumpy hoodie, it was Grumpy Overload - and got a cab to Contemporary. This is when we had the "special" driver who was boasting about the previous night with his girlfriend. I swear, I tried not to listen, but then it got interesting. Creole is a little different than French, so I didnt understand every word, but I definitely got a general idea.
Au revoir, et bonne chance ce soir !!!
Man,I regret not turning around and taking a look at his face.

Off we go to Chef Mickey's floor. The sun was just coming up, and I took a pic. Contemporary definitely looks better from the inside. I wouldnt mind giving it a try someday - actually we had decided to come here next time, but that was before we saw the Poly from the front entrance.

IMG_1035.jpg

We got to CM, checked in, and they wished Happy Birthday to Grumpy. They were taking pictures there, but no one on this earth is going to take a pic of me before 10am. Especially not without a character to take the focus away from me.

Inside Chef Mickey's

IMG_1041.jpg

The characters came in very fast !

IMG_1042.jpg

IMG_1069.jpg

We'd been there for a while and they already had 2 "celebrations" where we all twisted our napkins in the air, but nothing for Grumpy. I asked our server if they were doing it only for the kids, and she said no it's for everybody, she checked our reservation and while it mentionned the birthday on the reservation, it didnt say anything on the little paper she was given. She told us to just give it a few minutes and not go anywhere.

A few minutes later Grumpy got her special placemat, and birthday button. And a little later, they did the napkin thing again, and she was brought a special cupcake, and the characters came back for hugs and pictures. She normally doesnt like being the center of attention like that but she LOVED it. And I got to admit, I was a little jealous. My birthday was in November, and I didnt want to celebrate it almost 2 months late, but it sure looked like fun.

IMG_1083.jpg

Chef Mickey's is a really nice breakfast. The food was better at Donald's Breakfastausorus though. LOTS of junk food at CM!! I was jealous of my mom's special things, so I ate a lot of "bad" things : chocolate croissant, donut, gummy worms... popcorn::
but they had healthy things too.

We made a stop at the Contemporary gift shop, which was much better than POFQ's, and bought shirts, a Grumpy tie for dad, and some Mickey head hair things that I wanted to wear right away.

Today Grumpy's motto was "It's my birthday!". So, because of that, she was allowed to :

- Eat 3 donuts at breakfast.
- "Steal" some cookies and gummy worms from CM.
- Spend $120 on shirts she'll never wear (you cant exactly go teach high school in a Mickey shirt).

Hey, it's fine by me. As long as she's having fun !

Off to Epcot we go. We took the monorail, and the ride from the TTC to Epcot was nice, it's pretty cool to be above all the crowd and check out Epcot from above.

We stopped at Soarin' to get FPs, but they were for 3pm and I didnt think we'd get the chance to use them. Today is a beautiful day, and Grumpy would like to enjoy the pool. Our ADR tonight is VERY early, 5.40, so we have to be back at POFQ by 3 if she wants to have time to swim.

Beautiful day at Epcot :

IMG_1097.jpg

IMG_1148.jpg

We went to the Living Seas, there was a queue and we joined in, not sure where we were going. I was in the ECV again, because we'd had to wait 40mns for a bus to POFQ last night and I was hurting again :(

IMG_1099.jpg

IMG_1102.jpg

Let me tell you, once we got inside the building in the "snake" queue, I wished I could throw that damn thing away.
It was like Test Track, in slow motion. Finally we made it. And we knew where we were - the Nemo ride.

It was cutesy. Nothing phenomenal, but sweet. I took a pic of the boat, but it was very dark inside and we were not allowed flash photography.

IMG_1106.jpg

After Nemo, we waited to see Turtle Talk with Crush. This was HILARIOUS !!!!
All day we kept saying, "Awesssssommme , DUDE!"

Journey to Imagination was down, so we went to World Showcase instead. Just walking / riding around. I wanted to pick some pearls in Japan, so that's where we went. They had a million Hello Kitty things in the shop, and it was hard to resist, but we didnt have much space left in our bags and we have a ton of HK stuff at home already (our whole bathroom is Hello Kitty - in pink and purple, so girly that my dad feels uncomfortable taking a shower!!).

Some World Showcase pictures :

I have no idea where / what this is :

Shop in Morocco :

IMG_1124.jpg

View from Morocco (I think):

IMG_1129.jpg

At some point we reached Japan and picked our pearls. We both got small, but pretty ones. Mine was a light champagne with green tones, and Grumpy's had pink tones. We both got a cheap silver setting, and we'll find chains at home. Grumpy wore hers at school today, and her friends asked her where she got it - right from the oyster, she said!!!

... More in the next post...

Day 7 - Part 2
After Japan, we wanted to do the American Adventure. We got there just in time to listen to the singers. It was beautiful !!! We also saw people in costumes outside, I'm not sure what exactly they were doing, some sort of rendition, it was beautiful and we enjoyed it.

IMG_1132.jpg

Now, I gotta put my flame suit on.. If I can find it. Is that it ? :furious:

Okay.First, let me say that American Adventure is beautiful. The theater is absolutely breathtaking, the whole pavillion is. The singers are wonderful.
But the movie... now, I'm very sorry, but this is selective history at its best.

Obviously, there are little kids in the audience, so I understand why they dont show you photos of slaves being tortured, or the indian massacre.
I guess it's mostly due to the recent events, but this just annoyed me.
I liked it, but I couldnt help but think of all the "little" things that somehow got forgotten in this movie. I havent seen any of the other movies in WS, but I guess they're probably all this way - more good than bad. Which is probably a good thing.
It was a beautiful tribute to a great country. Maybe they can add 9-11 someday, but I think it's too soon for that unless they want people coming out of the show bawling.

Off the soapbox. Flame suit off.

We finished our tour of the World Showcase, stopping at Mexico for a Margarita. Donald was there, in a Sombrero, signing autographs and taking pics. The line was short, but I didnt feel like waiting in it, since we'd just seen Donald at CM.

IMG_1142.jpg

Grumpy with her Margarita :

IMG_1144.jpg

We left Epcot, and went to POFQ to finish packing and for Grumpy to enjoy the pool. We only had about an hour & a half before we had to go to the Boardwalk. All the Christmas decorations were down, and the alligators were out now !

IMG_1149.jpg

A surprise was waiting for us in our room. The cutest little towel animal ! Actually, it looked like a bunny mom with her baby bunny.

Is that cute, or what?

I managed to fit all that we bought in our bags, and there was space left... what does that mean ? More SHOPPING of course !!! Tonight at DTD if we have time, or tomorrow morning at the Poly before we leave.

Grumpy came back from her swim, changed, and we took a cab to the Boardwalk. It was beautiful.

IMG_1165.jpg

We had to go through the Boardwalk Inn to get to Spoodles, and my oh my, this is one fancy hotel. I would love to try it someday, especially since it's close to Epcot, which turned out to be our favorite park.

IMG_1167.jpg

We found Spoodles, checked in. We were shown to a booth in the back. Our waiter came soon after, and this guy was a HOOT. If you go to Spoodles, you have GOT to ask for Wayne. He started joking with us, and we joked back, soon we couldnt stop. He spoke French and German to us, and asked me if I spoke Spanish. You bet I do. CHIHUAHUA!

Since we werent on the dining plan anymore, and didnt feel like a big meal (it was so early), we got several appys to share. My mom loves greek food, she got the kebabs and mediterannean dips; I got the four-cheese flatbread and calamari. While Grumpy loved her food, I didnt care for mine. There was too much goat cheese in the flatbread and I only had 2 pieces of it before giving up; the small pieces of calamari were good - especially with the marinara sauce that Wayne brought me - but the big pieces I couldnt make myself eat. See, I like calamari when I'm not reminded of what it is. Once I saw the purple thingies coming out of the big pieces, I was done.
They also brought us rosemary bread with a dipping sauce that was delicious.

Grumpy loved her sangria.

And we both loved Wayne !

IMG_1176.jpg

They brought Grumpy the birthday cake I had ordered, it was very good for chocolate cake. I offered a piece to Wayne, who said he wasnt allowed to eat it in the restaurant :(

It was raining when we got out,and we didnt have ponchos on, so we got a little soaked. I had to take this pic of the Boardwalk Inn all lighted up.

We took the bus to Downtown Disney. It was pouring outside. We decided not to stop at the Marketplace, and take the bus to the Pleasure Island stop instead. Then we walked to La Nouba.

I'm not really a circus person, but this looked to be really different. And to be honest, I didnt know what else to do for Grumpy's birthday. It was supposed to be a surprise, but I spilled the beans a long time ago. Still, she was happy. We had seats 1 and 2 in row AA, section 203. Right at the front. A few times during the show, the performers came right in front of us !

I have mixed feelings about Cirque. Some parts were breathtaking (the chinese little girls!), some parts were boring (the guys on their bikes). I loved the guys in white. It was beautiful, but some parts were too long. I dozed off during the red ribbon part. I dont regret going, Grumpy really liked it, but after an hour & a half, I was kind of glad it was over.

It's funny, because what I liked best (aside from the chinese girls) was the music, and that's the part that Grumpy disliked the most. We both didnt care for the bike guys. There definitely was a story behind the show, but I didnt get it at all. Still, it was very pretty and entertaining.

I was sooo tired that I dont even remember taking the bus back to POFQ. When we got to our room, I crashed, but Grumpy went to the hot tub. She had met people there the night before and she wanted to chat with them again.

This was a great day, our last full day at WDW for now. I was pretty happy with myself, because I had picked everything for this day to make it special for Grumpy, and it was a big success!

Tomorrow is "my" morning - something I've been looking forward to for over 2 months - our breakfast at the Polynesian with STITCH !!!!!!!

:stitch: :stitch2:

I'm so glad I'm not alone in my EE experience. :teeth: I read people on these boards saying EE is fine and it's not scary and I truly wonder what planet they're on. ;)

Chip and Dale are the best! We didn't know a lot about them either before our 1st trip but they are just the funniest characters and we made sure to meet them repeatedly on this trip. Even my 12 year old had tears in his eyes from laughing at them!

Oh, and Soarin' - isn't it amazing!! We loved it too!

Can't wait for more!! :)

Everest is EVIL. Point, blank. It can possibly come in handy if you need to inherit fast, but that's the only positive thing I can come up with.

Stitch is my favorite character, but Chip&Dale are a close second. I haven't actually seen them in a Disney movie or cartoon yet, does anyone know where they came from ?

Soarin. Oh my goodness. The feelings, the smells especially the orange trees.. I cant believe some people on the DIS called it BORING!

Day 8 - Stitch, Stitch, Stitch !!!!

Remember how I said we werent impressed by the Poly the first time we went ? Well that changed today.
We got there around 7.15 for our 7.30 ADR with my favorite alien Stitch

(By the way, that's the day we realized that the clock in our room was 20mns early - good to know, too bad we didnt figure it out until our last day!).

The restaurant wasnt open yet, so we waited and looked around the Grand Ceremonial House. Wow.. now THAT is what I call a resort. The whole time we were at ASMO, I felt very weird calling it a "resort". It's a motel. With a big construction site in the middle. ;)

But the Poly. My, oh, my. That's the one, we both decided that morning, we want to go here next time. Forget the Contemporary, I want THE POLY !!

Soon it was time to check in. Our waitress brought us juice - I loved that juice. Don't know what they put in it, but it's GOOD! She also brought us a dish of fruits, a basket of pineapple bread, and the breakfast skillet. Everything was very good, but I couldnt have cared less. I would have been fine if she'd thrown a Pop-Tart on our table. Because, you know who was coming ???

Here's a hint. He's vile, he's foul, he's flawed...
and also CUTE and FLUFFY !!!

IMG_1220.jpg

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that yesterday in Epcot, I saw a kid with Stitch ears. Now that I *had* to have, right now. Found them in Mouse Gear, and I of course wore them this morning to see Stitch.

When he saw me with my Stitch ears, he ran to our table, touched my (fake) ears and clapped. It was just so cute ! Even cuter than Chip & Dale.

I even let Grumpy take a pic of me with Stitch, unfortunately she's an even worse photographer than me, and I cant even tell where we are in the pic :(

The CM on the phone had noted that it was Grumpy's birthday, even though technically it was yesterday, and she was presented with a lei, and a card signed by all the characters. A surprise for her, she didnt expect anything.

IMG_1224.jpg

Aside from Stitch, there was also Lilo, Pluto, and Mickey. All very sweet. It seems like we got the best character interaction when we booked the earliest times. This time, the characters came to our table four times !
Grumpy even danced the hula with Pluto.

IMG_1209.jpg

I thought the Lilo character looked a little freaky. Probably because she is the only "human" character who has a full costume, the others dont have anything covering their heads.

Once the place got filled up a little, we were handed maracas and asked to be in the parade. I declined, but Grumpy was all for it !

IMG_1226.jpg

IMG_1232.jpg

When she was in the parade though, she got a little self conscious. There was a little boy by himself in front of her so she "borrowed" him and pretended she was just a mom who got in the parade with a little boy ! Shame on you Grumpy !!!

We left soon after, I made a quick stop at the gift shop upstairs to pick up a few things I hadnt bought before (Stitch earrings, Princess coloring books for Maeva, and Chip & Dale stuffed toys).
Grumpy went into the Tiki shop downstairs to get Hawaian shirt for dad. I took a few pics of the lobby - everything was really pretty.

One last picture outside.. until next time !!

We just had time to go back our rooms, get Luggage Assistance to come get our stuff, and soon we were on the Magical Express back to the airport :sad1:

It was less Magical on the way out. We made 4 stops, and made it to MCO with only an hour & a half to spare. Our flight was at 2.30, and we got to the gate at 2.10. Definitely no time to shop like it said on the ME video !

The flight back home was horrible. We were separated, the seats seemed even smaller than on the way in. We were stuck on the ground in Philly for almost 2 hours. But I don't want to think about that.

Our week at DISNEY was fabulous, so much better that I could ever imagine. So great, that we are already thinking about booking the next trip. Normally, we should be back with the Mouse on July 7th.

What will I do differently ?

- Plan less. Besides ADRs, we didnt really follow my itinerary at all.
- Worry less. I was really worried about the crowds, in fact it wasnt bad at all. Sure, the biggest attractions were hard to get into, but we're not really into the thrill rides, and with FastPass, it can be done.
- Take more pics. I took over 700, but they dont even come close to showing all we've done.
- Go into each pavilion in Epcot. We only walked around WS, except for America we didnt actually visit any of the countries.
- Do MGM. All we did was Fantasmic.
- No dining plan. Especially in warmer months. We never ate all we were "allowed" to, and even though we probably didnt lose money, it's just not for us. What we liked best were the character breakfasts, and it's not a good use of the plan.

I think, all in all, as first timers we did pretty darn good. We got to do Soarin' three times. We saw all the characters we wanted. Even though we never made it to an EMH morning (unless you count those 10mns at AK), we got to do the rides we wanted without waiting too much.

Thanks to the DIS, I knew more or less what to expect, thanks to the UG I knew which attractions to do first, thanks to TGM I knew which parks to avoid on which days.

Now that this TR is completed, I can go back to planning our next trip ! To Poly, or not to Poly ??

She's not actually my niece, but my sister's girlfriend's sister's daughter - try that one three times, real fast! Her name is Maeva. She's five years old, and just lost her dad in March. He was only 37, and a had a heart attack at work - the same place her mom works at, and she hasnt been able to go back since.
They never had a lot of money, and definitely not any to spend on Princess things. Soon, when her mom feels better, I would like to take her & Maeva to WDW. This kid needs some magic.

I WAS just lurking... enjoying your TR... but not going to post. Then I got to this and started bawling. You're such a nice person... I'mnot sure what else to say. :goodvibes

You're DONE?!? But I haven't even had a chance to READ it all yet! I'm half-way through and I'm hooked already! Thanks so much for all your hard work in writing this TR! I think you did great for your first trip to WDW!!! I'm so glad you're planning another one, because then you'll have to write another trip report for us! :thumbsup2

Take care,
-Michelle

I loved your TR - can't believe it's finished already.

We didn't receive any "first trip" pins - I'm jealous :(

I'm sorry to hear about the passing of your friends hubby. That is much too young. Your poor little niece does deserve some magic and I truly hope you can make it happen for her. What a nice thing to do.

Grumpy's hoody looks great!

Thanks for sharing your trip marivaid! I really enjoyed it.

Aww.. I didnt mean to make you bawl.Honestly I think anyone would do the same. Disney's THE place for kids and I'd like her to experience that.

Thank you :) They gave us that 1st Trip pin when we checked out of ASMO She had a zillion of them at the front desk, so if anyone wants one, try asking the front desk! I noticed them in the parks before we got one, but didnt know where they came from.
