i wanted to post this again so that the word is out there, help save a life this New Years!! I work in road service and take these calls - it is great that people are taking advantage of this. It is FREE!!! So dont be ashamed, all AAA asks for is a name (real or not) and where to come get you and your vehicle!!

AAA Auto Club South and Budweiser are once again offering the “Tow to Go” program this holiday season. If you are not familiar with the program, here is how it works:

The program offers adults who have had too much to drink a free ride home and a free tow of their vehicle. The program begins Nov. 25, 2002 and runs through New Year’s Day, 2003. Tow to Go will be available throughout the entire state of Florida, the metro Atlanta area and Nashville.

The Tow to Go program has shown tremendous progress in its first two years of operation. Starting with 118 safe rides home when introduced in five central Florida counties in 2000, last year’s program provided 1,162 safe rides throughout the state of Florida and Atlanta. That’s 1,162 potential drunk drivers that AAA and Budweiser helped keep of the roads during the holiday season. This year, with the program expanding to Nashville, our goal is to provide at lease 1,750 safe rides to motorists.

Tow to Go is very simple to use. Adults who need a ride home from bars or restaurants this holiday season can simply call 1-800-AAA-HELP. AAA will dispatch a tow truck and will take both the driver and the vehicle home, free of charge. This service is available to everyone — both AAA members and non-members.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, drunk-driving fatalities have declined 25 percent since 1990. Initiatives such as Tow to Go and Budweiser’s “Designated Driver” program can help to keep this trend going in the right direction.

Press conferences to help officially kick-off the program will be held in Orlando, West Palm Beach, Miami, Tallahassee, Atlanta and Nashville.</font>

What a great program! I hope that lots more people take advantage of it this year.

Thats a great program. Thanks for the reminder. :)

277 calls so far for the western part of FL - From Gainesville south to Naples (about 1/4 of the state is handled by my call center). Not too bad! :)

There is a big article on the front page of our local paper called Call a Cop. The police are asking that if you think you can't drive to call and they will take you home, no questions asked. They just don't want you driving.

This is a wonderful program. I wish they had one like this in Michigan.
