One whole year of marriage is coming up November 8th!

It has been a competely crazy first year of marriage...beginning with our honeymoon - while my DH and I were in Cancun, our house had a horrible fire in it and we lost our 2 cats and our pet chinchilla....and almost all of our possessions... :(

So - of course we had to deal with that and we are finally back home. They had to completely regut the entire house - they could only use the frame of the house...
My DD10 is doing really well now - she still gets really sad about losing our pets. We got 2 new kitties and they have been a joy. One of them is below in my sig.

Anyway! My DH is wonderful and the point to this thread is to ask for ideas of what I can do for our First Anniversary!

I know there are tons of creative and romantic people here....Ideas please!! :teeth:

Congratulations on your first year.

My DH did something incredibly romantic for me on our first year...because it was a "paper" year, he put together an amateur scrapbook of all our dating/wedding/honeymoon/marriage memories.

I thought that was very creative and extremely romantic. I absolutely loved how much time it took him to compile all of our memories. He put a lot of love into it. I was so touched!

Surprise him with a paper ticket to Disney... Oh wait, that would be my dream of a gift!

How about a babysitter for your DD and a weekend away someplace?

Good ideas..

Well..we are going to Disneyworld in two weeks - not for our anniversary - but because we want to :)

Any other ideas?

For our first anniversary....paper.....DH bought and planted a tree in the yard....tree=paper.....it's a nice reminder to see how much the tree and the marriage has grown over the past 14 years

For our first anniversary, I baked a replacement cake topper. I heard that tradition was to eat a piece of saved cake from the wedding...only problem was that our guests ate everything! (We didn't do a traditional cake, but a series of cakes, all different flavors).

So I made an Italian cream cake (love cream cheese frosting), and did my best to decorate it similar to the wedding cakes. It was a bit sad, but also kind of funny, and it still tasted great. DH did his part by grilling up some great steaks for dinner.

And we ate on the china we received from wedding guests.

So nothing too elaborate, but it was definitely memorable.

My wife and I kind of got into the habit, on our first anniversary, of always trying to buy something that had to do with the "traditional" gift for that year. The first year is paper, and she got me a gorgeous, framed print from one of my favorite artists...and I got her printed tickets to see her favorite show when it was coming near us. Each year, we've tried to get something that reflected the "traditional" gift.

You can check the traditional gift list at Hallmark's webpage (just search for traditional anniversary gift).

I like the idea of art. My DH does love art!

Any more suggestions?

That's what I gave my DH! Annual passes! :teeth:

He gave me some children's books for my collection and a paper hotel key for a romantic night away! :)

We *always* do the traditional gifts. It's really fun to try to find just the right thing to fit the theme.

Paper....

--tickets to Disney, a concert, some performance (hopefully something nice and romantic!)

--art....something by a favorite artist, pictures of a favorite place or someplace or something special to the 2 of you

--I LOVE the scrapbook idea mentioned above! Our first anniversary was before I started scrapbooking, but I've made several for DH since then, and they always make him cry! :)

--a first edition of a favorite book, or send off a book to the author to have it signed

--commission a local artist to do a drawing of your house....to commemorate your anniversary, and celebrate your house and lives getting back to normal

--get your pictures made...of the whole family....with a letter saying how much you're glad he's a part of it and tell him all the things you love best about him

--there are just so many possibilities!

Good luck deciding!!
