Welcome to my first trip report!! To give you a little background, I am 30 years old, DH is 37 years old, and we have a one year old little prince. DH and I have both been to Disneyworld in the past, but this was our first trip together. More importantly, this was our first trip ever ALONE. So, here goes:

Day One: Is it broken?

Today, we are scheduled to leave around 12pm, and I'm taking 1/2 day off from work. DH has the entire day off from work, and my dad (proud grandpa) is coming to pick up our little son. But, I don't wanna work 1/2 the day!!! I'm too excited!! And, I want to make sure that my dad gets ALL of my son's things in the car. And, I want to be there to double check the car sea and give my son hugs and kisses at least 3 or 4 times before he leaves. Well, it's a good thing that I have a flexible work schedule. So, what the heck, I call and ask if I can take a full day of vacation instead of 1/2 day. My supervisor says, "No problem! I've got you down for a full day. Have fun!" Lemme just say, man, I love my supervisor...I'm a lucky employee. You'll see just how lucky I am later on. Really, he's a great guy, and I promise he's not reading this (that I know of), so my praise is genuine. :rotfl: So, DH packs our car. We also packed Granddad's car and got in a weeks worth of hugs and kisses from our little one. Now, we're off....YAY! DH and I are alone in the car. So, being the obsessive planner that I am, I review the day's schedule with him. It's easy-we drive down and have dinner reservations at Liberty Tree Tavern at 6:20pm. Then, we have tickets for the P&P party at the MK that night. So, the drive down was fairly uneventful. We listened to the first Harry Potter book on tape on the way down, and this made the drive/ride go quickly. Of course, as soon as we hit Orlando around 5:30pm, it starts to rain. Not just rain, but thunder and lightening. Now, when it rains here in Atlanta, people literally forget how to drive. They don't just slow down. I think they start to drive with their feet or something. It's ridiculous. Well, Orlando must be the same way. We saw two accidents, and I4 was just inching along. DH and I debated-Do we go to our hotel first (we stayed off sight the first night), or do we go straight to MK? We decided that there really wasn't time to go by the hotel. I called the hotel and let them know we would check in after midnight. No problem. We sat on I4 for another 40 min. So, I called Liberty Tree and amazingly was able to move our ressie back to 7:30pm. YAY! We arrived at the MK around 7pm. We immediately purchased ponchos, put them on, and joined the sea of clear WDW ponchos in front of us. Most people were leaving MK, but we were going in. YAY again! I don't mind seeing the parks in the rain, especially if it means the crowds will be lighter. Well, since we had been in the car for so long, DH says, "I need to run to the restroom as soon as we get into the MK." "Ok, there's a restroom outside of City Hall." I said. So, we get in to the park and have our first look at Main Street. I LOVE this part of my Disneyworld vacations-the first glimpse of Main Street with the castle beyond. Even in the rain, it's magical. I walk DH over to City Hall. We still have 20 min to make our ressies at Liberty Tree-plenty of time. I tell DH that I will wait under the awning outside of City Hall while he goes to the restroom. "OK" he says and sets off. I just relaxed and gazed out at Main Street and put my "vacation/Disney brain" on. Ahhhhhhhhh......Disneyworld. I'm here on my first trip alone with DH, and we're going to have a great time!! About 10 seconds later DH walks up to me with a CM. He's holding his right arm. I was confused. I looked at the CM and back at DH. "What's wrong?" I asked. The CM told me that DH slipped on the wet stairs. DH tells me he fell on his arm, and he holds his arm up for me to see. He had two deep gashes in his arm, and his arm was a bit swollen. "Ouch." I said. "Are you ok?" DH told me he was fine. I asked the CM if they had any bandages. "Yes. And, I've called Paramedics." the CM says. My first thought was Paramedics!! That seems kind of drastic for a cut. But, I didn't say anything. DH went to the restroom. He came back, and I said, "Let me see your arm again." DH held his arm up for me to inspect. His arm is swollen up hugely now and bleeding. "Are you sure your ok? Move your arm like this." I told him, moving my wrist in a circle. DH moved his wrist in a circle. "Does that hurt?" "No," he says "It feels kinda numb." "Hmmmmm...." I said even though I have no idea what numbness could indicate. The manager and two Disney security officers approached us. The manager told us that he heard that DH had a fall and he wants to be sure he's ok and "Does he need an ambulance?" An ambulance!!! Is there something about his arm that I don't see. It looks bad, but I didn't think an ambulance was necessary. I deferred to DH, "Do you think you need an ambulance?" I repeated softly? I'm starting to get kind of scared now. Is there something about his arm that they know that I don't know? Paramedics and an ambulance? The manager kept asking DH to please sit down and rest. OMG, is he ok? What's wrong? I kept asking to look at his arm which did look bad, but not 911 emergency bad. DH started going green. "Are you ok?" I kept prodding him. "Yes, I'm ok." he assured me "I'm really sorry this happened." "Sorry?!?! It wasn't your fault...just an accident. I just want to make sure you're ok." "But we missed dinner." DH frowned. Dinner? Oh yeah, I completely forgot about that. "Oh well, I said. We'll eat somewhere else." DH said he felt really hungry, so I promised we would go eat right after we were finished. The Paramedics arrived. DH is sitting on a bench in City Hall. They look at his arm and ask him to move it this way and that way. "Well, it's not broken" the Paramedics announced. Whew! The Paramedics said "We'll just clean it up and bandage it for you." "Why is it swollen up so badly?" I asked. By now, DH's arm is angry red and swollen to at least twice it's normal size. The Paramedic explained that there really isn't a lot of flesh protecting the underside of your arm, so if you fall on it or gash it deeply, it swells up a lot as a protective measure. "Oh, ok." I said, feeling satified with this explanation. The Disney secuirty people ask me to fill out some information (I guess an incident report). I was almost finished when the manager came over to me and said, "Ma'am, your husband wants you." I went back over to my husband. DH had gone from his normal color to yellowish gray. "I think I need to lay down. I don't feel good. I think I'm going to throw up." DH says. The Paramedic told us that DH was probably light headed b/c of the sight of his own blood which was my first thought too. The manager looks at DH and says "You don't look good. I want to take you to first aid." The manager leaves for a bit and comes back with a wheelchair. They helped DH into the wheelchair. As we rounded the corner from City Hall to Main Street, the castle came into view. DH smiled when he saw it. He looked up at me and mouthed "I'm sorry." My eyes started to well up. I felt so bad that he felt so sorry. It really was just an accident. The manager took us to first aid where they took his blood pressure. The nurse told us that DH's blood pressure was too low, and she needed to keep him for at least 30 min. She gave him a Poweraid and ushered him to bed to lay down. He sipped his Poweraid and rested. I kept looking at his arm. The blood had already soaked thru his bandages. The nurse came over and changed his bandage and gave me some extra bandages for that night. The manager was on the phone speaking quietly to people. The manager peeked around the corner, "I'm really sorry about this guys. We want everyone to have a great vacation, and yours just hasn't gotten off to a very good start." "Well, it's not your fault." I said, "Accidents happen." "Well, if you and Robert (that's my DH) feel up to it, I've rescheduled your dinner reservations for this evening for 8:30pm at Liberty Tree Tavern. And, we're going to pick up your bill for dinner. I've also gotten you VIP viewing for the parade tonight." He pulled out a map and showed us where to go. "How long are you staying for?" he asked. "We are only here for 3 nights." we replied. "Oh, he said. I was going to get you complimentary tickets for Tuesday's P&P party, but you won't be here." "No, but thanks anyways." We told him. "That is very nice of you." The manager told us that he hoped we had a nice stay and that he was going to leave us with the nurse who would contact him immediately if there were any changes or if Robert needed to go the UC or ER. We stayed in First Aid. The nurse returned in about 20 minutes and took DH's blodd pressure. "Much better," she stated confidently. "I'll let you go, but I would like for you to eat before you do anything else." "Yes, I said happily. Matt got us reservations for Liberty Tree Tavern, so we'll go there now." DH looked much better. The yummy food at Liberty Tree restored any color that he was still missing. And, of course, once DH saw the characters, he forgot all about his arm. Chip and Dale pointed at their own arms and pretended to kiss DH's arm to make it better. DH gave Minnie a kiss on the nose. I told him that he had better be careful not to make Mickey jealous and that he didn't want to make a cheater out of Minnie. Minnie pointed to her ring finger and made a gesture as if to say, "Where's my ring? I'm not married, so I can do what I want." DH and I got a good laugh at this. We had a great time. We missed the fireworks. And, the parade started 20 min early, so we missed all but the last float of the parade. But, we were still able to ride several rides (Splash Mtn and Big Thunder were shut down due to the lightening). We also enjoyed collecting the "treasure" at each of the stations and seeing the costumes of everyone that was dressed up. All in all, the night was still magical for us and we had a great time.

To be continued.....Day Two
