Ok, just got back from my trip out west to Disneyland. I was there Saturday-Monday, and I have a few thoughts as it compares to WDW.
I have been to WDW 3 times, as recently as 2018. My wife and I absolutely LOVE it and always talk about going back. We decided to make a trip to Disneyland this year for our first time to see what it was like. We were very excited but tried not to get too high of expectations because we loved WDW so much and there’s more to do in WDW with more parks.
Let me just say we were totally blown away and could not believe it but by the end of the trip, we decided we’d both prefer Disneyland over WDW for several reasons.
#1 reason was proximity. Although there are only 2 parks in California. The fact that you can walk to and from each one and Downtown Disney was such a huge bonus. It certainly beat at WDW where if you want to switch parks or go to the hotel, you could be looking at an hour or more at times to go from one place to another between bus availability, stopping at each hotel along the way, buses being on time, etc.
#2 Maxpass. Maxpass totally blows fast pass plus out of the water. We rode all the e ticket rides multiple times without issue because the availability of fast passes instead of having to book them 60 days out. We much prefer the Disneyland fast pass system after using both. It’s totally worth $15/day. I’d probably pay more honestly (and I’m sure it’ll be more expensive my next trip!). It was so worth it.
#3 the weather. A little chill in the morning, warm sun in afternoon then chill again at night is my ideal climate. In WDW you’re sweating from the time you wake up until you go to bed. Also in WDW i felt like I spent a lot of time searching for AC instead of enjoying attractions. Although we did have a few laughs at cast members wearing parkas and scarfs while us midwesterners had shorts and a light windbreaker on
Some other noteable highlights for me were the cast members. They seemed much more invested in the parks. I also was surprised how much I enjoyed Guardians of the galaxy. Never thought I’d prefer that over Hollywood tower of terror. I also felt like just about every duplicate ride except Splash was a better version than WDW’s. The food options seemed to be about equal, but not a knock on either park.
With all this said, I still love WDW and we will be going back soon. But I can definitely say I prefer that quality of Disneyland over WDW!
