Hiya folks - I have been a long time lurker and have finally decided to take the plunge and introduce myself.

Myself, DW and DD (she will be 6 whilst over there) are going on our first ever trip to WDW for 3 weeks from September 12th to October 3rd. We have taken the 21 day ultimate ticket and also the Universal 14 day Flexiticket.

We are going with Virgin holidays (booked with the Co-op travel) and we are staying onsite at Port Orleans Riverside Quarter - we also have the Disney Dining Plan.

I have made a few ADR's :-

1. Thurs Sep 13 - Tony's Town Square
2. Sat Sep 15 - Boatwrights
3. Mon Sep 17 - Sci-Fi Dine-In Theatre
4. Thurs Sep 20 - Chef Mickey's
5. Sun Sep 23 - Crystal Palace
6. Fri Sep 28 - Cinderella's Royal Table (Our daughters 6th birthday)

I realise that this is not many bookings but we want to play it by ear and book up a few days in advance for some the resturants when we get there and take a walk around seeing where and what we would like it eat. Also, we want to eat at some of the Universal Citywalk resturants (especially the NASCAR cafe for me as I am a huge fan :woohoo:)

DW is sorting out the pre-buying of clothes whilst I am making my best attempt at trying to sort out somekind of rough plan to our trip. Basically, with a 3 week trip in what from what I have read on many boards an historically quieter time of year at the parks, this should be ample to see everything and also to be able to take the parks at a leisurely pace.

Our DD will be celebrating her 6th birthday whilst she is over there but you would never tell to look at her - she is very tall for her age (takes after me I am afraid as I am 6ft 7") and she is already past the height restrictions for the rides :)

However, the hardest thing for myself and the wife has been keeping all this a secret from her. Like most little princesses, she is a huge Disney fan and has told us on many occassions that the Disney characters are real in a place called Disneyworld  and has asked if we could go there. I know it is evil but we have told her that it would take a long time for mommy and daddy to save to go there as Disneyworld is a long way away and we will take her eventually but it will take a long, long time. Truth is that we have been saving for years, and she doesn't realise that she will be spending part of her birthday with Cinderella.

We plan on telling her a couple of weeks before we go (probably about the time we would start organising a birthday party for her) and this will hopefully keep the sleepless nights in anticipation of my daughter down to a minimum - the same however cannot be said for myself and the wife :dance3:

Roll on September 12th - an uncomfortbale flight will be worth the 3 weeks of heaven that hopefully await :smickey:

Aww, Spoil sport. :lmao: Think of all the fun you and your DW could have on those sleepless, excitable nights! Think of the hours of mindless TV you are missing out on by getting lots of good nights' sleep.

Sounds like you have a great trip planned :goodvibes

Welcome to the DIS by the way :)

Welcome to the DIS, BoingBoingBaggie! What is your real name, by the way? I can't carry on calling you that! :rotfl:

As you've already worked out, you've chosen a fantastic time to go. It will be quiet and the weather should be good too. I think you are right not to make too many ADRs - you don't need to when it's quiet and it gives you much more flexibility. Make sure you don't miss the International Food and Wine Festival at Epcot.

I'm never convinced about keeping plans from the kids - the planning and anticipation is a big part of it, IMHO - but your story brought a little smile to my face for some reason. At 6, a couple of weeks beforehand should be enough for you to spend some magical planning moments.

Anyway, congratulations on taking the plunge, and do join in. :thumbsup2

Welcome.
Looks like you will be great on the boards if you can write that much on your first post.:lmao:
Our DS as always been able to get on whatever he wanted, only once I can remember, he wanted to do Kraken and was about an inch short. He has always been tall enough for everthing else. He is now 12 and same height as me 5'.10" and size 10 shoe like me(I now get to wear the latest fashion in footwear), where will he end up?
Enjoy your first of many trips to WDW:thumbsup2 .

Many thanks for the warm welcome :cool1:

Yes, for my sins I am an West Brom fan (and a happy one at the mo;) ) but dont hold that against me! :lmao:

I need to hopefully make one final phone call to the US soon to book a last couple of items, namely Planet Hollywood for an evening meal and also MNSSHP (see I am getting the lingo down to a tee:thumbsup2 ).

We are a bit unsure as whether or not to go to Cirque Du Soliel - neither myself or the boss, erm, I mean wife would count ourselves as circus fans and we have never felt the urge to take our daughter to one. However, reading reports and reviews it would appear that it is unlike any other circus and maybe worth a night out?? What are other peoples experiences with it?

Read this thread about Cirque, I am not fan but I am in the minority, Its something you have to do for yourself and try because the majority think its fantastic. We have just booked flights to Las Vegas/Cali in October so may take in another of their shows there.

You can book the MNSSHP tickets online if it's easier. I think this August is about our 15th WDW trip and never rung Disney once yet, do everything online or wait until we get there.

Hi, welcome to the Dis :thumbsup2

First off, congrats on the (hopefully) impending promotion! Seen the game on Sunday, was great viewing. Would like to see big Tony taking the Baggies up, he was a great player in his short time at Celtic (and a very decent manager when he was at Hibs - id take him at Celtic if Strachan ever leaves ;) ).

As you probably already know, this place is great for info and tips. My first time is going to be made so much better by finding this place. No fears of wandering around aimlessly not knowing what to do, and how to find it ;)

Just in case you missed it when you've looked in before, there is a local rate access number you can call to phone Disney (or anywhere in the US for that matter). Either 08448 610 610 or 0844 462 3232, then just type the number (incl. international dialling code) when prompted.

Good luck for Wednesday :thumbsup2

Even though you're going for 3 weeks, you'll find plenty to do without including Cirque in your plans. I enjoyed it, but I wasn't blown away and have never felt the urge to see it again.

your dd is a very lucky girl, her birthday will be fantastic :)

welcome to the disboards

It's great keeping a secret but hard work too. Sounds like a magical trip.

I am impressed with your grasp on the 'local' lingo!

Welcome to the boards :)

Welcome to Dis. What a fab pressie for your dd. She will just love it.

Hi and welcome, sounds to me that your a big man with a heart to match.
The princess will be on:cloud9:

Welcome to the Dis - from another fellow Baggies fan. Roll on tomorrow night so we can look forward to going to Wembley :woohoo: hopefully !!!!

Tell your DW that she only needs some shorts, vests/t-shirts and underwear (of course) plus comfy footwear. She can always buy it over there - it is so much cheaper.

I am sure that your little girl will have the time of her life. We took my niece when she was nearly 6 and she had a whale of a time. She can still remember stuff now from that first visit and she is nearly 14.

My Dad, niece and myself are planning to fly out (late deal permitting) on either 27 or 28 September so might see you there ????

Up the Baggies :woohoo: :cheer2: :woohoo:

Hi there and :welcome: To the Dis! :disrocks:

Sounds like you've "lurked" pretty well ;) Your ADR's sound great and your Dd will think all her Christmasses have come at once! Wish i could be a fly on the wall when you finally tell her :yay:

Don't be afraid to ask loads of questions :)

Welcome!!!! I was lurking for quite a while before I joined everyone, but they are a really friendly bunch with a wealth of knowledge!!!

In answer to your question about Cirque De Soleil - I know I am also in the minority but I just didn't get it!!! I wouldn't bother again and am not sure it is really aimed at young children - there is so much more to do there that I wouldn't waste my money - but that is just my (very humble) opinion!!

Whatever you decide you will have a fantastic time - I GUARANTEE IT!!!
