First time trip to the GF

I have just booked a trip for Dec. 29 through Jan 2 at the Grand Floridian. I supposedly have a room with a lagoon view. It will be me, my mom, and my three kids (8, 10, 12) I would appreciate any and all advice on the following topics:

1. What sort of special room requests would you recommend? What is the best view to request?

2. I have been to WDW once before but it was during the summer. What are some nice things to do that I may have to book in advance?

3. What are some of the special things that should not be missed around New Years? How is Pleasure Island on New Years?

My advise, read these boards often. You will in no time feel better informed. Examples of things to look for: fax request, magic kingdom views.. Ck out ofter forums also in regards to the parks and events happening during your stay and so on. Good luck!

The GF is gorgeous during the holidays! I'm sure you will enjoy it!

While requests aren't guaranteed, you may want to note a request for a Magic Kingdom view. It is a popular request but it never hurts to try. Other Lagoon View rooms may face the direction of the Polynesian resort or the monorail as it loops toward the Magic Kingdom.

Since you are traveling during a busy season, I'd recommend making some dining arrangements (called Priority Seatings) now. The Dining Board will be a great help in that arena.
