Woohoo! My family of 5 is going to Disney World for the first time. Can't wait! Any Suggestions?

I already am! :) I am driving my family nuts, because I keep talking about what to take and movies I want us to watch before we go! I keep trying to plan our days there, somewhat. Since it's our first time - we've done the Disney Cruise twice and absolutely loved it - we want this to be fun and not just walk around aimlessly! So I want to have a game plan! But I don't know how to plan the dinners and which parks to go to when. Also I don't know how long it takes to get to the Poly from Magic Kingdom or from anywhere!::MinnieMo

GREAT!!!!!!!!! Put together a basic plan of what do want to do on days of your visit like park you want to go that day, where you would like to eat that day and plan on having a magical time.:goodvibes :goodvibes :goodvibes :goodvibes :goodvibes :goodvibes :goodvibes

Any questions you have ask them here. People will tell you everything you want to know and lots of things you don't want to know. I hate to be a sales person, but you may want to try TourGuideMike. He is a DIS sponsor and he has some pretty good planning advice. I'm not sure what the price is, but people rave about him. It's less than $20 I think.

Have a great time. I just counted and The December trip is the 25th we've made since Dec 2001 -- almost 4 trips a year. I was down at the WTC with the US Army for a couple of months and after that I decided that life was too short and unexpected things happened all the time so it was a good idea to take LOTS of vacations. Have fun on yours. I hope WDW is as magical for you as it has been for us.

First of all, have fun planning! Don't get too crazy about every detail and remember to have a little flexibility in your plan. Start by looking at a map of Disney World. Search on the links listed on top of the forums page. DISboards has all the maps you'll need. After you get a feel for how big the place is, start reading all the great info you can gather. If you don't know were to stay, the Resort Forum and also the Resorts link on top of the page will give you descriptions and pictures. Set your budget and book a room!

I usually make an excel spreadsheet to use as a day by day organizer, but a piece of paper works well too!

Ask all the questions you have on the boards and someone will have your answer!

We're staying at the POLY and I have read that some people request specific longhouses. When I start to look that up, I get overwhelmed! Near the GC or better to be near the pool, or better to be near the TTC? Ahhhh! Then, how about dinner reservations? We have a DS 15, DD 12, DD8 and think we should see Cinderella's castle for dinner but is it worth it to see it inside? We have already met Cinderella on our 2 Disney Cruises. Then we thought about the Akershus also. But when, what days and what times are best? 4p.m. sounds great but isn't that during the parades? And do I want to have to be somewhere at a specific time? WE'RE ON VACATION! But then again, do we want fast food every meal? We did buy the Deluxe Dining Plan. Am I thinking too much? :scared:

1) Buy the Unofficial Guide to WDW (it's my fave)
2) send one person ahead to snag fastpasses for the group (big time saver)
3) Try not to back-track back & forth thru the park (I made that mistake 1st time)
4) Check the WDW calendar @ 6 months in advance to check hours & EMH
5) try to avoid the whole "autograph hunting" sigh....we wasted so much time standing in lines for characters autographs.
6) be flexible!, but plan plan plan!!

That's Very True - And Here I Planned On Bringing The Dd's Autograph Books! We Went On A Couple Disney Cruises And They Have Many Autographs Already, So I Don't Think I Will Plan On Standing In Many Lines. Maybe Just Use Them Mostly During Character Meals. I Wouldn't Want To Waste Prec Ious Ride Time!!! :) I Did Buy The Book And Love It! I Now Leave It In My Bathroom So That The Dh Will Read It!:rotfl2:
