First time staying onsite..pkg or resort/tix separate?

We usually stay at WDW and only do UO for the day..this time will be a few days stay onsite for 5 of us so we were thinking Cabana Bay (will be over Easter weekend). I know nothing about discounts or if its better to buy a pkg on universal website or get everything separate (we are Canadian if that makes a difference). Any info is appreciated!
