1) Onboard Credit is a credit that's applied to your onboard account. Everything you purchase while on the cruise (excursions/tastings/spa/nursery/gratuities/photos/drinks/popcorn/gift shop purchases) is charged via your KTTW card to your onboard account. The only OBC that has a limit it the $50 OBC that the Disney VISA gives for using it to pay for your cruise - that's only applicable to beverage purchases.

2) Category 5 & 6 are both verandah rooms. 5s will usually be on a higher deck than 6s. A, B, C, D roughly designates the actual location on the deck (A's are pretty much midship, with B, C & D progressively more forward or aft from there).

I believe the verandahs in Cat 6 (at least on the classic ships) have a white wall instead of plexiglass. If you are sitting down, you won't be able to see the ocean. You can do a google search for the photos.

Can you use OBC for future cruise holdings? I don't think you can, because otherwise they can't refund to the original payment method.

I'm not sure, but I think a future booking isn't put on your onboard account, it's a separate purchase.

This is accurate. You must pay for a future cruise deposit with a credit card or gift card, it cannot go on your onboard account.

6a and 6b on the Dream/Fantasy have a whitewall but it only comes up to about shin height and the rest is plexiglass. It does not restrict your view at all.

I am a first time DCL cruiser as well.....I was not able to pick a room -just a category. What does this mean?

Once a certain percentage of rooms within a specific category has been "sold" the category goes GTY (guarantee). That means you pay the same cost as if you select a specific room in that category, but you are only guaranteed that DCL will assign you to AT LEAST a room in your category or better. Room assignments for GTY bookings typically occurs in the 45-60 day window.
