Hello everyone,

I’m going to Orlando for the first time with my 4-year-old son, and we’re staying at the All Star Movies resort in May. I’d love to get some tips from locals or experienced travelers! We’ll be renting a car.

I’m particularly looking for recommendations on the best Dollar Tree and Walmart stores in the area for shopping. We’ll need some essentials for our stay, but I’m also hoping to find some small souvenirs and toys for my son to choose from. I want to make sure I’m going to the best locations for variety and good prices.

Any advice or tips would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

The Target (actually Target "lite") at Flamingo Crossings had a BUNCH of Disney souvenirs, tees, etc. last time we were there. You might also think about one of the Disney outlets if you want good prices on official Disney/Parks merchandise.

We shop at the Winn Dixie going out hotel row near DD on Apopka Vineland Road. They have lots of inexpensive souvenirs. Western Way out near AKV is the other end of 192. Every store imaginable is there but there are LONG lights, one after the other. Make sure you know which way to turn so you are not trying to cross traffic.

We quickly learned when traveling with a youngster (30+ years ago) to give our kiddo a cash budget. We explained what we would buy each trip (usually a t shirt and hat) which he could pick out himself. His cash budget was for anything else, well mostly.

He quickly learned to save any cash gifts he received through the year. It is a great way to establish good financial habits. Paying a nominal amount for household chores is another way to earn money. When he was 13 he saved to buy a pair of Oakley sunglasses at DD (he still has them)!

Enjoy!

Don’t go to the Walmart near your resort on old Wilson. It’s insane and there are lines for lines. The only Walmart that I’ve heard is somewhat sane is north of MK in Independence Pkwy. The best easy to get in and out store near the WDW complex if you want to have a quick trip is the new small target on ruby red pl kind of near Coronado.

We stay at AK and Epcot area resorts a bit and every time we try the stores south of WDW on that strip it’s not worth the traffic and crowds.

Hope it goes well and have fun.
