Hi, new to the forums (haven't even figured out how to get all those cool Disney graphics yet) and am quickly becoming an addict. I will be traveling to WDW 10/6 - 10/13. My first October trip to WDW.

I've mostly been on the Jambo board since we're staying at the AKL. Wendypooh sent me info about Fairy Godmailers. What a great idea!!! I love it! BUT....will people send a postcard to Brasil? It takes about 2 weeks for mail to get down there. I'd be willing to send the stamps ahead of time if necessary. I will be at MK Oct. 6 - 13th, so I will gladly return the favor. I'm planning (and mostly funding) this trip for my best friend and her 2 children who live in Brasil. Just to give you the scoop...She was an exchange student at my high school 26 years ago. I took her under my wing and we've remained best friends. She has been going through a REALLY hard time with her job and her marriage. A divorce is in the works. She's told me repeatedly how sad her children are, and that she feels so bad for them because of the divorce mess. Well, to me, there's only one solution to turn that saddness around and that's to visit the "Happiest Place on Earth". Using all my Disney VISA points, I'm planning the best vacation I can for my friend and her kids. She is a great person and her kids are so sweet. The kids have never been on a plane or been out of the country and this is the first Disney experience for all of them, so you can imagine why I want this trip to be so special. I'm sure this will be their only Disney trip while they are kids. (ages 7 and 9)

A couple of questions....
#1 - What's the weather like in early Oct.? Shorts, but a bit cooler at night? Common sense tells me to bring a jacket and jeans.
#2 - We have tickets for MNSSHP, and are thinking of eating at CRT for dinner, what would be a good time?
#3 - What's the best way to get a surprise gift package to the hotel before we arrive? Check in AKL is 3 PM, we're due to arrive before around 11 AM and plan to head right over to the MK....will they leave welcome packages at the front desk? I want to get the kids a PAL Mickey and want them to have it when we check in so they can take it to the park.

Any tips or info anyone can pass along would be greatly appreciated and if someone would be able to do the fairly godmailer thing for 2 adorable Brasilian kids, it would be great. Please PM me if you could do this. THANK YOU! (I'll also be going to Disney Feb. 8 - 12, '07 for the UCA National Cheerleading Championships so if I can be a Fairy Godmailer then, let me know!)

Thanks, everyone. This is the greatest forum.

I won't be at Disney until September 22nd, so that probably wouldn't be enough time to get a postcard to Brazil before your trip, but I wanted to tell you that I think you are doing a great thing, and I hope you have a great trip!!

What part of Brazil are they from? I know that a letter from KY to Sao Paulo (the state..well the city too) takes about a week. 5 days from Miami, FL. Although if they live in smaller areas or further south it may take longer.

THANKS, Donald is #1. Someone had already recommended Peggy's sweets, but I'm going to check out the other site you recommended. Looks like you'll be there for MNSSHP. Us, too. Hope we all have a great time!

SYRREAL, they ARE from Sao Paulo. I just said 2 weeks for mailing to be safe, because the mail system is somewhat unreliable down there. She and her family are originally from Santos, though.

Thanks, everyone!

The mail there has been getting progressively better. When I was younger, it used to take over 3 weeks to get a letter there. <note, I'm from there and have lots of family and friends there> Now, except if the mail is on strike <fun fun when that happens> it's more reliable. Especially in sao paulo and the surrounding areas.

Are you from Sao Paulo? We went to visit my friend in 1999. Nice city, BIG city! Lots to see and do. We also went to Santos and were lucky enough to go to Carnaval in Rio. WOW! It was crazy - lots of Gatons! LOL! Lots of caiprihinas. (wish we could get cachaca' in the US)

I was born in sao paulo but lived for a couple of years in a small city 1/2 an hour away. Then we moved to the US and I spent lots of time back and forth. :) I miss A LOT of the food from there. When I lived in Miami, I could get most of it from the brazilian stores and restaurants but not here in KY. I have to have my mom ship stuff. And I always bring some stuff back from vacations there. Wine, Pinga (cachaca), guarana, chocolate, pacoca....yum! :)
