Hi there! We have taken numerous trips to Disneyworld, but never to Disneyland. Our friends are going this summer and asking us to join them. We would love to go, but I am worried about the weather and the crowds. It would be mid-July. Is it as busy as WDW in the summer and is the heat as unbearable. We have been to WDW in early September, where it is unbelievably hot, but the lack of crowds make it great. Any thoughts? Should we save this trip for some time non-summer? Thanks so much.

As far as the weather goes, the main difference is at WDW you have all the humidity but here in California we rarely have it. :goodvibes Also, our nights cool down, sometimes as much as 30 degrees, or more, from the heat of the day.

As far as crowds go, yes DLR in the summer can be crowded, but MK can be too. I would say it would be about the same, or maybe a little less at DLR. Avoid the weekends. Get there early, leave during the most crowded and hot parts of the day, and go back in the evening for the cooler nights and fireworks. Pretty much the same game plan as WDW in the summer. But again, you won't have the oppressive heat/humidity that WDW has.

HTH.

(I love WDW and DLR in Sept. Low crowds, great weather. However the parks do close earlier)

It is easier to do summer trips to DLR than WDW for several reasons:

1. The weather is way more tolerable on average (see "Comparison of Weather For WDW and DLR" www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1711098)

2. If you are smart enough to get a nearby walking distance hotel it is easier to take mid-day breaks (and hence avoid heat and crowds)

3. The close hotels, parks and DTD, plus the higher concentration of rides, lets you experience more at DLR in fewer hours

Check out these links for more info:

When it crowded at DLR ou can easily walk over to DCA and check it out or DTD. It's so much easier to park hop at DLR.
There's also a sticky about the differences between the parks FYI
